Every once in a while someone invents something that changes the way we live for the better.

...this is not one of those things.

http://www.cnn.com/2010/TECH/02/01/love.robot/index.html?iref=allsearch

$7000. And already 4000 people (men) have pre-ordered one.

Today science brings us a love robot but tomorrow?

Sodomy bot (for the men that like men)?

Incest-tron  (for the men that like their sisters)?

T-X (for the men that like getting terminated)?

Games / DDO Update 3

http://www.ddo.com/

For those that don't know, dungeons and dragons online is a free to play MMORPG that won just about every free to play MMORPG award there was.

...And now it just got better

Notes:
http://compendium.ddo.com/wiki/Release_Notes_Update_3_Official

Some of the major enhancements from previous version:

No more leveling sigils:
Now free to play players can go from level 1 to 20 without having to run the same dungeon over and over again trying to pull one.

Resurrection
: Character suck? Just tired of you current build? Resurrect it and roll all new stats without losing your level or gear. Or better yet, hit level 20 and then true resurrect in to a new character that is even more powerful with access to feats from your past life.

New, Free quests:
    *  the Demon's Den. (CR 18)
    *  Acid Wit. (CR 15)
    * Delirium. (CR: 15)
    * Mired in Kobolds. (CR: 13)

I've played the last two, they both drop good loot, Delirium is hilarious while Mired in Kobolds has a surprise ending optional that is a real beast but totally worth doing if you think you can win.

Difficulty: Casual
For quests you can't beat, and for quests you want to solo that you could not before.

Hirelings:
Suck less but are still not a replacement for another player (unless that player also sucks).

Monks:
Now slightly better?

Arcane Archer:
Bows are now a useful weapon!

Wizard Pale Master:
I've respec'd one of my wizards to pale master, it's loving great and their summons are actually useful.

Other stuff:

...and they are not pretty. While ruins of formerly standing buildings are everywhere there is one spot of wanted to check, as I was curious if I would see throngs of protesters at the gates.

The U.S. Embassy

There doesn't seem to be, there is however a very long line of people outside waiting to get in and inside the compound there are dozens of tents set up, that I assume are for injured folks and whatnot.

However, that's not what I am really curious about now. What I am wondering is: What must the average Haitian think, being from the poorest country in the world, seeing that not only do the Americans (that live right next door) have a nicely manicured lawns but a pool? The whole thing looks less like an embassy and more like a resort.

Games / My DDO FAQ
« on: November 17, 2009, 11:02:47 AM »
For those the saw the other two threads about this and for those that didn't.

http://www.ddo.com/playnow/

D&D Online is a MMORPG that has recently become free to play. Not all of the content is free but all it can be played for free ...err, i should explain that. All of the quests you complete garner favor, favor in turn gives free points for the DDO store which can be used to purchase game content. Here are some handy guides:

http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=198865&utm_source=EDM_Oct09&utm_medium=EMAIL&utm_campaign=NEWSLETTER&referral=119907&skip=1

http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=199945&utm_source=EDM_Oct09&utm_medium=EMAIL&utm_campaign=NEWSLETTER&referral=119907&skip=1

I am a VIP and get all the content for free, however I am only saving up my 500 points gained monthly and those earned from quests so that at some point I can revert back to F2P and simply buy all the content. If you want a quick 350 points start a character on every server, have them run 5 korthos quests on solo or 3 on normal and you will earn 50 favor every time you do this, this only works for one character each server.

Quote
Turbine Point Favor Rewards

The following chart depicts favor Rewards that are earned by achieving each tier for the first time on a server. These rewards can only be earned once per server.

favor.........TP reward
5................50
25...............25
50...............25
500..............50
1000.............100
2000..............100
3000..............100

In addition to the once per server rewards each character on an account may earn Turbine point favor rewards at the rate of 25 TP for every 100 favor earned.

Before you pick up the game, please, please read this FAQ. These are the most common questions I get... that make me want to choke a bitch:

Q: Why am I missing so much?
A: Melee gets a higher chance to hit from str or dex if you have the weapon finess feat, ranged gets a bonus from dex. Are you proficient with you weapon? Is your class meant for melee? Are you using two weapons without the two weapon fighting feat? (there are a chain of feats that boost your ability with two weapons, even with the highest one you will still have a -2 for having a second weapon).

Q: Where do I find X?
A: Weapons are found in house D, arcane and divine materials are found in house J, Scrolls and wands can be found in house P, the feat re-trainer Fred is in house J under the floating garden thing.

Q: What's house J, K, P & D?
A: Go to the market, open the map. See the green stars? Hover over them a second and it tells you what they are.

Q: Why can't I solo, why is this game so hard?
A: Every class has it's strengths and weaknesses, this is not a solo game and at many points you will need the abilities of other classes.

Q: What should I have in my party?
A: Always at least a: healer (Cleric or favored soul), rogue (Search and disable device are a must) and a Melee class (paladin, fighter & barbarian or Ranger made for Melee).

Q: If I need many abilities should I multi-class ...and what's multi classing?
A: First of all: NO. Second: it is when you take a second and maybe a third class to supplement your own.

Q: So should I multi class in to a...
A: No.

Q: You didn't let's me finish, I want to make a cleric/rog...
A: No.

Q: Really? is it that bad?
A: Not at all, some really great characters can be made by mixing classes. It's just that it has to be just the right mix of classes and abilities. When you know a lot more about the game, think of the mix you want, ask for feedback about it on the DDO forum and then make it very carefully.

Q: Hou to play Rogue?
A: High intelligence, maxed out search and disable device. Parties could really care less about how much damage a rouge is doing, the only reason groups want them is for dealing with traps and sometimes opening locks.

Q: Hou to play Wizard/Sorcerer?
A: Stay out of melee, cast spells like hypnosis and web a lot and try to avoid damage dealing spells until you are a higher level. Also cast buffs on the party and get the "extend" metamagic.

Q: Hou to play Cleric/Favored soul?
A: No one likes a battle cleric trying to be primary healer, focus on healing enhancements and DVs (you'll know them when you see them on the list). If you are a battle cleric, tell the party so that can get a real healer.

Q: What's a battle cleric?
A: A friend.

Q: Hou to play Paladin/Fighter/Barbarian?
A: take shiny metal thing and hit monsters with it until they stop moving. Have lots of str and con. Don't move around while attacking, you'll lower you chance of hitting and raise your chance of being hit. If you are a paladin have at least a little charisma and don't be stingy with the lay on hands. Above all else, PROTECT THE CASTERS AND HEALERS.

Q: Hou to play Ranger?
A: Same as above, get the two weapon fighting feats and go to town with what ever you like. Forget bows, they really suck in this game. Have some wisdom (at least 14) but mostly str and con.

Q: Hou to play Bard?
A: As parties are forming there is often a space left in the group and discussion often goes like this:
Party leader: What should we get next, another healer or a caster?
Person #1: Either, or a warchanter bard.
Person #2: Oh ya, a warchanter would be sweet.
Person #3: Ya try to find a warchanter.
What is a Warchanter? I am not entirely certain, I've never rolled one. All i know is that they lower the cost of my spells and give me damage reduction 5 and godlovingdamnit I want one in my party.

================================================================================================

This is not an in depth guide just a small FAQ, fighters for example are very different from barbarians but for the purposes of this FAQ I tossed them in the same group. There are many things in this FAQ that are not direct fact, for example rangers can be good with a bow but it requires a very specific build and gear, that a novice player will not have.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fictional_films
Quote
This is a list of fictional films that have been referenced in various forms of media. These films are usually shown within another film or as part of a television episode, usually either as a prop or as a recurring theme visited throughout, such as the fictional Stab trilogy in the Scream franchise.

An interesting article to be certain but that aside: why the hell aren't some of these real movies?

Alvin and the Chipmunks vs. Jason Voorhees

How is this not a real movie? I know more than a few million people would pay to see chipmunk blood be spilled by the hands of a machete wielding masked man. Speaking of machetes...

Machete vs national socialist Werewolf Women in Cages
There is nothing about this movie title that makes be think this will be anything but what can only be described as the best movie about machetes, national socialists, werewolves, women and cages ever made.

Columbine High School Musical

Too soon? No forget that, if someone dancing down a hallway singing merrily while cycling a fresh round in to the chamber of a shotgun is anything it's: not soon enough.

Attack of the Radioactive Hamsters from a Planet near Mars
Are they alien hamsters or earth hamsters that happen to live near mars and are radioactive? Doesn't matter, not with Micheal Bay directing.

Take a look at the link and post a few of your own that you think are more than deserving of having a few million dollars thrown at to be put on the big screen.

Drama / koolkody12
« on: September 17, 2009, 07:44:16 AM »
A lot of people have asked me: "what's the deal with koolkody12?" and I answer: "who? what? why do you want to know?" Then I realize that there is no one there and I am talking to myself. This realization does not come as a shock because this sort of thing happens all the time and by “all the time” I mean rarely and by “rarely” I mean never… oooh is that a sharpie?! *sniffs*

Regardless, there are some facts about koolkody12 that you should know.
koolkody12 was created by the soviets in 1947 to fight the national socialists, it was a testament the soviets poor time keeping skill that koolkody12 was created two years after the war ended. After they found out that all the good national socialists were either dead or in Argentina (hardly worth killing them there, being there was worse than death anyway), the scientists tried to think of a good use for this thing (Sort of a super soldier without any super powers or soldierly ability). After a lot of drinking and brain storming they failed to find a use for their stock pile of national socialist killing koolkody12, in the end gave up and simply placed it on ice.

For years koolkody12 sat in a freezer with other wastes of soviet science and money like the nuclear toaster, the paper tank and the efficient electric car. Until one fateful day in the early 2000s koolkody12 was mistaken for a love doll and shipped overseas to a client that was less than pleased to see koolkody12 and not a rubber love toy. It was naturally only a short time before koolkody12 ended up in a landfill were, awakened by the heat of burning methane wells, koolkody12 began to bond with discarded electronics forming a computer network which then piggy backed, via hacked wireless signals, on to the internet.
The rest as they say, is history.

tl;dr:

Make a drama topic about me now.

Wish granted.

Off Topic / Pandora internet radio reads your mind... kinda.
« on: August 24, 2009, 12:00:28 AM »
http://www.pandora.com

It's an internet radio station with an interesting concept behind it, you tell it your favorite band (and maybe a few more), then using the magical voodoo power of computers it plays songs that you like. When a song comes on you can choose if you like it or not to further refine your music list.

I have been listening to it for 2 days now and as I thumbs up and thumbs down things it has gotten closers and closer to looking like my own mp3 playlist. So as far playing what I already have goes, it does that very well.

What I like about it is that every now and then it plays something I didn't know and find that I like.

Naturally all the new songs it plays that I like get added to my mp3 list.

Pros: Finds music you like

Cons: Sometimes plays things you don't, you can only skip songs so many times per hour (you can get around this by just refreshing the page to skip songs your don't want to hear)

EDIT:
Dear Pandora Visitor,

We are deeply, deeply sorry to say that due to licensing constraints, we can no longer allow access to Pandora for listeners located outside of the U.S

That also sucks.

I would join the bandwagon but for two reasons:
1. I like my avatar.
2. all those avatars remind me of this old youtube video:

(I picture all your avatars singing this in chorus)

If you have already seen this: good for you. If not: enjoy.

Off Topic / Why does the forum have a topic about nipples?
« on: August 21, 2009, 04:22:39 AM »
Seriously, why?

It doesn't do anything, it just sits there, being all topical and stuff.

Does anyone have any possible idea as to why?

This would make for a great biology report now that I think about it. :D *Inserts something to replace "biology report" with forum/nipple equivalent.*

Games / forget you Ducktales was awesome.
« on: August 14, 2009, 12:39:59 PM »
I was just talking to some folks online about classic NES games and I mentioned what is considered to be one of the best by many people: Ducktales. A fellow in the discussion stated the Ducktales sucked and was promptly pounced on by the entire room for being a dumb ass. After a heated argument he finally admitted that he had never played it.

That pointless anecdote aside here is the best video game music ever:
