Drama / Re: Why Blockland is not a completely original creation
« on: February 15, 2008, 02:26:24 PM »
Nick, you didn't clear anything up at all. You just went into a tangent on how much you think lego games are horrible.

LEGO Universe is for pandaing kids. Kids as in 7 to 10 year olds who don't know what computer manufacturer made their computer. Blockland is for normal people, 13  years old and up who know just about the ins and outs of a computer.

Wow... Really?... Because as far as I know, almost this entire community consists of a bunch of morons.

I could try completely removing the player's control of the boat and just force them to use to use the sideway brick movement keys to make the boat turn... or I could allow you to face any direction but make the impulse direction slowly change. Tell me what method you prefer.

I'ld prefer the controls to work in the same manner as stock vehicles such as the jeep have in order to keep it in uniform, where moving the mouse just controls the rudder/steering. Is that possible in a 'boat' vehicle or not though?

I've been on a server that had those boats once. Their models made them look to be very promising, but I was dissapointed with the borked controls. You control the boat just like you control a minifigure or horse. There is no real turning, as the boat litterally turns with which ever way you look. You can actually turn on the spot for that matter! You can also strafe with either boat when you really shouldn't beable to.

Did we ever say it was?

Yes, a considerable fraction of this community has actually. Maybe not you, but quite a few people here have been calling against LEGO Universe ever since it's announcement while saying that a lego building game was Badspot's idea.

Why else would anyone have even made a thread titled "Thieving Lego Company"?

BTW, is LEGO Creator playable online? Nope. So we're kinda adding on to it.

Yes but that's besides the point. Dispite all of it's short commings, it still shows that a lego bulding game has been done long before Blockland, and so is not as orginal of an idea as some people here like to think it is. Bugs and lack of features are not a factor in this.

Drama / Why Blockland is not a completely original creation

I would like to introduce you all to a bit of my childhood...

If any of you were around during the late 90s, and had any sort of interest or obsession with LEGO Media, a range of highly mediocre Lego themed computer games, then chances are that you might've heard of Lego Creator.

Similar to Blockland, lego Creator was a virtual sandbox lego building game that was actually endorsed by Lego(*gasp* Shock horror!). Back in 1998, this game was Blockland to me before Blockland even existed! It was Blockland played on an old 233MHz computer. Although it was only single player, while almost everthing about it is now done better in Blockland(Including the god awful minifigure and vehicle controls.), and looking back at it now, the game contained more than a fair share of bugs. There are however a few notable things the game still currently has over Blockland, such as being able to build your own working vehicles, and bricks that moved or rotated.

The purpose of this thread is to show many people among here who beleve Blockland to be a completely original creation that something similar has infact been done before by none other than Lego. Now perhaps knowledge of this will get anyone who has suggested that Badspot should sue Lego for 'stealing his idea' with the upcoming LEGO Universe to finaly shut up.

I've got to hand it to you here. You at least did not make it an effortless screenshot comic, which is what I expected to see when I saw this.

You do realise that Wikipedia can be edited by anyone, right? It was likely someone from here who put that in the article. The sentence in question isn't very well written either, "the maker of Blockland"? Also, look at the link next to it in the article, it only goes back to the main page of this site. There are no sources or articles linked to confirm any of the claims made in there at all.
did you see te trailer the game is real

You do realise that I was talking about someone putting in only that one sentence, and not the entire LEGO universe article, right?

Of course I know the game is real you clutz.

Didn't we already have threads like these before?...

No one's going to get banned from the game for what could be considered such a petty issue. I think you're all taking this guy way too seriously. Just ignore him, since that really is the best thing you can do. And why the hell would you join his server anyway?

What I'ld like to know is, what happens when you're not on the same floor that the elevator car's on? Is there a way to 'call' for it to come to you?

What?... I don't consider this to be sticky worthy. While I do believe there are things that don't beling in the gellery which do end up getting posted in it, you didn't put this list together very well at all. For example, you've just blown a hole wide open by listing "Any Blockland creation" under things that you can submit, since that includes decals, mods, builds that weren't made in retail.

As for your list of things that shouldn't go in...

Spam/Posts worthy of off-topic: Simply saying this can be highly subjective among other users. You need to actually define what 'spam' is and what's 'worthy of off-topic'.
Anime: I swear you're just taking the piss here... Was this really needed? When was this ever a problem? Considering that to my knowledge, no one has ever submitted anything anime related to the gallery before anyway.
Pictures of yourself: Unless you're talking about player avatars(Which we had an actual "Post pictures of your Blocklanders" thread for.), then like I said above. No one has done this to the gallery before either.

While on the other hand, do you want to know what my pet peeves are? Pictures of minifigs doing silly things and love poses instead of actuall builds. Also people who think they've reached a feat in the game, then feel the need to take a screenshot of it to submit to the gallery. Basically, just not submitting a build.
