why? you can make a better looking 2D game or a nasty outdated 3D game. does he even have any programming experience? it's probably better to start with 2D anyway

A friend wants to start on making video games and his computer can't run any of these fancy new game engines.

it's only hard to run if you make it hard to run. just because it uses T3D doesn't mean it's going to be intensive by default. I'm 100% sure you can disable any fancy lighting effects or anything like that
