Drama / Re: Blockland, and why we can't have nice things.
« on: September 02, 2014, 09:19:51 AM »
Typical answer. What if the owner cant be contacted or doesn't play bl anymore? It will die.
Main problem is, i have done almost nothing on it.
Hence my problem with giving it out, it is not mine at all, as much as i would like to release it.

Most of the things i have worked on are minor support scripts, anything big is set to release once it can be worked with.
I personally hate private add-ons, but as long as add-ons are still in the works, i cannot just put them out there.
I tend to release betas once i think things are working okay and i am taking too long, but that is not with all things.

I dunno if anyone mentioned anything of the Bug Mods, but let me just claim in advance, once it's done, you will get it.
We don't want you to have a half broken thing, you WILL get it and we are sorry it takes so long.

monster pack (by hydralisk)
FREAKING JURASSIC PARK PACK (also hydralisk)
Terran vehicle pack (again, hydralisk)
The thing (hydralisk AGAIN.
Hydralisk wasn't really too good on his projects.
He started them, but once things went downwards, he just stopped and most of the time, vanished.
I might still have a version of some of them, but they are probably outdated and i probably don't even have permission of him to release them anyway.
Not to mention they might not even work well at all.

Creativity / Re: The new and improved 3D model topic!

You guys are just throwing stuff back and forth.
This topic is supposed to show off models to the rest of the forums.
You guys should criticize more on the quality of the models then what the model is supposed to be.
Gun people are mad at vehicle people and vehicle people are mad at gun people, yes, both have thrown the same argument.
And to an extent, they both are not completely wrong, nor are they completely right.
But if both parties just accepted each other and stopped throwing the "generic" comment to each other's work, this could be a lot better for both parties.

I for one welcome any modeler and their models in add-ons whether it be guns, cars, player models or whatever.
Mostly because everyone puts at least his/her own style into it.
So even if there are already add-ons that are inspired on the same thing, they still differ in some way, model or handling.
I would love to see more originality in both vehicles and weapons, but i will not be angry if not everyone can think of something completely new and less inspired by other games/real life.
Why can't we all just accept each other and each others' choices. :C
Why would it be a problem what people make models of, we all do it because we like to make models of certain things.

Port, this is kind of a weird question, but why do you do

if (%ray)

instead of

if(%ray)

? Is it more proper or is it just a personal preference for you?
It is mostly a matter of preference, but it should be a bit easier to read that way.

Pixeldin?
Sounds like a 2D game to me at first glance.
Good luck anyway.

It's fairly simple to learn and is great to know if you plan on working in a programming field.
I am not sure about the simple to learn, it is mostly simple, but some things might be a bit complicated at first.
It takes some getting used to, but it is indeed useful for team works and for job opportunities.

Some early access games are highly questionable at their quality i am sure, but the thing is that people are willing to take that risk apparently.
Unless they couldn't read, early access clearly states:
Quote
Early Access Game
Get instant access and start playing; get involved with this game as it develops.
Note: This Early Access game may or may not change significantly over the course of development. If you are not excited to play this game in its current state, then you may want to wait until the game progresses further in development.
And then there is a button that says "learn more" which states a lot of things including:
"You should be aware that some teams will be unable to 'finish' their game."
They warn the consumer of the fact that the games can be unfinished at the time of purchase and might stay that way.
It shouldn't be a thing, i agree, i rather would like to see every game in a good playable state on Steam, but apparently people think otherwise and actually buy a lot of the early access games.
This can be reinforced by the fact that there are multiple games on the top seller list that are actually early access.
The consumer should be more careful before they purchase things.
It should be comparable to buying the game on DVD in a store, i can see your point, but on the same point, the consumer is getting warned of the risks and is apparently willign to take these.
Who is really at fault then?

According to outdated laws, Valve is.
Times change, laws are often a bit, if not very, outdated.
Some of the laws in countries cannot even handle online purchases because they didn't have that at the time of writing the laws about purchasing stuff.

I am not completely defending Valve however, but i think that if you cry about buying into an unfinished product even though you have been warned multiple times, you should be a bit ashamed of yourself.
Take the risk and face the possible consequences or just be patient and see if it gets released and if the reviews and such are good.
Same with prepurchasing, a lot of people are crying about their prepurchases being the mistakes of their lives.
I too have done some prepurchases of which i didn't like some, but that is the risk you take.
You are buying it before the reviews and such are even out of the game, so there is no way to guarentee if the game is any good.
You ought to think carefully before you buy a product.
That is how it works in this capitalist world we live in.

TL;DR
Do research before you buy a product or you might find out it is not worth it.
Do not believe every commercial or other way of promotion of the game by every word, sometimes they may mislead you, accidentally or on purpose.

Loved it.
you dont even know how tempted I am to replace my kritzkrieg activate sound with "JERMA THE CRITS"
I do not think my ears would be able to handle that.

It looks like a wizard inspired by Magicka.
Either way, it looks very nice.

I'd rather not have them try, even if it seems half assed.
Going like this might aggravate them more and they might try better next time.
I'd rather not have that.

But yeah, love this game.
So simple and mostly small scaled, but it just is fun to bash the skull in of these big monsters. :)
And of course, every armor set and weapon looks different, which makes it more interesting to progress.
