The cause of the downtime was not a DoS, but a problem where the ISP had to temporarily null-route a block of IP addresses. That is now over with, and the hosting service is back online!

No, the downtime appears to have stopped since 2:30 AM EST today.
We'll see if it happens again.

You are being a massive handicap. A big hardware-based firewall with specialized firewall software is needed to stop a packet flood DDoS attack. A.K.A. hundreds of dollars a month.

I don't even know if these are DoS attacks in the first place. Right now, it looks like some kind of network configuration issue.

Looks like there has been another outage. Great.
If this keeps happening, I may have to shut down the hosting service temporarily for 2-3 days.

I think mine needs to be re-activated, I keep getting that the auth failed, so I have no use of commands in the remote client.

No, it's because the network failed earlier. Try restarting first.

a few were complaining of lag then half the server left, and people were also complaining about lag in Zix's,

If there was lag yet the players were able to send chat messages about lag, it looks like the attacker only has 100 Mbps of bandwidth and may be trying to spread out his attack.
But I can tell you right now that at least 55 Mbps is targeted towards HammerHost.
