Games / Re: Team Fortress 2 Megatopic + Trade: RIP DEMOMAN
« on: September 17, 2014, 06:00:55 AM »
Or because people used it to look around a corner and blow them up that way. people abused the high five because of this. Kinda wish they nerfed sticky slinging again, just to REALLY balance out the demo.
Some sense.
Also, the demo is pretty much the only one who could damage things while taunting, every other class looks like a fool while taunting.
Taunting is supposed to put you in danger because you cannot do anything.

Just read that article on Notch leaving and the company being bought. Couple things I find odd about this.

1.'Notchgoesfullhipster.avi' I can understand wanting to make other games but he honestly admits to hating the massive fanbase mojang has and chose to instead use it to asist his other games chose the easy way out and resigned and cut it's ties by selling it to Microsoft.

2.'Mo money = Mo development' Odds are they will not accept new employees and will do what Chucklefish and Valve did. Take the money and promise new content/updates/new releases. These are examples of course other companies have improved but it seems like the later is less common.

I dunno. Maybe I'm crazy.
King of 6571 get
Point 1:
He stopped developing Minecraft quite some time ago, leaving Minecraft fully to others in the company.
But people didn't stop nagging him for everything that happened with Minecraft.
On top of that, everything he did got scoped out by game journalists, all of sudden every burp and fart was news apparently and he got sick of that as well.
Cut the guy some slack, i can understand that that gives quite some stress, pressure and overall an uncomfortable feeling.
I am not white knighting Notch or anything, i just sympathize him.
Point 2:
They do not state anywhere actually that this deal will improve development.
Hell, they aren't even sure about development for other projects (Scrolls) anymore.

What’s happening to the other Mojang projects, like Scrolls?
We don’t know yet. We’ll share any news as soon as we do.

If I ever accidentally make something that seems to gain traction, I’ll probably abandon it immediately.
That is the saddest thing i have heard in a while.
He gave up his dream.
Who can blame him, he got a lot of stuff thrown at him.

Off Topic / Re: new mouse
« on: September 15, 2014, 03:50:38 AM »
Seems like a pretty okay value for that mouse.
Though i cannot imagine that being comfortable for me, something about the shape...
Personally i am in love with this one:

Trust Maxtrack

DPI button for 2 DPI-settings, plug and play, accurate (BlueSpot technology) and comfortable.
Oh, also 2 buttons at the side (used by default for browsing, back and forward).
The dented side is perfect.
I trust Trust.
The only issue i might have is that it's color goes away after a while of usage.
Currently i have some 'bald' spots on my mouse on my left button and on the front where it touches the palm of my hand.

But for it's price, it was the best i could get in stores really.
When my other one died in a horrible accident (not really), i went to the store and eventually bought this one again, just because i was so happy with it.

I'm hoping (and I don't necessarily think this) that Support_Bike isn't client-sided.
No it isn't, though for some cool sidething, we will advise you to use heightcontrol (the only way we can detect if you crouch when mounted to a vehicle currently).
There will also be a server command to do this however, making it available for everyone, but just not as easy. :)
I will make sure you don't need to have Heightcontrol in order for the bikes to work, but it will help.

I am currently still in the process of rewriting Heightcontrol too, downloading the current available version (rtb archive/mirrors) will not help, the new version will not be backwards compatible.

Also, i don't get why a lot of people immediately fear that some support script i have written contains a client side.
Heightcontrol needed it because for some reason crouching in a vehicle doesn't seem to be detectable serversided.
But that doesn't mean everything needs a client side. :P
It is also the reason why i decided to make it an add-on on it's own.
It makes more sense to have an add-on that contains the client then to put the client in every add-on that uses it.
This way everyone who has at least Heightcontrol would be able to play with Heightcontrol using add-ons.

But don't worry, Heightcontrol will be improved soon, maybe removing the need for crouching in a helicopter, while making it easier for other add-ons to use the crouch function in some way in their vehicle.
I can already safely say, you do not need to spam the space bar anymore as a non-Heightcontrolclient player, it will work for every kind of vehicle (flyingwheeled, wheeled, armor) and helicopters will not be able to fly upsidedown-ish while using the jump key anymore, at least, i wouldn't advise flying upsidedown and doing that anymore. :)

861
Would it be possible to make a way to do wheelies like I dunno hold the c key?
We cannot detect if the player is pressing the c key.
But hey, who knows if there is another option...

862
Damn Filipe, what the forget are you on? You've been making this and that like if have a assembly line. Your fast.
Let's just say he's excited for this. :P

Modification Help / Re: How to bypass height control? [SOLVED]
« on: September 14, 2014, 10:11:15 AM »
I figured it out. In my script, I used WheeledVehicleData::onTrigger instead of Armor::onTrigger. Because height control uses FlyingVehicleData::onTrigger, there are no conflicts. Thanks for the help, everybody!
Sorry for the very late response, i should keep more tabs on the coding topics.
Yes, the old heightcontrol only really supported flying vehicle (datablocks).
I am sorry for the inconvience, this will get fixed with the new version of Heighcontrol.
I will PM you when i got more information so we can look into the compatibility. :)

If anyone has a European code, please give me one and i will thank you a lot. :D

i think there was an article saying that activision thought it made sense to make a PC version
They did say that it would make sense, but they haven't confirmed that they would do it, they would think about it.
So far, they haven't said that they would do it, they only showed interest.
So, yeah, chances are high, but so far, they haven't said anything but that they have interest in a PC version.

just make them blow up instantly on impact, usually that solves the problem with the crashing. and anyone stupid enough to ram them into bricks.
It doesn't solve it.
Even at very slow speeds, the server would crash most of the time.
I have seen/experienced it.

what
how does that have anything to do with anything
what are you even talking about
Blergh, not mistakes, but learn from what we do.
Some mods are developed by people with less knowledge of things then others, yes, but if they just give out their work to others after some small time period, they never really will learn the ropes themselves.
I tried to say that, is that better?

OK, give it to someone else to fix, and then let people enjoy it instead of just keeping it unfinished. Or finish it, and release it, instead of taking a loving month or even a year.
If we would give everything we work on to others because it takes us (too) long to fix it, would we ever learn from our mistakes?
I think not.
And most of the time, the creator of mods wants the mod to be like they had in mind.
When you just throw it out in the wild there are 3 things that could happen:
-1- Nothing, the mod dies, nobody picks it up and you forget about it.
-2- The mod gets picked up and is made exactly like the creator had it in mind.
-3- The mod gets picked up and transformed in something sub-par or completely different then the creator had in mind.
Guess which point is very unlikely to happen? Point 2.
That is because everyone thinks differently about how something should be and the creator wouldn't be happy in most cases with the result.

The thing is, you also can't just throw every unfinished thing out there to let other people finish it.
I rarely hear about a painter taking too long to paint something and some other painter replaces him to finish it.
I do hear about it sometimes with games, but guess what happens.
I understand that it is frustrating when some cool mod takes long to finish and sometimes even gets shown, but never gets finished, but you have to accept the creator's stance a bit as well.
He has (started) creating it, it is his creation and he can't always just let go of his creation to let others finish it.
It is a good and bad thing.
The good thing is, it could be a great reason for the developer to work on it, but on the other hand he can also just not feel like working on it, nor giving it out just yet in the mindset that he will work on it later.
Later gets even more later and even more later until at some point it gets forgotten by most people, sometimes including the developer.

You can't just force every developer to always put out whatever they are working on in whatever state.
You gotta think of them a bit as well, it is their project after all.
It would be the same if we just demanded of all the modelers to put out all the models they have created so others can 'finish' them.
It just doesn't work like that.
I agree that there should be a bit more sharing of content, but we cannot just demand every developer to surrender their creations to the public immediately.
Give them some time and room to develop the project and their own skills while they are at it.

That is also why we can't have nice things, no patience.
