The Glitch Detector


This is the Glitch Detector. This tool will alert you to the presence of Render by measuring "glitch energy". It will notify you if dangerous levels of energy are found.

The Glitch Gun
The Glitch Gun is a one-time use item that can be used to defend against Renderman. Upon use, the gun will explode, taking any nearby threats with it.

Glitch Shrines


The Glitch Shrine is a brick that you can place in your builds to passively repel Render. Glitch Shrines have the appearance of a Jack-o-lantern. You can make a shrine invisible by hitting it with a wrench and unchecking "Rendering".

You can turn a shrine off by hitting it with the wrench and unchecking "Raycasting" in the menu. You can also do this automatically with events.

Detector Bricks


These are special bricks that trigger onRelay when Render is nearby. You can use these to make automated alarm systems and other things for your builds. For advanced uses, the detection level of a brick can be changed using the "setRDetectorLevel" event.

Preferences
If you have Blockland Glass or another preference manager installed, you will be able to re-configure Renderman's behavior.
  • Mode - Changes Render's behavior. There are four modes to choose from.
  • Spawn Rate - Adjust this to change how often Render spawns. Setting this to 'Disabled' will turn Render spawning off.
  • Shrine Range - This changes the area of effect for Glitch Shrines. Set this to 'Disabled' to turn shrines off entirely.
  • Shrines admin only - When enabled, only shrines placed by administrators will work.
  • Minigame prefs admin only - When enabled, minigame events and Slayer configurations will only work for administrators.
  • Affect bricks and lights - Allows Render to flicker lights and place bricks.
  • Daytime spawning - With this enabled, Render will spawn in bright environments.
  • Disable ambient sounds - Checking this turns off ambient sound effects.
  • Disable lights - When checked, Render will not use lights.
  • Invincible - Turn this on to make Render invincible. When turned off, weapons can be used against Render.
  • Transform chance at spawn - The rate at which players will spawn as Render.

Slayer Support
This add-on supports Slayer mini-games. The following preferences can be changed in a Slayer mini-game under the Advanced settings:
  • Invincibility - Changes whether Render is invincible or not.
  • Mode - Changes Render's mode.
  • Player Transformation Rate - How often players will spawn as Render.
  • Points for Killing Render - How many points are awarded for defeating Render with a weapon.
  • Spawn Rate - Changes Render's spawn rate.
By default, these preferences are set to 'Use Server Preference', meaning that the server's configuration will apply as usual.

Events
You can change Render's behavior in a mini-game using events. The events only work if you are the mini-game owner and they ONLY affect the mini-game.
  • MiniGame -> setRenderInvincibility
  • MiniGame -> setRenderMode
  • MiniGame -> setRenderSpawnRate

Update 1.4 - Events and Interactivity

Events!
You can now configure Render's behavior using events! To use them, you need to create a minigame. They only work if you are the mini-game owner.

  • MiniGame -> setRenderInvincibility
  • MiniGame -> setRenderMode
  • MiniGame -> setRenderSpawnRate

The Detector Brick

Detector bricks are back! These work differently than they did in Support_Rendermen.

Other Changes
  • Added Haunt Mode, a mode where Render does not attack at all.
  • Fixed sound effects not playing in tag mode.
  • Fixed screen flickering when Render attacks an invincible player.
  • Shrines are now much less likely to cause performance issues when spammed. (Also applies to the new detector bricks)
  • Added Slayer pref: Points for killing Render

Update now available on Blockland Glass.

It's definitely on the to-do list. I plan to do a complete visual effects overhaul, and this will be addressed then.

No events yet, however this is a planned feature.
Events are planned to work for mini-games, like "onActivate -> minigame -> setRenderSpawnRate [high]"



Slayer update is out! Here's the changelog:

Not unreasonable at all, I agree that it gets more annoying than scary. I'm thinking about removing (or replacing) the freezing entirely.

Happy April 2nd! Here's what the updates were:

Self-Defense (Mystery Update A)
By popular request, you can now use weapons against Render! There is a preference to toggle this on or off.

Tag Mode (Mystery Update B)
This is a new mode that can be enabled under the preferences menu. In tag mode, it is safe to look at Render at any time. Don't let him catch you, though...

The preferences will update soon to show the proper names of these features.

Glitch guns are in!

Unfortunately, things didn't work out with the model. For now, they look the same as the ones in Support_Rendermen. If anyone is willing to contribute a model, it would be greatly appreciated.

This update also includes a fix for Render's spawning and movement AI. You should see more of the build navigation system in action.

EDIT: Update is now available on Blockland Glass.

Lots of great ideas, I'll definitely look into them. Good to see people enjoying the mod overall.

The Glitch Gun update is just about ready, but I haven't heard anything back about the model yet. I might end up releasing Glitch Guns without a model and adding one in a later update.

You're mistaking me. That occurred on your server. Renderman spawned only out of minigame, and even then he was completely harmless.
Oh, my bad. That's weird, I hosted the mod with a minigame before and didn't run into any problems. I also just checked on my server and everything's working fine.

Maybe it was just really bad luck with the spawns? Either way, I'll keep an eye out for these issues in case something happens. Thanks for letting me know.

Also, forgot to say but when I went to try out the server a few weeks ago... Renderman was completely harmless. Outside of minigame, I jetted around and, while he appeared nearby, did nothing but stand there until I turn around. Inside of minigame, he never appeared.
This sounds like fairly normal behavior, Render tends to do odd things like that. Maybe you had the spawn-rate set too low?

On the other hand, I have had some reports of weird minigame-related bugs, but I haven't been able to recreate any of them myself. Try testing it a little more, maybe raise spawnrate. If that doesn't work, you might have an add-on that is somehow conflicting with the mod.



The bot just spawns near you on the same level. It then strafes back and forth while moving towards you to overcome walls and corners. It also jumps or crouches every once and a while.
This is pretty much how it works, though it leaves out one thing. The mod actually uses a lightweight 'node generator' that runs every time Render spawns. This makes sure Render always spawns with a path to the player.

The node system also gives Render the ability to spawn around corners and ambush players. This worked great in testing, but in actual use it doesn't work as well as expected. Right now it's somewhat rare to see it in action, but Render can navigate builds.

There is still a lot of room for improvement in Render's AI (and yes, this will probably be good for Blockland bots overall). Once glitch guns are finished, I'll work on this system a bit.

Will they have custom models? Or will they just be recolored printers/guns?
I can't model, so for now it's planned to be a recolored printer like in Chrisbot's mod.

That said, if someone is willing to make a decent glitch gun model, I'll gladly include it.
