Off Topic / Black Mirror Season 3
« on: October 22, 2016, 01:59:50 AM »

Black Mirror is a dystopian sci-fi psychological horror TV show which is now a Netflix Exclusive. It's very good, and considered a spiritual successor to 'The Twilight Zone'.

So I really loved Black Mirror Seasons 1 and 2. I think White Christmas is just about the greatest TV episode in history. Just layers upon layers that come together in the most horrifying conclusion I've ever seen.

Season 3 is out on Netflix now. It's gonna be 12 episodes. I just got done with the second episode and I feel really destroyed. It was an incredible work of horror incorporating both terror and jump-scares with subtle mental horror. Definitely the 'scariest' episode.

If anyone wants a movie that is very similar in tone, I heartily recommend 'Ex Machina' which I thought was fantastic.

Off Topic / Ghostbusters was a good movie
« on: August 03, 2016, 10:11:30 AM »
So my mom bought tickets to see it last Friday. I would never have gone on my own and when she mentioned it I was thinking "oh god, it's gonna be horrible."

I'm very critical of movies, and even I think it was good. I'd give it a 6.5/10. It wasn't hilarious by any means, and maybe a third or more of the jokes were so dumb they fell flat, but as a whole it was mildly funny and definitely entertaining as an action movie. 6.5 would be about average for an AAA film imo.

It didn't feel feminist at all, and the female cast felt very natural. However, none of them were funny. Melissa McCarthy is like, the opposite of funny. She makes things less amusing (Except for the movie Spy. It looked terrible but I actually thought it was great.) All of the good humor was situational. There were some really cringy scenes where a certain character would start dancing and lipsyncing.

The one joke I found actually hilarious was when they started to read Youtube comments on a ghost video and the top comment is something like "I DONT WANT NO BITCHES CATCHING MY GHOSTS" clearly mocking some of the loveist comments on the trailers.

So yea, not a great movie by any means, and not hilarious, just a whole lot better than I expected. Tell me if you've seen it, BLF.

Having little to no experience creating a MegaThread, I had to dig a little deeper into the sand to complete this. Considering the fact that AtlasBlue's and Swat 3's MegaThread went dead almost 2 years ago, I wanted to continue that MegaThread, with newer information and make it more fluid. Since his logo on his MegaThread looked incredible, I decided to borrow that logo for the time being.

What is No Man's Sky?

No Man's Sky is an upcoming game made by Hello Games--consisting of a final team with 13 members on the game--which started development in 2011. Arriving to Playstation on August 9th (US)/August 10th (EU) and Steam on August 12th worldwide. No Man's Sky is set in a UNIVERSE of limitless procedurally generated worlds. Every planet is different, filled with either no life, simple life, or complex life itself. Each planet is one biome (varied greatly) each, making exploring other planets viable. You take on a "humanoid" exploring the universe. The core objective of this game is to get to the center of galaxies and then the universe. However, you don't have to get to the center of the universe to enjoy the game. Fight, trade, explore, salvage, or destroy; the choice is yours in No Man's Sky. Survival is a core aspect of No Man's Sky--even though you won't need to eat food--in the dangerous worlds you travel on.

Survival? What about it?

Survival in No Man's Sky is one of the key aspects to completing the main goal. Whether you're in the outer rim of a galaxy or nearing the center of the universe, surviving and breathing is vastly important. The dire consequences of dying is not so punishing, but it does fiddle with your overall goal. Getting to the universe, you're going to need a hyperdrive, however, if you don't have one, consider your chances on making it slim.

IF YOU DIE ON FOOT = You will lose any discoveries not saved and you will respawn to your last saved game in a base on the planet.

IF YOU DIE IN ORBIT = You will lose any discoveries not saved and you will respawn on the surface of the planet you were in with a crashed ship that you need to repair.

IF YOU DIE IN SPACE = You will lose any discoveries not saved and you will lose your entire ship. If your ship was higher-tiered with a hyperdrive, you will lose that too. Your ship will be replaced with a basic ship and you will respawn to the nearest base in space.

Hostile enemies are present in No Man's Sky. Though, not all creatures are hostile. Every single creature is generated randomly. Their calls/voices are procedurally generated, too! The devs used a special program to generate a sound for the wildlife, based on their neck's shape and length, each creature is different, vocally AND physically! The ones you will encounter when you do some bad stuff are The Sentinels. Sentinels are robot-like creatures that are basically "The Guardians of the Galaxy" (no reference intended). Think of the Sentinels as "the law". As shown in videos, it seems like breaking into bases, killing livestock, and other creatures will activate these Sentinels. The best choice it seems to be is to RUN. Once you see a Sentinel attack you, it's best to get off the planet ASAP. Sentinels all over the planet will hunt you down and they come in all sizes. It's best to evade them than to fight them. Weather plays an important role in No Man's Sky. Cold weather, hot weather, radiation, and toxic levels will kill you if not taken with caution. Acid rain, extreme blizzards, and more can happen and it can be deadly.

Confirmed Game Mechanics

Trading - Collect various resources from planets and trade with alien NPCs! The Galactic Trade Market varies based on what system you are in and what alien NPCs you speak to!

Scanning - Scan animals and locations to add them to your discoveries! You can also scan systems to see if they have been discovered by other players! Be warned; anything discovered not saved when you die or quit the game are lost!

Warping and Ship Boosting - If you got a hyperdrive, you can warp to a planet in close proximity! However, use it wisely as getting it fueled up is tough business! Don't have a hyperdrive yet? No worries. Use PULSE ENERGY to boost your way crazily fast through the universe! You can also do regular boosting if you don't have fuel...

Upgrades - Collect items (resources, elements, etc) and use them to upgrade your suit, weapons, and ship!

Crafting - Collect elements and use them to craft materials for your weapons, suit, and ship! It's not robust, but it's something to take notice to!

Battles - Itching for something to pull your trigger at? No worries. You can shoot anything that moves. Death to all! Though, you might need a little help to do so! Pirates will attack you in space based on your cargo, huge battles are present throughout the universe, and you're in the middle of it![/center]

Weather - From deadly storms to radiation and toxic levels, these are the many dangers that await you.

Multiplayer - You can find other players...well...your chance of finding others is less than 1%. Seeing other players seem to not work when the servers are full! Though, you can see what other players have found!

Companions - Make friends throughout the universe to help you look for items, have them protect you, or just have them aid you in your overall travels!

and a lot more will be added such as Base Building and owning Cargo Freighters! The first update adds a lot of stuff!

Mutiplayer? Where is it?

After Hello Games managed to bypass No Man's Sky by Sony's Playstation Plus subscription service, you probably have been wondering if the game is truly multiplayer. That answer is YES, the game does INDEED support multiplayer! Well sort of...unfortunately. It is definitely possible to encounter other players in the universe. However, considering the fact that the sheer size of this game is, that's unlikely! You can encounter other players playing the game, but it's less than 1% you will likely so! Don't get so down! You will be able to see other planets that other players have discovered and named. However, considering the fact that there is a whopping 18 QUINTILLION REAL-LIFE SIZED PLANETS , that is also unlikely. Fortunately, the developers have confirmed that you will be able to see your friends on the star map, but they might be pretty...far...away. The developers want this game toe feel like you're in a huge universe by "yourself" as in, an actual player. It's extremely tough to know if you encountered a player since they are not marked. So, yes, it's multiplayer, but not really. Two streamers attempted to meet up with each other in the same system and has come to conclude no multiplayer is in the game! Therefore, the only multiplayer features in No Man's Sky is the ability to upload your discoveries and see who discovered a system/planet. Perhaps, multiplayer will be added after Sean talked about probably adding in requested features? Sean has commented on the issue, saying that the servers were overloaded, perhaps we will see another time again?

Drama / Maxx: A Case Study on BLF's Worst User
« on: July 04, 2016, 05:45:18 AM »
This is the story of my struggle against a user who has harassed me for the last 11 months.

I'd like to compare Maxx to Riddler. But even Riddler cared about Germany.

You sure are taking a load of time to make that thread.
Mind getting it over with?

My prominent issue with this user began exactly 11 months and 0 days ago, when joe411 began the first BLF Movie Night thread. However, the true rabbit hole that is Maxx's psyche goes far deeper than this.

hes a gay dumb furry and he should probably stahp existing

First, I'd like to establish a few facts about him, and why they embody what I have deemed the 5 Factors of Maxx. Unintelligence, Depravity, Cruelty, Bigotry, and Untrustworthiness, or "BU-CUD!", all from my personal experiences with him.

Now that we've established his character for the uninitiated, we may feast upon the true meat in this drama.

i hate furries and have for years, while that sounds edgy i just do not like them and i wouldn't do any activities related to them whatsoever

A user named "Maxx" and later "Maxxi" began spamming Joe411's original Cytube Movie Night, making the chat unusable until he was widely blocked--which is when he would come back on another IP. I can't promise this user is Maxx, because the room no longer exists and I can't get the IP logs. However, it seems extremely likely--it's very in character for him, and I don't know why he would try to anonymize himself at first.

Well, this continued into the new room, in the same style with the same emotes. You might say "A little spam isn't that bad, right?" but it can shut down the entire focus of the Movie Night, as I explain here:

It's really upsetting for someone like Maxx to ruin something that had to be planned, prepared, and with dozens of people getting organized together to do. Just because someone wants to shut down our fun.

The whole point of BLF Movie Night is that the chat comments on a movie in a funny way, like MST3K. Some of the emotes are really big, and that's part of the joke. Like one takes up the entire bottom part of the page, saying "FIGHT!" with a mortal combat image. Unfortunately if you want to write that, it's just :fight:, so you can write it dozens and dozens of times before you get cut off. There isn't much of a spam filter, because that could cut off the flow of the humor, and also we have organized spam-moments (like RIP when a major character dies).

So if I don't pay perfect attention, some handicap comes in there and writes :fight: 50 times per line, and then spams that line once every few seconds. Since it already takes up a ton of the page, it'll explode and make the entire chat unusable, effectively killing the entire point of the social gathering. Shutting down everyone's fun.

It ruins the night for everyone if unchecked, and as a result I must act as (or recruit) a hyper-vigilant moderator when I'd rather be watching the movie. The names soon changed to other things, like "CC" or "PROMLGHACKS", and since Maxx appears to have a dyamic-IP router, it would seem impossible to tell which are him and which aren't. Cytube will show you the first half of a user's IP, but that is all I will need to identify Maxx. He doesn't appear to be very active in-game, so it's hard to pin down when exactly he joins the room, but I did manage on one occasion.

Sadly, I cleared the ban list just 4 or 5 months ago. Since we only host 1 or maybe 2 shows a month, someone's been arriving at almost all of them. Most recently, on 5/17, we had an apocalypse night. The spammer joined once again, under the name "CC", and a censored IP of 73.74----. I assumed it was Maxx. When I called him out for this, and he denied having any part, I asked if Swollow could do me a favor and use his IP database to identify Maxx's IP on the days he spammed. Swollow didn't have a lot of IPs on Maxx, but one did match perfectly. On 5/18, he hosted under the IP 73.74.SNIP. I've manually censored his information, obviously, to be polite. This IP is a perfect match for CC's second ban, shown above, when he attempted to spam during Apocalypse Night. Now, since it was partially obscured, that does mean it could be bad luck, and the first 4 characters are the same. However, that seems extremely unlikely, especially since he spammed 11 months ago and has been drama'd multiple times for spamming ingame and on the forums. Also, if IPs are random (Which I don't know if they are) it would be a 1 in 10,000 chance coincidence. So buy a lottery ticket, Maxx.

Because either you've been full of stuff all this year, or you've won the stuff powerball.

once again i accidentally turn the topic on myself for expressing my own opinions.
whatever then.

Swollow will confirm the above correlation, as I don't have access to the database to screenshot. You might argue that this is just evidence of one spam-attempt, however we can reasonably deduce that this CC was the same CC banned on at least 2 other occasions, which brings it to 3. We can also assume CC is short for CaptchaCatcher, who spammed on at least 2 occasions. This moves it to at least 5 spam attempts in the last 6 months. I can't link the other user, promlghax, with any IP evidence, but it seems very likely it is him as well. This would move it to 7 attempts in the last few months if true, but we'll just stay with 5-7 because I might be wrong on this last part.

Captcha Catcher is apparently a user who left more than 6 months ago, but I have a sneaking suspicion Max is impersonating him. Why? CC has never posted in a BLF Movie Night Topic, and Maxx's spamming raids began in the old room before CC was even registered, and a user by his name has continued to spam us until this day, far after he left. It would be REALLY weird if he came back to the forums, just to spam my Cytube room. If anyone knows CC and could testify to his behavior, that'd be great. If he could post and either admit to spamming or deny it completely that might also be relevant.

loving finally that hes banned
hes annoying with his homophobic stuff

Maxx has also been known to spam and cause trouble in the Blockland Discord group, which I believe Clownfish will be willing to attest to. Discord has an extremely similar format, and it only continues to example his behavior.

The following users should be able to vouch for my claims here:
Conan ~ (Cytube Moderator, Witness)
Swollow ~ (IP collector)
Clownfish ~ (Discord Moderator)
And countless witnesses from the Cytube and Discord rooms.

I hate Maxx with a passion, and for good reason. However, this drama wasn't made purely to berate him, or start a witchhunt. It was made for an even more selfish reason--my own satisfaction. I didn't plan on making it until last night, when Maxx adamantly denied anything to do with the Cytube spam. When I told him I had evidence, he denied it further. So I put this together to show him that I know it's him, and now so does everyone else. It's almost like we're gonna have to take some responsibility for our actions one day.

I don't expect this to change anything, so let's not act like it will. It just felt so good to type this all out.

A little less than 4 years ago I got VAC banned from Chivalry: Medieval Warfare because I had Cheat Engine running in the background. Didn't affect the game, I don't even think it can affect a multiplayer server. If you're wondering why I had it, I use it to speed up travel time in games by binding the numpad to various speeds.

Anyway, it sucked at the time but since it's only for Chivalry I don't really care. But what bothers me is this gaping "VAC BANNED 1000 DAYS AGO" sticker on my profile, almost like being on a love offender registry. I think it makes people think less of me, and since I have thousands of dollars of games that I can't move on this account and I've never been banned for anything else, that really bothers me. I'm wondering if there's any way to get that removed, or if Support will just send me that same automated message "WE CANNOT LIFT VAC BANS" (which is a lie because they do, frequently).

Thanks in advance!

Edit: Welp, thanks for all your help guys. It looks like Steam won't just remove the sticker as I'd like them to, but they could unban me and have done so to other users in my scenario. Sadly they probably won't read the message or check the logs and will most likely send me that automated message (which isn't true at all lol).

Off Topic / How Long Can Zealot Stay Awake? [POSTPONED]
« on: June 30, 2016, 07:01:39 AM »
Hey forums. I'm gonna do a little experiment soon to try and stay awake for as long as possible. I don't want to drunkenly stumble into the nearby pond or anything so I'm probably not gonna go as long as I humanly could. My main goal is 48 hours.

Not starting now. I've been awake for a very long time, and I plan to get a great deal of sleep before I begin the challenge. I'll be posting on the forums every hour or two so you guys know exactly when I've crashed.

I'm probably gonna start in a few days. Or maybe Friday night? Who knows?

Anyway, I want suggestions for how to stay awake as long as possible. I'm down to buy stuff, if you have suggestions.

Off Topic / Will Zealot ever get Windows 10?
« on: June 26, 2016, 06:20:11 PM »
Okay, I literally worked on this PC from 8 PM Thursday til 6 PM Friday with a brief nap this morning. It took that long to get internet access, mostly because everything I did resulted in Windows Explorer and thus Control Panel crashing. I still have a MULTITUDE of other problems but at least I'm not bluescreening. My main hope right now is that since I've restored the Internet, just updating Windows to the latest edition of Win10 will solve most of them.

TLDR; Win10 is so incompatible it's hilarious MS recommends upgrading in the first plce

Having trouble installing my Realtek HD Audio Drivers. This message pops up and when I click "Install Anyway" it pops back up immediately. I tried a lot of things:

-- Turning Off Windows Security Alerts
-- Disabling Windows Security through the Services Menu
-- Killing the process through Task manager

And now I'm at a total loss. If anyone has any suggestions, that'd be really great.

edit: I GOT IT!

windows 10 is awesome. but it breaks my pc aaa
gonna try the upgrade now anyways. its been a few months

what could go wrong.

the first time i tried windows 10, my cpu fan went out. probably unrelated. the install never finished and i stayed on win7.

the second time i tried windows 10, my pc crashed immediately when I logged in. I used a system restore point I'd made that morning to fix my PC.

the third time i tried upgrading ot windows 10, last night, my pc had a multitude of problems. the internet didn't work, windows explorer crashed constantly, the control panel crashed my computer, and a lot more issues ensued. when I tried to restore windows 7, win10 commited a murder-Self Delete and bluescreened halfway through the restore proccess, leaving me with a broken operating system.

He did it again folks!

So I prepared to do a fresh update of Win10, as some users suggested. It actually caught me by surprise and randomly began shutting down while I was composing a BLF post (you may have seen it).

Fresh install. Still broke my PC.

I called my PC manufacturer and asked them whats up, and after a 40 minute or so investigation figured out that my motherboard was incompatible with Windows 10 because ASUS never got around to updating their drivers. Now I'm back on a fresh install of Win7.

I'm going PC shopping because I really haven't learned my lesson and still want Win10. Gonna replace a lot of things, (motherboard, ram, graphics card to name a few) and will probably break my PC a few more times in my efforts.

well, now I'm on a fresh install of windows 7. i'm gonna try to upgrade to win10 yet again because I haven't learned my lesson.

any suggestions for software or anything for the new pc?
