this is not nearly as bad as my experience with wildlife. like a year ago i had been taking out the trash when some wasps were building a nest on our front porch, and as i came back they swarmed down and chased me inside the house. i slammed the door but a few of them got in. so i have this irrational fear of wasps and i was terrified. i literally boarded myself in my room unsure what to do.

so i would occasionally peak out and see like 2-3 wasps buzzing around the living room. i eventually ran out to get all my animals (the cats were chasing then and i didnt want them to get hurt). i thought about spraying anti-wasp stuff everywhere but i didnt want to poison my animals who will eat anything. i opened up the windows (it was the back of the house so i doubt more  would come in) and they all left, or at least i assumed. i was watching tv a few hours later, assuming they had all left when OH GOD WHAT ITS ALIVE. it flew out from the corner or wherever and started buzzing around. my cat jumped on that bitch and ripped him open. unfortunately pumpkin got stung in the paw and we ended up having to take him to the vet cause his foot got massively swollen. he was a hero.

Okay, last post for now cause I gotta go.

You aren't winning any favors by insulting kids lmao
I think Sir Dooble nailed this:
I think Maxx has less of a defense by using the age card than anyone else his age because, despite being young, he's been on this forum for a few years now. And he's pretty consistently gotten himself involved in drama and made a fool of himself.

He's had all the time in the world to catch on and learn how to behave here, but he hasn't. And being young doesn't make you an idiot incapable of learning, it just means you have less experience. And Maxx has had plenty of experience on the forums.

Well, as I've said before, you'll almost never change hearts and mind through internet arguments. It's clear we've both got our beliefs, and both are valid in some ways. I'm not gonna tell you meat is unhealthy, because I don't think it. I personally swapped entirely for moral reasons.

Anyway, I'd just like to point out how much more substantive the last few pages have been. The topic quality improved tenfold once Maxx left. I'm probably gonna go unless someone says something super pertinent.

i think the point where it starts being serious is where you actually begin to take on discussion. if you had said at the time "yeah dw guys it was a joke no worries" this might have turned out differently, though it doesn't seem like you intended the initial comment to be a complete joke
I'm pretty sure those people wrote out their thoughts expecting a response. While my original post was a joke, the core belief itself was not, and that was what was being questioned.

No, the reason why people react poorly to vegans is because the vast majority of open and/or well-known vegans tend to be bratty, unempathetic, too open (this one's for you, Planr), or just plain creepy (he keeps doing these "jokes").
This is absolutely not true. Those people are starfishs who happen to be Vegan. I've never even met a Vegan who actually acted like that.

Fun fact, Peter Dinklage is a vegan. He's said this great quote.

Most vegans are like Peter Dinklage. You don't know about them because they don't accost people on the streets about their beliefs. There will always be starfishs who do things like that, whether it's Veganism or Star Wars.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say that it's cause he has absolutely no loving clue what he's talking about and his 'lifestyle' is about as impulsive as 99% of his posts.
You have no basis for this. I've had more than 12 years to think out my Veganism. This is like telling an Auto-Mechanic he doesn't know what he's talking about when it comes to cars. He's been fixing them for 12 years.

Furthermore, unless you couple the change in diet with proper activity, you will inevitably gain weight. It just comes with inactivity.
You'll want exercise under any diet.

2645
You're going back and forth between claiming that veganism is undeniably more healthy than non-veganism (99% of the time!), and then that any diet can be bad based on individual characteristics. The two arguments are mutually exclusive.
Yea dude, 99% of the time Veganism is the option for better weightloss. However, it's possible to go from a healthy diet of beef and eggs to a horrible diet of french fries and potato chips. However, that's not very common. This is an extremely simple concept.

guess it depends a lot on the person, but i would generally associate it with cheeky nonsense. and as always, language is highly dependent on context
there's a time and place for everything, and i think it just wasn't really relevant in this topic, especially when it's being argued from a moral standpoint. people probably don't feel great about the idea of having to feel bad for eating food they've been eating their entire life without stigma; it's not a very compelling argument and it'll almost certainly only provoke people regardless of the situation
In hindsight, you're exactly right. But nobody sits there and deeply thinks out everything they say, and as such there's no way to know which are gonna randomly set off the BLF hate-squad. It seems a lot more reasonable to just expect everyone not to overreact and understand that jokes are not serious.

2646
which is a sign that it shouldn't be posted at all

So is bulimia
I've always addressed this exact point. Any diet can be handled horribly.

2647
Actually if someone went into a topic about windows 10 getting a virus and said "More reason to switch to OSX ;)" people would have acted exactly the same as they did in this topic.
It's possible, but I doubt it would happen with NEARLY the same level of vitriol and reliability.

Hey big guy, you know what I did to lose 40 pounds in 6 months? I stopped drinking soda, ate healthier and went outside more. I didn't drop any meat.

I know you're saying going vegan will make you lose weight but it's not a good option to lose weight
Hey, do whatever you want to lose weight. I'm not gonna tell anyone who doesn't want to stop eating meat to stop eating meat, but Veganism is an undeniably effective method of weightloss.

This is what's formerly known as "testing the waters". How could you take it any way than how I originally interpreted in my head?!?

The only insecure person here is you, and by jove are you.
What the hell? No, I posted that a lot of people are insecure about their eating habits, and that is why they react poorly to Vegans. Then you somehow thought I was trying to subliminally call you fat or some BS like that, so I called you paranoid. Chill out, nobody cares how much you weigh.

the smiley face is definitely a major part of the reason why it set people off. it makes it less viable to interpret as a joke and a lot more viable to interpret as a snarky,
Maybe you're right, but I've always seen a winky-face as a sign that someone is being playful.

"guess your just not good enough to join" "guess your just not good enough ;)"

One of these is a lot more richardish.

it really had nothing to do with the idea of veganism and everything to do with the way that idea was presented in this specific situation
Except nearly every time someone mentions they are vegan or vegetarian, no matter who or where it is, this will happen.

2648
veganism, socialism, christianity, etc are all very personal things, involving personal beliefs and lifestyle choices and aren't things you should push onto other people unless they've asked to debate it
which operating system or console you use isn't personal
I think you nailed it, actually.

6'2" and 174lbs. You're an idiot
What the hell? I'm not calling you fat dude, chill out.

2649
That wasn't a fat joke. You're paranoid.

I'm the president of a highly successful Satanist Club at my highschool.

I guess I should clarify that both are things I don't recall Planr doing. Maybe he has done them, but if he has, I would call him out on it equally.
pretty sure citing something as a "reason to become vegetarian" is classified as trying to convince people to become vegetarian
Users write stuff like "another reason to switch to pc/mac/linux/xbox/ps" all the time. Nobody cares then, but god forbid a vegan post.

It's because nobody is insecure about their console, but loads of people are insecure about their diets. I don't know why.

2652
I modified my post before you replied, and you completely ignored the bulk of what I was saying. "Another reason to become a vegetarian ;)" is smug, and there's no way you can deny that. It's also blatantly trying to convert people, and there's no way you can deny that. Both of those things are things Planr doesn't do.
It's not trying to convert people, it was one of 30+ posts that day quickly written in jest. I don't have to sit here and defend a snarky comment like it's my mission statement or something.

2653
I rarely see Planr post about religion, and when he does, he does it politely. Not "another reason to become a christian ;)." He actually discusses it, not try to loving convert us.
Planr brings up religion far more than I bring up my diet. Nobody would've cared if I had written something like that that was equally dismissive. "Another reason hot dogs are gross ;)" wouldn't have gotten nearly the same response.

I just want to say I've lost weight eating an omnivorous diet with plenty of meat used for protein.
You can lose weight on any diet, Veganism is just one of the very best. A lot (probably most) long term vegans are in it for moral reasons though.

2654
You can dodge the point all you want, but the reality is that almost everyone who goes vegan will lose weight.

This is common knowledge, but here are some sources anyway:

Yes, that's fine, except it's not remotely relevant in this thread. You didn't need to post. You didn't need to let us know that this wouldn't affect you if you're vegetarian. And you KNEW it was going to provoke a response.

There's a difference between politely asking at a restaurant "what are your vegan options?" and barging into this thread smugly going "another reason to go vegetarian ;)" I don't care if you're vegetarian or vegan, and I won't judge you, but that's the entire point - I don't care if you're vegetarian or vegan, and you shouldn't judge the vast majority of people because they eat meat.
Veganism is not something that has to be hidden, dude. If someone wants to talk about their diet, don't lose your stuff. Half or more of every post on this entire forum are unrelated to the OP, but nobody cares. They lose their stuff when someone mentions their vegan or vegetarian because some people get insecure around someone with a different diet. I barely EVER mentioned I'm a vegan, I've done it in maybe 3-4 topics in my history here, and every time people have gone nuts. So "Don't worry, they'll tell you" is really pretty inaccurate. "They told me once, a few months ago, about a major part of their life," is.

Religion is a major part of Planr's life. People shouldn't go nuts when he brings it up in topics, but so often they do.

2655
"How do you know if someone is vegan? They'll loving tell you"
Yea, just like a Buddhist will probably mention it when they can't eat cow. Of course someone is going to talk about a major part of their life. Especially because this usually comes up over dinner, when I have to tell someone that I can't eat certain foods.

Also, unless you consult a dietician and/or know what you're doing, suddenly becoming vegan would be incredibly unhealthy, considering you're literally denying yourself about half of the food pyramid
Most people start by cutting their meat intake, then going to vegetarianism, then cutting dairy intake, then going to veganism. I don't know anyone who's ever just decided to cold-turkey never eat animals again from a normal diet.
