this is such good bait it's such a shame this forum is too dead for it to launch a classic 50+ page no holds barred free for all flamewar like message boards used to get on a regular basis back in the good old days
A damn shame what we lost, by page 30 the original argument would be completely incomprehensible, the quotes would be running wild, someone would post a 5000 word megablock of text thinking they just won the thread and then get immediately filtered, eventually someone would get banned for flaming and the next 15 posts would be reaction gifs. Better times.

As many have said before, marketing the game to children in the combination of not having moderation features was a mistake. If it were moderated to the extent that it was but was marketed to young adults, you would still see the usual Drama topics about the individual problem users, but I find it neither likely that issues of this kind would become endemic, nor metastasize into this kind of topic.
I think Blockland would've been impossible to market only to young adults. Legos have been able to transcend past kids toy and you can buy a lego model of the Guggenheim now, but I feel like even only 15 years ago that wasn't the case, Legos were strictly a kids thing, and Blockland was not Lego-adjacent like Minecraft, it's straight up a digital lego sandbox. I can't even imagine what sort of media and advertisements you could push that would keep kids away within the Blockland framework. He needed more moderation.

wasn't it the lack of content updates, not the community, that killed blockland? I guarantee if badspot released a major update right now blockland would get a huge surge of players like what we saw in 2012.
I doubt this, i mean 2012 was 11 years ago man, that was even before blockland was on steam. If blockland got a "major" update, it would be a curio for the remaining orbiters for like a week, but there's not going to be any growth, the engine's too old, the playerbase is too dwindled.

just finally bought a charger for my SP and the thing still works like new - It got me missing the days of having discrete devices for different things - an ipod, a gameboy, a phone. obviously a smartphone is more efficient and it's nice to have more pocket space, but I think there's something totalizing about a smartphone that sucks some of the charm from it.

I think we could all do with a sobering look back on our time here on blockland, less so to be personally punitive but moreso to try to glean what scars this place may have left on us. But I'm sorry, whatever you've been accused of, you were a minor, and pragmatically, you have to let yourself off the hook a bit the way we let minors off the hook and send them to juvie instead of Folsom. I don't think it's fair to yourself to even try to make a moral equivalency there, especially in regards to bisjac.

This is a great point you bring up, and really puts me in the same camp as the countless child enthusiasts that were exposed here and on Brickadia. Moralizing about me being "creepy" for reposting pictures you felt like uploading to this site as a child with no regard to future use holds no weight compared to you willingly uploading them to a forum with a massive child enthusiast problem.
I'm not even going to bother reposting a picture of you because I already envision the ugly freak every time I have to read one of your posts. Have you ever tried ancestory.com? I'm interested in seeing the results.
This post is so vintage, it's cute, I haven't seen arguing like this since before the irony poisoning began.

If you have the choice to make something more beautiful or less, it takes a broken mind to choose less.
agreed, this is why The Thing is a bad movie, because all the actors are shlubby regular looking guys, they had the option to cast beautiful hunks but John Carpenter's mind is broken.

Idunno if people abandoning Christianity en masse is such a good thing though. the church is generally a rotten institution, but it's also one of the last non-market social forces that had any impact on regular peoples lives, a spiritual, non capitalist sphere that provided stability and social cohesion. All shared social spaces are being destroyed to further atomize the working class, and then these institutions are being rebuilt in the workplace. Sure, it's comforting to know that bigoted hate merchants are slowly dying out, but they're being usurped by neoliberalism, which is just as insidious.

one of the problems with the popular atheism that erupted in the 2,000s, aside from giving birth to the most annoying dudes ever, is that it had no moral valence aside from "religion bad", it had nowhere to go - hell that's why so many dudes who were obsessively anti-church have become insane right-wing reactionaries only a decade later.

Evangelicals and the church might be dying, but it's not being replaced by anything good in it's stead

If you think we're all losers here then what's your point, that Badspots a bigger loser?
yeah

At least he has a dog in the fight, it's his website and forum. What's your excuse?
i didn't write 3,000 characters of dumb stuff. actually maybe i have in the process of arguing lol

My take on badspots post: Absolute failure to understand capitalism. The entire post is you whining about titties and getting nowhere with it since there isn't a drip of critical thinking in there. You ask a bunch of "questions" and get nowhere with it. Throw in that random ass "Burger King Kids Klub" and it really almost feels like I'm back in 2009...Camel screaming loveism and racism just makes this stuff worse. I think it's much more productive to figure out what exactly Badspot is crying about and dissect it rather than using a surface level "Toss him in the bin" argument.
i disagree, i think badspot clearly understands capitalism's effect on video games, and then he comes to a stupid conclusion. his whole post is laden with attacks on morally onerous devs, that's the "they" in the whole article. a misunderstanding of capitalism is like when dumbasses buy products and the film themselves destroying them to pwn the company. I'm sure he's aware of the massive rise in female gamers, and the general demographic shift on the internet in general - and he doesn't like it. That's also why it reads like a post from 2009, cus that was when his brain crystallized and he stopped forming opinions. idunno what's to brown townyze besides that, he just spewed out his entire pathology, i don't need to look at a turd through a jeweler's loupe to know it's stuff.
