Games / Metro 2033 Problem
« on: December 15, 2012, 09:05:18 AM »
My currency system seems to be glitched, and claims that dirty rounds are currency, not military grade rounds. Because I rarely find dirty rounds, I can't buy anything. The game intends MGR to be currency anyway, so I'm wondering why my game is unlike that. I haven't found any information, and everybody I've talked to says they haven't had a problem like mine.

Can anybody provide some advice?

Post what you hate most about any multiplayer community.

"u mad?" - This just sends chills down my spine and makes me want to break my arms. Yes, I'm loving mad. You're pompous and make yourself seem like you're the best player of X ever. You don't need to ask me whether I'm mad or not through a stupid phrase that has its roots from a group of memes that were beaten like a dead horse. It's bad enough you're using the phrase, just forget off.

I'll add more to the OP via quotes.

Off Topic / Birgirpall - Icelandic gaming at its finest.
« on: November 27, 2012, 05:27:36 PM »

Birgirpall is an Icelandic person who plays video games and films them. Sometimes things happen while he's playing these games.

What? You were looking for more info? There is none. That's it.

There are a ton more. I don't want to add them all.

EDIT: Literally 2 seconds ago, I realized this is Off-Topic.

Off Topic / Jumping the Shark
« on: November 25, 2012, 01:51:41 PM »
When a show has become so ridiculous that its integrity is beyond restoration, the show has been known to "jump the shark." This phrase originates from an episode of Happy Days where Fonzie literally jumps a loving shark on water skis. The phrase can also be used to describe movies and books that begin to decline in creativity or quality of writing somewhere along the way.

Many shows have been accused of jumping the shark, most often toward the end of the show's run (ex. Rugrats).

It's been 70 days.

After posting bail money, Buchta and Pezlar remain detained in a Greek prison. At this rate, they could be charged guilty and face up to 20 years of jail time.

If you cannot recall, the two Bohemia developers working on ArmA III were detained by Greek police after they were seen photographing military encampments in the city of Limnos. The pair deny such acts, though they seem warranted seeing as how they're working on a military simulator. Still, Bohemia commented at the time that their rendering of Limnos was nearly completed and did not require any further reference materials.

In my opinion, their chances of being acquitted at the moment are extremely slim. The mere fact they're being held without credible evidence is oppressive enough.

Off Topic / Another generic headset recommendation thread.
« on: November 12, 2012, 10:26:20 AM »
Recently, the left earcup on my Razer Cacharias headset died after 2 years of service in my care. The wiring was for the most part in pristine condition, save for a kink or two near the volume control. I was surprised to hear that this was about the right period of time for the left earcup to die on this headset, with the right earcup following shortly after (approx. 3 months).

So now I'm looking for a new one to get for Christmas. I was considering the Astro A50s, but the reviews are mixed and I wanted feedback from you guys as to what headset I should get.

A few guidelines:

- Budget is $300
- I need these to last me a while, at least two years.
- Wired is fine, but wireless is preferred.
- After the Cacharias died on me only after two years in pristine condition, no Razer products.
- A mic is required.

One:

Universal Studios Florida is announcing tonight at 7:30 PM EST what the fate of the recently closed Amity Island area of the park will be. Many rumors have surfaced about its future ever since the Jaws attraction along with the surrounding area was closed in January to make way for an "exciting NEW experience." There was no word about its closure until less than a month before its January 2nd "shuttering". Since then, many have said that there may be an extension to the park's New York Streets locale, while others claim that it may be an extension of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter attraction or a Floridian counterpart to the Hollywood park's newly opened Transformers: The Ride. I'll update this thread as word comes.

Two:

YouTube loving changed its layout again. There's not much to say here. Rant about it below.
There's a thread about this. Disregard.

Games / Twenty Dollar Coupon on Origin
« on: October 13, 2012, 10:23:45 AM »
I have a coupon code that you can use on games that are 20 dollars or more for Origin. If you use it on a twenty dollar order, you get that order for free. Any higher order, you get 20 dollars off.

But I will warn you that it only works on one sole game, and you can use it only once. If you use it more than once, your account can get suspended.

Games / [OPINION] How has indie gaming affected the gaming market?
« on: October 03, 2012, 02:56:56 PM »
In recent years, more and more indie games have been popping up on the radar. Some are good, some are downright horrible. I wanted to hear your opinions on the matter.

Games / Allow me to rant about the condition of Battlefield 3's multiplayer.
« on: September 29, 2012, 05:28:00 PM »
Look at this.

Notice the player Defib-Master. I will display his stats here:

77 kills, 5 deaths, 10,005 score.

I encountered this guy aimbotting while playing on a Reddit server last night. He was not only pissing off my team, but the other team as well; he was consistently switching teams throughout the match. After an excruciating 45 minutes of hearing the whole server complain, I politely asked him to leave. Surprisingly, he did so. This changes nothing, though.

I covered the basis of this rant last night on the server. The moderation of these servers is the responsibility of (a) PunkBuster, or (b) the server admin. Unfortunately, neither of these two things actually does its loving job.

PunkBuster is practically broken. The mere fact it is letting players like Defib-Master under its radar is not only exasperating, but absolutely stupid. With all my experiences with PunkBuster, not only on Battlefield, but on other games, it has NEVER worked against hackers. It is full of flaws which I will list here:

  • It will kick you if you are not running Windows with administrative accounts.
  • It will indiscriminately scan your system, and leave a potential hacker's system unscanned and untouched.
  • When it scans your system, it scans your virtual memory. If you are talking in Skype or IRC or something, and post a line of code that PunkBuster finds is malicious, it will ban you or kick you.

Now I'm going to whine about the server admins. I'm a bit looser on this subject. I can understand an admin can't always be available. I can understand servers utilize auto-admin software instead of humans who have lives and needs.

But make sure the auto-admin WORKS.

I swear, auto-admin often bans the wrong people on some servers, or like PunkBuster, does not work (note: most of the time, auto-admin works properly). Some servers don't even have auto-admin, or an admin at all. That is the case with Defib-Master.

The problem isn't that the server doesn't have moderation. You can just report the person and move on. The problem is that if you don't have somebody to take care of the server, you will lose player traffic and the hacker will not only have done his job, but you will also be gaining a bad reputation. Your server may be known as the server "without an admin" and "the server that harbors a lot of hackers".

I've made my point. Now, onto the hacker itself.

These hackers have ridiculous motives and often accuse others of hacking, like regular hackers do.

This guy, Defib-Master, insisted last night before he left that everybody complain to EA because they aren't taking care of their problem. Their problem isn't the hackers, it's PunkBuster. EA is stuff anyway, but EA and DICE should not have to babysit every goddamn server to get rid of hackers. Like I said, that is the job of PunkBuster or the server admins.

I rest my case. Discuss.
