I remember this game from a very long time ago. It really dispels the expectation of freedom after running away. It really is a sort of wake-up call.

Play it. It's a really dark game, and it takes a while to complete. Share what happened to you and how you died or whatever.

Quote from: Wikipedia article, "The Hunter (video game)"
The Hunter is a free to play PC game that recreates hunting wild animals in as realistic a manner as possible. The initial setting is on an open world island based on various locations, including the islands and surroundings of Washington State in the USA. The free game features one huntable animal type (Mule Deer), and subscribers can unlock other animals, along with a variety of guns, bows and lures with which to hunt them. More animals are planned for future game versions.
To play the player must first create a character on the game's website www.thehunter.com, which includes social networking tools and messaging capabilities to allow players to connect and share in-game experiences. Creating a character requires selecting an avatar from pool of thousands of unique faces, and adding a name. Once a character is created and the tutorial completed, the player can receive missions - initially from 'Colton Locke', a character in the game. Completing missions unlocks further missions, and introduces the player to other characters that inhabit the game world.
Players must use natural cover to avoid detection by the animals in the game. Mule Deer may be hunted for free, and Whitetail, Blacktail, Roosevelt elk, Turkey, Coyote, Feral hog, Pheasant, Black bear, Moose, European wild boar, Roe deer, Red deer and Brown bear can be hunted by subscribers. Each animal species reacts to different stimuli in different ways. Scent detection for the quadrupeds is their keenest sense, which means the player has to be aware of wind direction or the animal might smell the player's scent and run off. Players must also pay careful attention to the soundscape, listening for subtle signals that indicate the presence of animals in the locality.
The core gameplay revolves around tracking and harvesting (killing) animals with the weapons provided, although a digital camera is also provided for those who do not wish to shoot with a gun. Animal tracks can be found and identified with the optional "Huntermate" an in-game GPS-like device that identifies tracks, scat, blood trails, and animal calls and grunts. At August 2009, over 200 animals appear on the island when a game starts, located with an element of randomization.

Off Topic / I can't load Imgur's website or any images.
« on: April 13, 2013, 10:07:51 AM »
Since Wednesday, I haven't been able to load imgur. This is a link to imgur. You are likely able to click it, and so am I. My problem is that when I click on any link from imgur or attempt to type in the URL and load it, it'll just endlessly load. It won't even leave the website I was on beforehand. In the bottom left hand corner of my Chrome window, it'll just claim it is 'Waiting for imgur.com.'

I'm not sure what could be causing this, but I could really use some help. It's a bit annoying when I'm attempting to look at a picture and I can't.

I kind of laughed.

I found it on the subreddit earlier and thought I should share it.

Off Topic / My Predicament with AT&T or: My Search for a New ISP
« on: February 26, 2013, 06:37:05 PM »
To start off, the following internet service providers or plans are not available in my area. I live in Southern Florida in a metropolitan area somewhere near Fort Lauderdale and Miami.

- Cox Communications
- Verizon Internet/FiOS
- AT&T UVerse

Comcast may not be a viable option due to spotty coverage in our immediate area. I am begging you to please help me fix or find me new internet. For the love of God, help me.

As I type this, my internet has likely gone out about 5 to 10 times. To most, this wouldn't be common. It may not be your fault, but rather, the ISP's problem.

Well, it is the ISP's problem. And for some reason, they refuse to fix it.

I have had BellSouth Internet ever since my family moved to our current house in 2002. Back then, coverage was superb. I would estimate that before the buyout, we had a 10Mb/s connection, which is certainly better than what we have now. A couple years back, Southern Bell Communications (BellSouth's parent company) was bought out by AT&T and all accounts were transferred to AT&T's database. This wasn't a problem until about a year ago.

I play a metric ton of games, and I usually spend about 6 to 10+ hours on my computer doing homework or playing games a week. A majority are multiplayer selections and because of the strain on our bandwidth I usually refrain from playing them except for on weekends, after 7 o'clock, or after my mom has stopped working on her laptop. Like I said, I never really had problems. Back in 2009, we had to downgrade to a slower internet plan due to the economic downturn. Our family is well off, but we switched just to be safe. I was fine with my 256 kb/s connection and rarely complained, only sometimes wishing I could have maybe 1MB/s to be able to download Steam games at an increased rate.

As time went on, we were generating much more income and were able to switch back to a normal plan if we wanted to, but ignored the opportunity. I continued playing games as normal, and my mom, dad, and I were perfectly fine with what we had at the time. Around July of last year, I asked my mom to switch us back to the 1MB/s to 2MB/s internet plan and she consented. Within a month we had called AT&T and settled the upgrade with the provider. They gave us an estimate of around August 17, about two weeks, to have the bandwidth and connection settled.

Two weeks passed. No difference in our internet speed resulted. I performed a benchmark by attempting to download GTA IV, a download I had estimated to take around 5 hours, a whole 8 hours shorter than my usual download time of 13 hours.

It took 16 hours.

I was visibly pissed. Of course I expect ISPs to be shady, but to forget up and tell us we're getting a connection we're paying an extra 25 dollars for when we obviously aren't is bullstuff. Of course, my mom called and asked about a connection status and the customer service woman claimed that she had done a speed test and that our down and up speeds were what we asked for and to have a nice day. I guess my mom thought it had sufficed, as she had hung up soon after talking with the representative.

I never got that connection, even from the office where the router is based. I still don't have it, a whole 7 to 8 months later. Here's where the stuff starts.

By November, I've forgotten and just continued using my computer without problems. Occasionally the router would have to be restarted every couple weeks or so, but I was fine with that. As long as I could do homework, watch YouTube, and play games I was happy.

I had considered moving to a back room in the house to use as my new bedroom so I could have some more space and a lot more natural light. The room would put me a ways from the router (we use a wireless connection, the house was never wired with ethernet and we never had the desire to have the house wired), but I decided I would just wait a while and see how it played out. By my birthday, I was moved in and had no further problems with the internet.

In January, we all began to have problems. The connection would fluctuate, and would sometimes allow me to go on Steam or Skype, but not access an internet browser. At first it would happen late at night, but it has become more and more frequent to the point that it's happening constantly. As I am typing this, my connection has fluctuated twice and has refused to load Facebook at least 5 times.

So we come to the present. In the past week, I have had to restart my router 142 times, with an average of 15 restarts an hour. It's not only affecting me, but it's affecting my dad as well. My mom has had infrequent problems. Surprisingly, I've haven't had to restart while typing this.

All attempts to resolve the problem have failed. We have called AT&T, only for them to claim there is no problem. I am literally at wit's end. I am asking for recommendations as to what I can do to fix this, or what kind of ISP I can change to so I can be rid of AT&T for good. Any type of help would be appreciated.

Thanks for reading.

tl;dr: Get banned.

He created RSS at 14 years old and claimed that he would make every website free for the whole world. Later on, he was arrested for illegally downloading 4.8 million files from JSTOR, a subscription-only website used for distributing science journals. He went on to become the co-founder of Reddit and Demand Progress.

Nobody knows his motive. He was last seen around Christmas time in a completely normal state.

Before you get on my case, yes, I am well aware I need to be updating my graphics drivers more often.

Last night, I was playing DiRT 3 when my screen went grey and the audio began to skip. I allowed the system a moment to regain stability, and it did so. I was brought back to the desktop where a window on my taskbar claimed that my display drivers had crashed, but recovered. I panicked for a moment and restarted my computer to clear the cache.

Upon restarting, I allowed my computer a few minutes to start up Steam, Skype, CCC, and everything else. Once everything was settled, I started up Dishonored. I played for a solid 20 minutes before the screen flickered black and it once again brought me back to my desktop where the same exact message displayed. I decided to restart my computer once more.

Again, I allowed the start up programs to initialize before opening CCC and updating from 12.6 to 12.10 (refer to earlier sentence). The update went smoothly and without incident. Following the update, I restarted the computer. When I opened CCC after restarting, it still showed I had 12.6 and that the last time I had updated was July. Puzzled, I searched up information but could find none. I decided to download Catalyst 12.10 manually off AMD's website and allow the files to overwrite. Once again, the installation went fine but CCC still stated I had an earlier version. I rolled back to 12.6 and updated to 12.10 once more, but nothing was fixed.

What do you guys recommend I do? I know I have the 12.10 files because I checked myself in the AMD folder and since the update, I haven't encountered the pixelation and driver crashes.
