Modification Help / Exporting from Sketchup -> Blender -> Milkshape??
« on: July 30, 2014, 12:32:21 PM »
I've just been trying to export a simple model from Sketchup to blender (so then it can be exported again to milkshape)

.dae files (which are exported from sketchup) can be transfered into .obj files in blender, which I then put into milkshape so I can add my textures/muzzlepoints/mountpoints.
Unfortunately the item wont texture.
Has anyone successfully made a weapon or vehicle in sketchup and managed to export it through these channels to Blockland?

I prefer to use Sketchup as I've used it for other projects for a while now.

Games / Elder Scrolls Online - is it worth it?
« on: July 23, 2014, 08:09:18 AM »
I've been looking at Elder Scrolls Online recently, doing a bit of research on what people think about the games.
Let me start off by saying if you're interested in buying this game DONT BUY THE STEAM VERSION! people have been reviewing it saying that the steam version did not give them a key, buy it from the elder scrolls online website instead.

So yeah, am I ready to pop out £50 then £9 every month?
Well is the game good enough? Has anyone actually played it? I'm not talking about the beta which they had a while ago, I mean does anyone actually play it right now or has in the last month?

It looks like the perfect game for me but I want to be really sure I want to play it before I buy it!

This is going to be hard to explain so I'll try my best using images to explain what I want.
I am making a skiing mountain, and I have ski lifts in said mountain.

Unfortunately, due to the elevation of the mountain, building the cables between the ski lifts have proved to be difficult.
So forums, I have come to you for assistance. I need a particle or hologram which will link the two bricks together.

Here's an example of what it'd look like, in red.

50 points to whoever makes a cool logo

Point Scoring
There are currently two methods of scoring points.
Firstly, the easiest way to build up points is to explore the map! Hidden around the map are Powerboxes. You can find the first one in the spawn room! Clicking on a Powerbox will give you one point, there are currently 20 across the map! Find them all and redeem them in the store.
The second method to getting points will be competitions. There are currently eight competitions to join in! Each competition has a different reward!

Competitions
Each competition has different requirements for entry, and different rewards, below is a list of everything you'll need to know about the various cups. They're split into three categories.
Competitions are between 4 competitors, which is split into a semi final and a final. The winner will receive a cup, if you come second or third place you won't get anything.
Competition Rules
-You get one shot at the ride, a bad landing is disqualification.
-Wait your turn. The Competition Host will tell you when to Ride.
-If you're not competing in the competition, stay away from the slope!
-Viewing is allowed, Please ensure you're viewing from the cliff edge on Freestyle or in the stadium seating in Big Air
-Good sportsmanship is always nice, don't whine or be a douche.

The Freestyle Cup
The Freestyle Cup is based on the Freestyle slope. Here you will find a series of jumps, boxes and rails!
Ride down the slope to the end, whoever pulls the sickest moves wins!

    Bronze Freestyle Cup
    Entry Requirements: None
    Winner Reward: 75 Points

    Silver Freestyle Cup
    Entry Requirements: Bronze Freestyle Cup
    Winner Reward: 100 Points

    Gold Freestyle Cup
    Entry Requirements: Silver Freestyle Cup
    Winner Reward: 150 Points

The Big Air Cup
The Big Air Cup is based on the west side of the mountain, with a large viewing platform and amazing pyrotechnics, this jump is fun even for the viewers!

    Bronze Big Air Cup
    Entry Requirements: None
    Winner Reward: 75 Points

    Silver Big Air Cup
Entry Requirements: Bronze Big Air Cup
    Winner Reward: 100 Points

Suggestions & Requests / Diagonal Fence.

Always have needed this brick, shame nobody has made it.

Basically the standard Fence that's now default in Blockland, the same length but diagonal.

Games / Unturned - 3.0 [Waiting on the update....]
« on: July 10, 2014, 11:58:17 AM »
Zombie RPG with a blocky style. Free to play or a $5 for gold membership (extra servers and stuff) Really simple and fun to play, better than DayZ in my opinion! Drivable vehicles and craftable buildings/items! Give it a go, its free!

Looking for blockland host for a team vs team territory battle!
I want to organise a territory TDM match. In this game, two teams get to choose a team and then fight for that team. With integrated steam groups this is now possible without friendly fires!
Please contact me if you'd like to set this up with me, I have a number of friends who'd be interested in this.

3.0 Announced!

Dedicated Hosting

I've got some bad news for you guys on the dedicated hosting.
CCA has informed me that Hammerhost may be working with Nelson in the upcoming update.
This is of course a bad thing, as hammerhost is a terrible service and will ruin Unturned and Nelson loveton's reputation.

I'll keep you guys updated.

Games / Kingdom Crusade [Indie Game/WIP]
« on: July 09, 2014, 06:42:30 PM »
So I've been working on this for a while now. This topic is more of a development diary. I'm hoping to have this game finished in a year or two. I'm building this game in Unity Engine, and modelling it on Sketchup.

Features:
  • Survival
  • Medieval
  • MMO
  • PVP
  • Castles:
               Quests
               Vendors
               Banks
  • Death system:
Drop ammo and money on death
               Pick-up able ammo and money
  • Battlegrounds/safezones
  • Lots of weapons/armor

Basically this will be a cross between DayZ and Skyrim (but obviously more of an indy budget).
This is not to be mistaken with my Blockland project, with the same name. I haven't been playing blockland much and I liked the name. This project is something to do alongside my degree. If anyone would like to help (animators/coders/modellers) feel free to PM me.

Progress Report:
(DD-MM-YY)
10-07-14      Terrain has been made, watch tower, market stall, stables and blacksmith have all been finished, castle is still WIP

Games / Why have none of these games been made yet?!
« on: July 07, 2014, 09:51:19 AM »
Literally just spent an hour on steam searching up different tags to try and find a good game!
I've only bought about 40-50 games on steam yet I am always disappointed at how they aren't as good as I thought.
Its like devs are becoming less creative as technology evolves.
All I want is an MMORPG which is a cross over between skyrim and DayZ.
I am literally bored of every single game I find. Blockland is nice because of the creative side but I am seriously getting annoyed that all the games I buy are complete bullstuff.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance looks like pretty much the only style of game that I want, and it doesn't come out for ages!

Anyone reccomend me a good game? Qualities I enjoy:

Medieval
Creative
MMO / Online
Survival
Customizable characters/equipment

A Guide To Finding Your Inspiration and Improving Your Build Skill

Are you finding it hard to create quality builds due to your lack of building skill? Maybe your building skill isn't a problem. Your houses are box shaped and un-original? Maybe the problem lies with the source of your inspiration. A key turning point in my Blockland career was when I learnt to find original concepts and images online. There's the whole internet to source from which many builders do not utilise.
I am here to offer my guidance and help in teaching you how to find inspirations from your projects.
You may remember SPO Kingdom. The castle which was the lead steam advertisement in blockland (pictured below) Pass and I searched for a while before to find our inspiration, which was the exterior gate of the main castle with some of the castle's battlements in the background. Unfortunately I cannot find the photo Pass found.

Inspiration Requests
If you'd like help finding your inspiration, reply to this thread with your request; the more detailed the better, try to include a time era and location)
Some examples:
'Modern house in the country side exterior'
'Battered African huts in a small tight village'
'Boring modern office building exterior'
'Large modern bank exterior in the heart of a city'
'Boring modern office interior'
I will then reply with an image or set of images which are closest to what you're searching for.

Want to try and find one by yourself?
I usually used image searches from various websites. Google search usually has a nice source of information of web pages with galleries. Tumblr usually has a good source of architecture but if you search through medieval stuff you'll have to filter out the cosplay and fandom b/s. The biggest piece of advice I could give you is to NOT copy Lego sets. Most of the official Lego sets aren't scaled to Blockland and will not look good, you'll spend hours trying to copy a manual and eventually it wont even to be scale.

You've found the image you want, now what?
Don't copy the build exactly. Spend time examining the build's features such as indents and spacing. Next you need to try and scale the build to Blockland. Remember that a Blockland character is 5 bricks tall and 3 bricks wide. Doors/Archways usually have a foot or two above the average human's head. Once you've started to build to the style of the image you want to bring in your own creativity to finish the build to the size you want. It's important to use inspiration for interior too. You don't have to use the same real life building for the interior and exterior. They could be from completely different places!

Feel free to request help from myself to find inspiration for your project. I urge you all to follow my tips to make you into a well established builder.
I'd appreciate it if you have used my guide to post a picture of the inspiration you found/were given and the build you completed from it. (It may help others!)
