I live in Miami. Here's why I hate it here.
It is consistently hot year-round and seasons are nonexistent. You can go to the beach everyday but it's not all it's cracked up to be. You do get used to it eventually, but it still sucks when you want to do stuff outside but the sun exists.
The state is rife with dangerous drivers. Road rage is not uncommon, people drive offensively and seem to get off of not letting you into your lane. People also do not signal, speed in the loving HOV lane, and weave in and out of traffic on I-75 like they're playing a damn video game.
Our state government is incompetent and does not have our best interests at heart. The housing market sucks richard because the state has to be involved in every stage of the foreclosure process, so houses sit abandoned for years at a time until they can be sold. It's a rather esoteric and particular issue, but it makes neighborhoods look gross, especially in older areas of South Florida.
Common core implementation has vastly decreased our quality of education in school and the curriculum is now focused entirely on standardized test preparation rather than practical skills (though I do realize this is more of a countrywide issue than anything else). Schools are underfunded and taxpayer money goes towards pointless stuff rather than hiring better teachers or providing students with upgraded course material.
Mental health care SUCKS MASSIVE richard. Lack of sufficient mental health care is why things like "Florida Man" exist.
It tends to be expensive unless you're okay with living in low income areas with a lot of crime. You need a car to go everywhere because everything is spread out and it's too hot to walk around or bike anywhere.
People down here in South Florida aren't super friendly and will threaten to end you for a minor social faux pas.
Trust me when I say that New York is better in every single way, even if it's astronomically more expensive. Everything you've heard about the city (or the state in general) is wrong, I can 100% promise you that. If you can help it, do not come to Florida.
