images of the locomotives of the different eras, for comparison:

1970s:

F45:

SD40-2

F7A (F unit)

GP-9

1990s:

Dash 9:

ES44:

SD70ACE:

P42:

personally I think the earlier era is much more iconic and would be easier to make more universal and generic trains with, which is what we need for such a project as this. however, the look of the P42 and SD70 is pretty cool, so I dont know.

If you're going to do this, pick a specific era and location, and determine what locomotives and cargo types you want to include in the project. So far you guys seem really indecisive about what you want to do. I'm relatively well versed in railroad stuff, so hit me up if you want any suggestions. If you for sure choose to base this project on American trains, here are some suggestions. Based on the current engines you have in the poll, you should do eras like:

1970s-1980s (GP-35, GP-9, F45, F40PH, SD40-2, F Units, Dash 7, Dash 8, etc.)

or

1990s-2000s (Dash 9, ES44, AC4400, AC6000, SD40-2, SD70, SD90, P42, F59, etc.)

Obviously it would take way too much work to make all these vehicles, but pick an era and stick with it.

*cough* arekan *cough*
also this for good quality sounds ^^

so basically a freebuild but you can only build a certain thing
essentially a themed freebuild, which is totally doable. maybe it's actually a good thing. since you're a bit restricted, it might be easier to come up with something to build.

Island Domination
Federation v. Rebels

Island Domination is a capture point team deathmatch where the Pacific Federation battles an organization of fearless Rebels for control of the rural South Pacific island, Isla de Bloque.

Objective

The server takes inspiration from an ArmA series style capture point game mode. There are a total of 5 points in key locations around the island. To win, one team must be in control of at least 4 points for 75 seconds*. An objective of this size will take a considerable amount of teamwork and determination, so be ready to coordinate with your team.

*(Game rules and balancing are subject to change)

Team Assets

Vehicles

Each team has a variety of vehicles to choose from. However, each must be earned by spending points to purchase vehicles. Vehicle spawn areas have an interface that is used to purchase assets for the team. Upon purchase of a vehicle, more buttons used to spawn vehicles and recover them will appear and be available for use. The ? buttons display the prices of all the different vehicles. Both teams are able to obtain a basic transport truck at the beginning of each round for free. Once a vehicle has been bought, it can be respawned for free until the next round.

Demonstration of buying a vehicle

Intel

Both bases have an intelligence room with a crude map inside. The map displays the rough location of each capture point and which team currently controls it. Each button is clickable and will display the name of its corresponding location.

The Build

Island Domination makes use of Kobble's Isla de Bloque with permission.

Changes

Since the last time I hosted this, around two months ago, I have made some changes to improve and streamline gameplay. If you have any suggestions for the server, post them here or in the Discord server.

  • Rebel Uniforms are now a lighter color than before to make it easier to distinguish between teams.
  • Signs have been places alongside roads to ease navigation of the map and getting to control points.
  • Vehicle prices have been slightly adjusted. Some are now more expensive to improve balance.
  • Stratofortress' M1 Abrams has been added as an Armored Vehicle, now available for purchase for 65 points.
  • New sounds have been added to several vehicles.
  • The stock transport truck now spawns automatically on minigame reset.
  • Floating markers have been placed above each capture point and change color based on who owns them.
  • Transfer points to team mates with '/givePoints <player> <amount>'.

Administration

There isn't really much need for administration, so there's only a few at the moment.

Communications

I've created a Discord server specifically for Island Domination as well as any other servers I make in the future. There are three voice channels, one general, and one for each team. Moderation to keep cheaters out of channels of the opposite team will not always be available, which means most of the time they work on the honor system. Use them at your own risk.

This thread is actually kind of loving handicapped. You're satirizing one of the most annoying posting patterns on the entire forum that everyone already knows is annoying, and essentially breaking the satire barrier so hard that it is no longer satire but just another annoying thread. I get that you're trying to prove a point here but seriously isn't this a little too much?

A- for creativity though.
exactly this

this thread was created specifically to spite anyone who dare disagree with the more left-leaning political view. from what I'm seeing as this thread develops, the only people playing along with this joke are the more left-leaning members. look, we all know the claim that the elections are rigged is pretty far fetched, but to make a satirical/parody thread of it is pretty childish. come on guys

General Discussion / Re: how do we get players back to BL

Here's an idea.

In TF2 servers, there are a lot of public servers hosted by Valve that people can join for a good authentic TF2 experience.

What if Badspot adopted something similar to that? Badspot could host his Block Party, and other popular game modes. Games that would have an authentic Blockland experience. It could be administrated by very trusted members and be used to create a healthy environment for new players.
Although this is a great idea in practice, Badspot has seemingly demonstrated that his care and love for the game and its success has dwindled a lot. I personally don't think he would be up to the task. He gets a lot of crap from the community and probably doesn't see any good reason to give back. The game, although not being even close to dead, has run its course in regards to being a popular game. The engine is old and not very versatile, many important and impactful members have left the community for various reasons (grown up, moved on to other things, left due to unhappiness in our unusual community), and the community has been given a very bad rap for being so toxic. Badspot obviously knows these things, and probably doesn't feel like it's worth it to put much more time into Blockland this late in its life, with it being likely that not much would come of it.

Even though it's sad to think of Blockland being in such a state as it is right now, if we want change, success, and growth, we absolutely must take initiative and start creating more content. That probably sounds like a broken record to many of you, but it's the hard truth. There really isn't much else we can do at this point. As said earlier in this thread, people buy the game, play it for a day or two, only to find there is a huge lack of content and variety of servers to play on. The starfishs who ban new players/inexperienced, incompetent players on sight don't help, either. I know this is a small community, but it is really toxic speaking objectively. New members are held to an extremely high standard when first becoming part of it, which is another factor that drives people away.

There are a lot of things that need to be fixed before this game sees any significant growth in the future. But if we as a whole take initiative, create content, and become more open to new players, chances of making Blockland great again (excuse the joke) are much higher.

I'm planning on putting up my island cap points TDM within the next week or so. Hopefully that'll add some of the variety to the server list people seem to want. Also, B4B has the upcoming Brick Tactical TDM too, which is coming along nicely.
