Off Topic / 2D game engine that uses C++?

Hey forums. Africa is going well. I've been here for three months now and have another nine till I leave.

I've kinda been missing game design so I'd like to make a terraria style game using C++.
Terraria uses C# on Microsoft's XNA engine.
Anyone have any good suggestions? Previously I used Allegro which was great but way too slow.

If you can find a landline, maybe you can hog up the dial-up connection for a few hours.

Would still go through as the same price, I don't have a problem with speed, just price.

Just out of curiosity, what company is providing the Internet?

There are only two phone/internet companies in Malawi, Airtel and TNM. Airtel is general for the central and southern region so I go with them. Both of them have the same prices pretty much. It's the cheapest way to get internet, even using a business or home WiFi connection.

castle crashers HD, sunset overdrive, titanfall 2 pre-alpha is this weekend for free.

Can't download something unless it's actually worth it. It costs me $3 per GB...

My new housemate has an xbox1 so I've made myself an account. Since im still in Africa the internet is kinda stuffty as I hotspot it off my phone.
Pretty much only playing rb6 siege, forza, bf4 and payday 2.

Just wondering if I could run No Mans Sky on my laptop. I'm away from my computer for a year and I really want to play some NMS. Also does it completely require an internet connection?

as someone who has worked an 8-5 for well over a year now, there is a lot i would do to have the same opportunity as you. although i see  figuring out the college credit/debt situation as a big issue

Debt from university isn't a problem. If you leave the country they can't find you lol

Thanks for the suggestions and support. the reason for me wanting to do a year out here is that I don't want to go through some boring 9-5 life and have a stable job. Id rather be poor and have an adventure for life. That's just me.
