A poem I wrote in Math class today.
The soldier walked through the gates and to God's golden throne,
He walked up, waiting for judgment, standing all alone.
God looked the soldier over, whom he then asked thus,
"What gives you right to walk on my streets, and answer me you must."
The soldier waited for a second, and he thought his answer through,
"I had once seen exotic lands," he said, "and sailed the ocean blue.
My rifle was my partner, and with it I have killed,
Men with families, men with friends, men whose body's stilled."
"I had my squad, I had my friends, I had a sweetheart at home,
All were lost once I died, once my heart had been blown.
I beg of you for a chance, a chance to make things right,
I may have sinned, I may have lied, but I always prayed at night."
"All I wish is to see all my friends who have fallen,
And my parents, all those lost, I can hear them callin'."
The throne was silent, until the words from God's mouth fell,
"Walk freely upon heaven's streets, you have served your time in Hell."
