Off Topic / Hallow's Eve is upon us- what be your guise?
« on: October 30, 2016, 01:59:52 AM »
The 31st of October draws near. Frights, scares, and spirits lurk amongst every corner, and the deceased among us stir from their eternal slumber. Surely you had made your proper preparations for this hallowed evening...

...Flowery English aside, what are you planning on going as for Halloween? Currently I'm planning on going as the AVGN because I think I kinda have all the essentials (glasses, dress shirt, khakis, anger, alcoholicism (not included)) and I could do it pretty ok. Also so I can get away with bringing a costume to school.

Come Halloween, this thread'll be repurposed into a costume-posting thread where you can post your costumes, I guess. Dunno how much that would clash with the real life pictures thread but eh.

Late by a few days but whatever.

Our generation really has ran out of things to complain about- preteens aren't being shipped off to factories like in the Victorian era, and teens aren't being drafted into wars like during Vietnam, so now we're complaining about pronouns.

Gotta love how all these upper-middle class privileged teenagers think they're above this tenured psychologist with years of experience in his field.

Off Topic / Naivety or paranoia?
« on: September 10, 2016, 11:27:38 AM »
Basically, would you rather be extremely naive: assuming that everything is good and perfect and won't change, or extremely paranoid: assuming that everything is instead done out of malice, and that everything will turn out terrible?

I'd rather be naive because ignorance is bliss and I need that stuff.

Off Topic / Vent your Emotions, or Blogland: The Thread
« on: September 08, 2016, 07:53:19 PM »

pictured: some vents, that sadly aren't the focus of this thread

Basically, just post here to let off steam. Post great things that happened to you, or horrible things that happened to you. Post your personal beliefs or views on the world at large. Post anything you need to let out here, and if you can, feel free to discuss those things with others in a civil manner.

Couple rules here to maintain the peace, though. Discussion is intended to be semi-serious, so please leave all those spicey memes of yours at the door. You can give criticism to people- this isn't an asspat-centralized hugbox thread. Just don't heat these discussions up to a handicapped flame war.

Off Topic / Zanaran is 15!
« on: June 25, 2016, 12:00:38 AM »

So, to celebrate 15 years of my awful existence on this earth, I'll go ahead and list out some cool stuff I've accomplished over the course of this year, in no particular order.

  • I turned my stuffty drawings into titty drawings!
  • I can play a sick punk bass now.
  • Took up running as a competitive sport. You can call me Sonic.
  • Created buttloads of characters.
  • Did tons of worldbuilding, and created a universe to store aforementioned buttloads of characters.
  • Made stufftons of new friends and entered a few different cliques groups.
  • Passed high school by the skin of my teeth.
  • Attempted to grow a fro. Did not go as planned.

And I suppose the list ends there. Gosh I need to make something out of myself.

Buy me things.

so, here's the scenario: you're a character in a vidya game, and the main adventurer dude strikes up a conversation with you. what would play in the background?

http://www.retrocade.net/gameAction/23/play-game

So I found this game I used to play a long time ago and it has a really good track (it's the one that's pretty funky) and I wanna know where I can find it. The game's credits only say "various sources" so they didn't make it, but they had to have gotten it from somewhere.

Off Topic / Favorite type of musical sound/instrument?
« on: March 18, 2016, 03:44:33 PM »
I'm curious, what're your favorite sounds/instruments in music? I have quite a few, in no particular order:

  • a lot of synths used in lee nicklen's music (think early nitrome games)- I can't really put my finger on what they are, but all I know is that they sound forgetin a++. especially the bassy sorta ones. examples: 1 2 3
  • the upright bass- ok, I may be a bit biased here because I play the instrument in orchestra but boy, does it sound excellent when played right. 1 2 3
  • hell, why not throw in the electric bass while we're at it? as you can tell from this list so far, I'm fairly biased towards bass instruments. you can call me the bassman. examples: this guy's entire goddamn channel
  • orchestra hits- they can make good bridges between musical phrases, and can also double as rather creative lead instruments. examples: pretty much all of metallic madness's japanese soundtrack

Forum Games / Fortunately, Unfortunately v777
« on: February 24, 2016, 04:41:08 PM »
Because the old thread has been lost to time, I decided to bring this pretty alright concept back to life.

Basically, you make the event above your post have a good outcome or bad outcome, alternating between the two. This is tough for me to explain, so something like:

1: Fortunately, you survive a car crash.
2: Unfortunately, you lost your dominant arm.
3: Fortunately, you purchased a mechanical replacement so you can truly become Götz von Berlichingen.
4: Unfortunately, being Götz von Berlichingen makes you an enemy of the Holy Roman Empire.
5: Fortunately, you can tell them to lick your ass.
6: Unfortunately, they actually do.

You see where I'm going here. I'm gonna start with a neutral sentence, you can make it unfortunate or fortunate, you decide.

You receive a mysterious letter in the mail.

Whoever made this has way too much time on their hands.

Keep in mind the 360° effect doesn't work for some browsers, so watch out for that I suppose.

Off Topic / Blogland: Mini-rant about inferiority
« on: January 28, 2016, 10:22:06 AM »
Yeah this might be a big load of personal filth, and to many of you it'll probably sound like some edgy teenage whining or something but I just need to get it off my chest.

Basically, I noticed that I am pretty much middling to downright terrible at almost all of my skills. I can't for the life of me name anything I'm into (drawing, composing, audio editing, programming, designing things, wit, sports, making friends, gaming, writing, generating ideas for a list) that none of my friends/acquaintances, online or in real life, can't do twice as well and in half the time. Even when I'm not comparing myself to others, watching me do these things is painful, because it's maddeningly easy for me to point out all the flaws. It might just stem from me being competitive as forget and wanting to be better than everyone, it might stem from me trying to be a one-man band who has to master everything.

I've been procrastinating a ton on practicing these skills of mine, mostly because it's hard to appreciate my improvements when the sheer number of issues that I still have undermine them. I don't want to just drop everything I have now and become a stale, talentless hack who stuffs out effortless content (reaction videos, pranks, etc.) but I also can't bring myself to move forward and improve.

I hope this wasn't terribly painful to read and all, but again I just wanted to vent here to this forum full of wannabe /b/tards incase any of them happen to have any advice. All in all I guess it's just a motivation thing and me losing my drive to do stuff.

So recently I joined the PSAL day of distance event and ran the 1600/1 mile run, it was my first race because I missed the previous one. The first two laps (the track is 200m long, so eight laps) were okay, but laps three through eight were an enormous drag. I managed to pull through though, and nabbed 2nd place in the heat by like 0.06 seconds, and got 10th overall.

Afterwards I was super exhausted and celebrated with Subway'sTM. I'd say I did pretty okay for my first race.

AMA while I'm here, I suppose.
