Does the ISP not have an SLA on a business connection? I would not be paying my bill if I were you.
I've looked low and high for an SLA, but I could not find one. Instead, I found this...

Quote
IN ADDITION, VERIZON DOES NOT GUARANTEE THAT SERVICE CAN BE PROVISIONED TO YOUR LOCATION, OR THAT PROVISIONING WILL OCCUR ACCORDING TO A SPECIFIED SCHEDULE. THE PROVISIONING AND PERFORMANCE (SPEED) OF THE SERVICE IS SUBJECT TO CIRCUIT OR OTHER NETWORK FACILITY AVAILABILITY AND OTHER FACTORS, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION, LOOP LENGTH, THE CONDITION OF YOUR TELEPHONE LINE AND WIRING INSIDE YOUR LOCATION, AND COMPUTER/DEVICE CONFIGURATION AND CAPABILITIES AND NETWORK/INTERNET CONGESTION, AMONG OTHER FACTORS. IN THE EVENT YOUR LINE IS NOT PROVISIONED FOR ANY REASON, NEITHER YOU NOR VERIZON SHALL HAVE ANY DUTIES OR OBLIGATIONS UNDER THIS AGREEMENT (OTHER THAN YOUR OBLIGATION TO RETURN ANY VERIZON-PROVIDED EQUIPMENT). VERIZON DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE OR EQUIPMENT PROVIDED BY VERIZON WILL MEET YOUR NEEDS, PERFORM AT A PARTICULAR SPEED, BANDWIDTH OR DATA THROUGHPUT RATE, OR WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE, OR FREE OF VIRUSES, WORMS, DISABLING CODE OR CONDITIONS, OR THE LIKE.
...here. Which basically disclaims their responsibility for being reliable.

I'm quite confused; I used their residential FiOS for 2 years and uptime has been at least 99.9%. They even exceed their advertised speeds consistently by at least 15%. But since the last 8 days they decided to take a dump on the connection.

Drama / Re: Is Pacnet doing this stuff to anyone else?

Pacnet actually is pretty intelligent in real life; he's just upset at Blockland.

You simply cannot compare a desktop to a server. Stop comparing a desktop to a server!
I was not really comparing the two types of systems; I was saying that the reduced reliability of a desktop computer is NOT the reason for my recent downtimes.

It is also important to make sure no dust gets in, or at least clean it regularly.
Yes, I clean my computers of dust at least once every two months.

Does the ISP not have an SLA on a business connection?
I am trying to find that right now, but I heard they do not have an SLA on residential FiOS.

815
Umm, you clearly have no knowledge in this field.
I have built my own computer one year ago and modified and upgraded another one recently.

You have had problems with overheating before, this is because the processor you are using is simply not fit for this purpose.
It was because the fan failed, not the CPU! It runs below 40° C on a 24/7 basis. Anything above 60° C is not good.

You should make the add-on download the .gft fonts and put them in the correct directory by default.

817
What ISP are you using?
Verizon FiOS.

Also, I'd like to note that while you can explain that the unreliability is not your fault, what do you think the average user will think? The service is down, it must be the service's fault.
I'm mainly doing this to throw some water on the flamers and prove that the downtimes are not due to experience or knowledge at all. Apparently everybody believes that I am a noob who has no clue how to run a hosting service, just because of network failures.

If my systems had 100% uptime, I could run it just as well as CBMhost.

818
It's true, though. Nobody in their right mind would try to run a hosting service when the server is down every other day.
How the hell am I supposed to know when the ISP will crap on the connection? They have provided 100% uptime for the last 2 years and all of a sudden they start failing. It's the largest ISP in the United States also. This is business-class service; I expect it to have at least 99.5% uptime.

819
What an utter mess this is. Extremely unprofessional and run by a moron who doesn't know what the forget he's doing.
You sound like Furdle.
And there you go again, confusing network unreliability as proof of my low knowledge. I have run 1 hosting service before this and managed another before that.

820
hammerhost related stuff seems to be down?
We are in the midst of another network outage.

Anyway, for $41, you can get a reliable VPS with guarenteed 6 cores at 3.2GHz, 16GB Ram, 800GB disk space on a 100Mbit/s line with windows server 2008 on.
Is this a Contabo VPS XL?
If so, I considered this plan for many weeks. But I have had bad experiences with Contabo in the past; their CPU is not good enough. HamHost used a Contabo VPS L in it's first month, and Blockland servers were lagging because the single-core power was not enough.

That's server class hardware. Desktop class hardware is not designed to be run constantly, hence why it keeps failing on you.
This is not usually true. You are confusing network downtimes and mechanical problems with hardware. I have once run the AMD FX-6300 at 4.3 GHz (25% overclock) for about 35 days in a row, and nothing happened. As long as the temperatures and voltage are not too high, desktop hardware is not much less reliable than server hardware.

Drama / Re: Furdle, seriously?

Nobody has mentioned it yet in this topic, so:

Guessing your mom gave you that black eye because you wouldn't stop being a moron?

I find it funny how all the stuffty servers went down with the service.

Finally, Furdle gets what he deserved!

you're such a bitch to that old VPS, not cool bro
The current system has 2.1x the single-core power and at least 4 times as much total power as the old VPS. And it now has 12 GB RAM instead of 4. Plus unmetered bandwidth.

The old VPS cost $40/month while home-hosting costs < $55/month. It's an extremely good deal, although it may take 2 weeks for HammerHost to "stabilize" and the outages to go away.
