i literally have no idea who you are. your existence is far too insignificant to be of concern to me. you are nothing but a mere mortal and beings who have transcended to god status such as myself waste not the minuscule amount of cranial energy required to form opinions regarding such unworthy creatures such as yourself. you are fated to be forever banned from stepping foot inside my mind palace. make no attempt to appeal these rulings for i make not the rules which govern the ascended.

Off Topic / Re: Need advice on external data storage HDD/MICROSD
« on: July 28, 2018, 10:35:15 PM »
I once bought a terrabyte external HD which I used to store all my models and within a month it corrupted and I lost all my data
Were you ejecting it within your OS before physically unplugging it? Because if not then that might have been what did it in.

Does anyone have any advice on external storage? I'm ok with anything from moving parts HDs to micro sds as long as they're incredibly cheap (under 80 dollars) and are safe for storing data for up to 3-5 years without corruption or random damage from constant reading and writing. They also need to have 128gb or more of disk space
Portable flash memory devices (such as flash drives and SD cards) are not advisable for long-term data storage. An external hard disk like you had before would be your best option given your budget and usage requirements, but keep in mind that even hard disks aren't a very good long-term storage medium as they can lose data over time (IIRC it's recommended that you overwrite the data on a hard disk with a fresh copy of itself every 3 years or so to avoid data loss)

Off Topic / Re: Anyone else here buys vinyl records?
« on: July 19, 2018, 08:14:30 PM »
I got into vinyl in mid-2012; was using a really mediocre turntable from my parent's old stereo system at first but then upgraded to a Technics SL-D2 after a fairly short period of time. It's been ages since I've actually bought a record, though (I think the last one I bought was the pre-order for Tomorrow's Harvest by Boards of Canada back when that album was announced). I still keep the turntable around because I plan on picking up some house records I've been eyeing at some point in the future, and also because it'll come in handy if I ever see any records at a thrift store that might be worth sampling for my own music.

Mine's from this video. Had it since June of 2012, no idea why I decided to use it.

I used to browse /mu/ often from mid-2012 up until probably early-2015 (if you look through my old posts here you can see me greentexting the stuff out of these forums back in 2012 because I was an autist and the novelty of meme arrows had yet to wear off). In 2016 I was browsing /pol/ fairly heavily because of all the U.S. election stuffposting but got bored of that once the election was actually over. 4chan was better in 2012/2013 tbh, sort of kicking myself that I didn't start browsing /mu/ earlier so I could have experienced it more before the site's overall community metamorphosed into its current state.

« on: July 13, 2018, 06:02:47 PM »
My sidebar is like 25% weeaboo stuff, 25% tech videos, and 50% house tracks circa the mid/late-90s and early-2000s at all times. Apparently it's a miracle I've been spared from youtube's cancer.

damn this stuff goes hard af son. Also, how's that dr-202 in the background working out for you? The second drum machine I bought was that same model but its sort of fallen by the wayside ever since one of the prongs from its stuffty aftermarket power adapter got ripped out and lodged in a power strip socket.
everyone needs to listen to this
thanks i almost missed it

Finally figured out how to get clean sidechain ducking out of my compressor without actually compressing the input signal at all. am daft punk now.

(you better believe im making all the no-hardware brothers jealous of my ability to create horribly mediocre and outdated-sounding house music with a bunch of equipment that can easily be emulated and operated more conveniently with free software)

Off Topic / Re: [Tech Nerds] DisplayPort 1.2 passive adaptors
« on: June 23, 2018, 11:31:27 AM »
Erm okay on the DP to the HDMI but I have a passive DVI-VGA adaptor that works
if DVI is digital and VGA brown townog, how does it work?
DVI isn't strictly digital; it is (or at least was) fairly common to see GPUs feature at least one DVI-I port, which supports both digital and brown townog signal output. DVI-D is the DVI type that only supports digital signals. More about the two DVI types here if you're interested.

Man, seeing this chart reminded me why I wound up leaving for so long at the end of 2013: that big drop in activity from the end of 2012 to about mid-2013 really affected my enjoyment of this forum, eventually it just felt so boring here that I wound up not even bothering to visit.

Kind of sad to see a visual representation of a community's slow death like that, especially when its one of a dying breed like an owner-hosted php forum in an age where online communities are now primarily based on massive social media platforms like facebook and reddit which thrive off the exploitation of user data unbeknownst to (most of) the users themselves.
