It'll bomb.
Probably. Most of the stuff he has developed has worked out and became an actual piece of software. He's probably asleep now, so I'm going to research more about the Quake engine.

I can guarantee this project will be worked on, and we will most likely release a version, but I cannot guarantee that it will ever be finished.

Is his name Kalphiter?
No. His Skype name is Blake, not to be confused with Blake1.

He has never actually played Blockland before trying the demo a couple of months ago. He only had a quick glance, but he looked at the website and some of the servers that were being hosted and thought it was cool. I told him most of the basics. I was going to give him one of my keys... Then I thought about getting revoked.

make a game similar to it.

Yeah, I'm not too sure about this. After talking about sandbox games for a while, I mentioned Blockland and a large discussion started. Somehow, he got the idea that the game was dead and it would be good to make a game similar to it. I don't know what to think, I said I'd help him, but I'm a little too lazy to work on a project like this. I know that he's a great programmer, it may be O.K. to call him a professional.

He's going to use Unity for it, and we're going to call it PixeldIn. I want to use a modified Quake 3 engine though. If this idea is not considered more than a joke, we're going to start real development on it.

So, what are your ideas on this? Would you play it if we ever finish it?

Also, we're not going to borrow anything from Blockland. We might incorporate similar elements into the game (Minigames, RTB clone, etc...), but nothing from the game will actually be used.

So, /discuss.

I'm not going to add anymore games to the list unless I get a lot of suggestions for a certain game.

I'm playing AssaultCube right now and enjoying it. 8-)

Open Source Games

What are Open Source games?
Open Source games are created with the purpose of the code being freely available to everyone, whatever purpose. There are many notable examples of Open Source software, although this thread mainly focuses on the games.

Notable Games
Cube 2: Sauerbraten
Cube 2: Sauerbraten is a free multiplayer & singleplayer first person shooter, the successor of the Cube FPS.

OpenArena
OpenArena is a community-produced deathmatch FPS based on GPL idTech3 technology.

0 A.D
0 A.D. is a free, open-source, cross-platform real-time strategy game under development by Wildfire Games. It is historical war and economy game focusing on the years between 500 B.C. and A.D. 500

Warzone 2100
In Warzone 2100, you command the forces of The Project in a battle to rebuild the world after mankind has almost been destroyed by nuclear missiles.

OpenTTD
OpenTTD is an open source simulation game based upon Transport Tycoon Deluxe

What is the point of Open Source software?
Open source software is developed by groups of people that contribute different features and functions to an application or operating system.

Take Linux for example. There are many many versions of Linux that have been contributed too over the years, but the underlying code is very similar and uses a Linux Kernel as the basis for the OS.

Free Games
“Free software” means software that respects users' freedom and community. Roughly, it means that the users have the freedom to run, copy, distribute, study, change and improve the software. Thus, “free software” is a matter of liberty, not price. To understand the concept, you should think of “free” as in “free speech,” not as in “free beer”.

As GNU said above.

Notable Games
Nexuiz Classic
Nexuiz was originally developed by Lee Vermeulen and Forest ‘LordHavoc’ Hale, who started Alientrap in the summer of 2002. The goal of the project was to create a high quality first person shooter that could be played freely across all platforms in one package: PC, Mac, and Linux. The engine that powered Nexuiz was Forest Hale’s Darkplaces engine.

TrueCombat
TrueCombat is a tactical-teamplay oriented, modern-world combat simulation modification for the Quake III, Enemy Territory & Call of Duty 4 engines.

America's Army
America's Army (also known as AA or America's Army Game Project) is the name of a video game franchise and other media developed by the United States Army and released as a global public relations initiative to help with recruitment.
