right, which really only means that it's a condition which negatively affects someone's normal function in some way, it's a purely medical classification. stigmatizing mental illness really only stops people from seeking treatment when they need it, tho obv that's not a problem exclusive to GID. and that kind of stigma is probably also why some trans people are against the classification of GID as a disorder

Is it not fair to assume that reassignment surgery, which effectively destroys the reproductive system, is something which negatively affects someone's normal function? I'd like to believe that there's some sort of middle ground between stigmatizing and enabling. To me, surgery seems to be more of an enabler.

I understand the complexity of the disorder, so long as we're calling it what it is: a disorder. Forgive me if I have little faith in the judgement of doctors when it comes to recommending expensive surgeries to exploitable people.

EDIT: To clarify, in my original post I said 'You'd think it'd just be easier', not 'it would be easier'. I'm open to discussion regarding the issue so long as we're not flinging stuff about "gay conversion camps".

Both are personal choices that do not affect you in the slightest.

Did I say it affected me? You say it doesn't affect me but then you call me a jerk or a bigot or whatever when I don't enable this disordered behavior by playing into their illness. I don't consider a man in love with another man to be in need of help. I consider a man who wants to mutilate his body to be in need of help.
