I think you're pretty cool but sometimes get overdefensive about your brother.
I was not defending anybody; I was just arguing that most forum users are way different in real-life than they are on a lego-building game.
Don't forget that this is the only time I ever defended Pacnet.

I so am not
I meant that you were new to the forums, not the game.

They won't.
I'm terminating this droplet and creating a new one from a snapshot to force an IP switch.
So I guess a "droplet" is a server system (VPS/dedi). I just thought they were giving you an ultimatum to either stop the attackers or be terminated, based on the title "provide us with a resolution".

0.93gbps

Alright alright, fine, I won't host anymore. You win.
So they will terminate your VPS? Why do the DDoS'ers always win??

You're new.

786
You too, huh?
I don't know for sure that this is really a DoS, but I would say a 80% chance.
Yes, I'm probably a much bigger target than you. But Verizon will never terminate the service, that's my only advantage.

787
service down again
I know, I get e-mail alerts.
The three downtimes today and the two downtimes yesterday seem to be strategically planned. They appear to happen whenever a lot of players are playing. More evidence this is a DoS.

have you ever been hit by a loving ddos? forget off if you haven't - here's why
so you're playing along, right? playing your game on your server and stuff, or maybe trying to run a loving business
say, what's going on? you're lagging? everyone on the server is lagging? wtf?
you check your network monitor, and guess what, it's a loving ddos. your isp calls up, and is like "lol ddos forget u null route" and you're forgeted without internet for like 12 hours

god damn, what could you have done to prevent this?
nothing. there's nothing you could've done, there's nothing that would've forewarned you - you're just that attacker's bitch for however long he pays the bill.
period

let that sink into your head - you cannot use your internet for the duration of the attack, which ends WHEN SOMEONE STOPS DECIDING TO BE A richard

PERIOD

you can't loving block it at all. if it's a local computer, maybe you tell it to drop connections from the ddosing computers, but if it's a remote computer, you can't do anything - you can't control your own loving computer

let me summarize - you are blindsided by a sudden attack that you cannot see coming or prevent, which COMPLETELY SHUTS YOU DOWN for an INDEFINITE period of time until the guy attacking you stops paying the bill.

And it is completely unfair how we spend days or weeks constructing programs and services, and all a nasty attacker needs to do is rent a cheap botnet and destroy our hard work.

Last night I was actually ddossed, pacha spent the night at my house and then my network slowed down dramatically and crashed. Nowhere near as bad as what OP was hit with.
I checked my router and it was from two ip addresses. One from Arizona and the other from California iirc
Good lord, you don't even run a hosting service or Blockland-related web site! These hackers are attacking everything they see nowadays.

What also isn't cool is this:

If you can't sympathise for Pacnet then think about his mom.

Why are you bringing drama which has no relationship to the hosting service into this topic??

oh my god
Okay okay fine, I have now decided not to waste my time with HTTPS and WSS.

792
100% no point doing it if it's not verified by a CA.
The connection is still encrypted, isn't it?

793
What for?
I want to learn how to do it; I'm bored right now.
I'll also try to implement secure Web sockets later.

You seem shy to spend money, you know you can't implement SSL properly without paying for a certificate?

I don't mind if the web browser shows a red "https://" crossed out.

794
The HammerHost web site is currently not working, since I am trying to implement SSL.
