I prefer to think of prayer as an open communication to God, asking for guidance, consolation, and help. Such as when a child speaks to their parent. The parent, of course, may have other things seemingly "better" to do, something else to be working on, though a parent that truly Loves their child listens. That's how I see God. In my personal opinion, God has the abilities to do what ever so he wishes upon man and the universe, however he doesn't. Even God holds himself to some standards. He can cease the evil, but without it, Earth would merely be a paradise, making it pointless to be here in the first place, though such rounds around to the meaning of life and all that fun stuff. Ultimately, I don't believe God ever promised eternal happiness on earth. I'm not sure who said it, or where I heard it, but it sums up an interesting thought: "God didn't promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, sun without rain, but He did promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears, and light for the way." Simply, God can solve all our problems for us, but then we'd gain nothing from it, and our existence would be pointless (Going by the theory it holds some deep meaning.) That isn't to say, though, he never intervenes.

Just a late night thought. :o

I haven't read the entire thread, but here is my advice:

If it ever comes up, tell them you are an Atheist. It's your beliefs, and its your business. Share when you want and keep to yourself when you want, just don't be rude about it. I'd advise telling your family because.....well, they are your family. :o Over all, believe what makes you happy. You cannot dwell in the shadows out of fear you haven't a bright light....or something. Just be happy, and make the best with what life hands you. And, if your rejected by friends and family, and forced into being a social outcast.......Errrrmmm....... .At least you'll have your health.

And you'll always have a friend here. Best wishes. <3

I hold the Christian foundation that God is an all-Loving, omnipotent being, thus I stray away from the whole "God only loves the people he doesn't hate" thing, that seems so common in religion today. :o
