They then decided to, as is natural for humans, to create borders around their land.
Then there were historical moments, in which wars were waged against and by them, and their borders grew and shrunk.
And now you get to this day, in which Mongolia exists as a country due to hundreds of years of history, fighting and preserving of the country's borders.
It still exists now because no other country has ever conquered or claimed it.
Same as every other country that exists in the world.

People, you need to understand that I formed an opinion on the country based on what I have learned about them. The purpose of the thread was not to say that the country shouldn't exist but to ask why it does. Notice the first sentence in the op.

also lord tony's comment is pretty true. they're not busy loving over their government/doing other crazy stuff so we don't hear about them. it's a good sign, really.
Also, "About 20% of the population live on less than US$1.25 per day." I think they'd benefit from living under a different government then they're own.

Why is Mongolia a country? You never see anything about them in the news, they don't seem to contribute anything to the world, and I remember reading somewhere that a bunch of them consider themselves to be Chinese or Russian.
It's a completely land locked country jammed between two major powers.
The territory should just be divided between Russia and CHina.
