A gentle tapping emitted from the hallway, at first he thought it was his imagination and he returned to sobbing into his beer-stained shirt, but a louder tapping -
a knocking sound instead followed. Eric sighed and sat still for a moment, he didn't particularly feel in the mood for using his legs, all he wanted was to return to staring up at the ceiling thinking about the deep pit of depression that was now his life. The knocking returned, this time louder and quicker; Eric sighed yet again while dragging his heavy legs onto the floor. He made it to the hallway without letting out another tear, this was actually an accomplishment for him. He hesitated at opening the door, he knew that it was probably just the mailman but for some reason he felt anxious at what was on the other side of the door. At this point he expected another knock but nothing followed, he rubbed at his red eyes, making up an excuse in his head for why he was crying to whoever was outside. He swiftly pulled the door open, and his heart sunk into his chest. He face was in the expression of shock. "Ep...eph...?" he tried to speak but he could feel the ache in his throat controlling his speech. "Ephialtes...?" The boy on the other side of the door gave a slight smile back at him. "You look hungover" he finally spoke. Eric gave yet another sigh and retracted his foot back into the house. "I...I thought y- you were gone?" he softly spoke. Ephialtes took a moment to reply and what looked like a tear ran down his face. "So did I." They both stared at each other for what seemed like an eternity, Eric's face turned blank, by this time most of his tears had dried up. "Um...I- d- do you want to come in?" The boy gave a quick smile again and replied, "Yeah...sure."
The next minute felt awkward to the both, no communication was made between them. Eric guided Ephialtes into the kitchen, hoping for him not to see the mess that was the rest of his house. "Do you want a drink?" he said without stuttering. "Nah, I um...I can't be here too long, I have to be at the airport in a couple of hours." Eric felt the ache in his throat return, this time worse. "So you are going?" he questioned with a tint of anger. Ephialtes didn't take long to reply, "Yeah I..." he was interrupted by his friend's angry frown back at him. "...do you think I want to go? To leave you and-" Eric instantly cut him off, "Don't you dare say her name, you left me! You left both OF US!" Awkward silence followed, tears rolled down both their faces while the frown left Eric's. "Sh- she is just a child..." he said. Ephialtes took yet another long while to reply. "She is almost ten years old, she has been around for quite a long time" he finally replied. Badspot was quick to change the subject, "so when is your flight?" Ephialtes was quick to reply. "Um, it's...four hours" he didn't bother to finish speaking. They both looked away from each other for a moment, that is when Badspot felt a sudden urge to make a move. Ephialtes was confused as to what he was doing at first, but when Eric's lips touched his, he realized. He pulled away, "I...um..." he said startled, "I better go..." Yet another tear rolled down Eric's face, he was quick to make another move. He grabbed the boy by the arm. Ephialtes turned around and Eric saw his face go red. This time Ephialtes made the move, he quickly pushed his face up against Eric's. They began to make out heavily, pulling at each other, knocking over kitchen appliances. Up the stairs they moved, up and up.
"Eric...?" he heard. At first he thought he was dreaming, but he heard his name again along with the morning birds tweeting. "Yeah?" he replied with a short lived smile. "Well...I've missed my flight." they both giggled. The bed sheets were all over the place, most of it on the floor. Ephialtes turned from smiling to looking sad again. He tried to let some words out, none of which Badspot understood until he repeated. "I'm..." he began "I'm sorry I left." A fresh tear fell from his eyes. "I'm sorry too." Eric replied.
