if it's a cave there'd be nothing but blackness in the back, and nothing for the sunlight to reflect off of
and really what else could it BE given the appearance of the background
maybe it's some kinda magical MAGE hideout cave and there's a pot of magical stuff that's glowing blue

and if it WAS there, and the light was coming from directly in front of him, it wouldn't cast a shadow on his face, and the elbow shadow still wouldn't make sensenot directly in front

but anyway, during that attempt, I realized that you are right about his muzzle. there should be a shadow on the front of his muzzle. but I don't see any issue with the elbow still
