Off Topic / Considering replacing my profile picture
« on: December 26, 2009, 01:32:41 PM »
I am considering replacing the icon I am using in the upper left hand corner of this post with a shrunken down version of this:

Do you guys think I should do it or keep my current profile picture?

Gallery / Flag of Israel
« on: November 11, 2009, 02:39:37 AM »
Here is a flag of Israel. Finished in a single session on DarthVolga's KC server, this flag is 160×220 studs.

As always, ratings out of 10 are appreciated.

Gallery / Flag Guy's Back!
« on: November 08, 2009, 09:30:43 PM »
I made this on DarthVolga's KC server over a period of some days or weeks. (The server was rarely up.)

All dimensions calculated for a flag 120×200 studs.

DarthVolga's server is up right now for those who want to see it in person.

Suggestions & Requests / Deletion duplicator
« on: September 15, 2009, 10:17:26 PM »
A particular idea I got while painstakingly improving my massive flag: What if there was a duplicator where it placed the series of bricks, and any brick that gets in the way gets deleted? It would certainly make my replacement work a lot faster and easier, rather than spending several minutes replacing a singe flawed star with a single corrected one by going through, brick by brick!

Suggestions & Requests / Weegee Face Print
« on: August 09, 2009, 01:47:19 AM »
A small, random idea I just had.

I saw a few pictures in Google of Weegee's front. That or using the tradition Weegee face would work wonders as well as be fairly humorous on servers that have it.

Help / Constant crashing on some servers
« on: July 24, 2009, 02:10:28 AM »
Sometimes when a server loads, it crashes for no apparent reason. The souce window says something about data, shapes, black or something along those lines. I have experienced this on at least 3 servers now. What is the problem, and how can I fix it?

Drama / Imposters

A number of you might know of these: People that carry a name a letter or symbol off, swapping letters, etc. Well, I caught one just now. Have a look:

Hopefully we can do something about sad little trolls like these.

Off Topic / Funny/pointless "Let Me Google That For You"s

You may know of a sight known as lmgtfy.com, which generates an animation along with a redirection for those who are too lazy to gtmf.

I figured that this website could be used for many funny, random, and pointless searches.

Take for instance:

It's a poor one, but actually a good intro to this thread. You people can probably come up with better ones.

Here's a classic: http://tinyurl.com/m8m7ka

Off Topic / RMS's ton o' flags
« on: July 14, 2009, 10:41:31 PM »
An item I've had my eye on just arrived in the mail today! It is a collection of all 27 official US flags to date as 4"×6" stick flags. Here is the least shaky pic I could take from head level, with all of them on a makeshift stand:

Now I can wave the 48-star flag acting like WWII just barely ended, or the 46 star flag like Titanic just sank, or the 36-star flag, acting like Lincoln just got shot, or the 15 star, 15 stripe flag and sing the Star Spangled Banner!

Suggestions & Requests / BattleTanx: Global Assault tanks
« on: July 13, 2009, 04:19:47 AM »
Some of you might have played a special little gem on the Nintendo 64 known as BattleTanx: Global Assault. You may recall the theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gD0PAUEjB4g), which always seemed to put you in the mood for getting into the biggest freaking tank you can find and blow crap up.

While listening to the theme and playing Blockland, that very feeling came over me. Unfortunately, the host did not have the Abrams, and the normal tank was not enough to achieve the full yearn.

Then I got the idea.

Those who played the game should remember the unique and dynamic tanks in the game. you can read about them at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BattleTanx:_Global_Assault. As you can see, each tank has strengths and weaknesses, as well as some which practically seem to exist for the sole purpose of taking out certain other tanks (like the Inferno on the Rhino). It's practically a massive, complex, convoluted game of rock, paper, scissors. This may be part of the reason it's so fun.

Bringing back this game's good memories gave me this idea:

Make the BattleTanx tanks as vehicles for Blockland! There is no feeling more triumphant than rolling through the streets as a Goliath (or, less probably for making it into bl, Annihilator), crushing and/or blowing up anything in or near your path!

Some of these would be entertaining to see scripted, like the strafing on the FLP-E tank. If possible, though, it would definately pay off.

In fact, if it is possible, adding the items, making it a full mod, would probably make it even better!

It would be a new spin/twist on Blockland tank battles.

You can use the game (good luck getting it), videos, and/or an emulator to get a look at the tank models.

Creativity / The Evolution of the US flag - all 27 changes
« on: June 23, 2009, 04:32:48 AM »
Here we have 2 gifs. The first is 1,000 frames long and does not loop. The second was created later with the flag at half the dimensions, 200 frames, and loops. They show all 27 changes in the official US flag to date from June 14, 1777, when the flag was first adopted, to the present. The first was too large for photobucket, so it's on deviant art. The second, though, is small enough for photobucket to host.

Look up the official historic flags if you want to know more information.

All flags included in those gifs never go out of date and are legal to be flown at any time.

Off Topic / What if: Real life Mouse Trap
« on: June 20, 2009, 09:47:43 PM »
When I look at a game of Mouse Trap, I sometimes think and wonder, "What would it be like if that setup were to actually some how result and occur in real life?"

What kind of screwed up, random series of events would have that outcome? With a boot hanging from a pole swinging off an old light pole, a bath tub under a diving board which ended up with a ball on it with both fixtures on top of a tower of pipes, a man on a seesaw with a circular cub behind him which is attached to a toothed pole with a bottomless cage with a hole in the top, etc., all within that proximity and height relative to each other?

I want to hear your little ideas and made up stories. Think of this as a game.

This should be entertaining....

Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

Using stats from Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Us_flag#Specifications), supported by USflag.org (http://www.usflag.org/flag.specs.html), I was able to apply the specs for a 1×1.9 unit flag to a 1,000×1,900 stud flag in Blockland!

This means this is the largest, most accurate United States flag in Blockland.

No guess work went into this thing, not even for the stars!

The closest thing I came to guesswork here was using Microsoft Paint to create a circle with a diameter of 62 studs for a template for the stars.

Here is the full flag:

For an idea of this flag's size, here is my avatar on a section of the flag:

Not changing position in any way, here is my avatar on the full flag:

This flag also ended up in a position where it loads cleanly in the Bedroom as will as with Titanic.

Here is the flag's underside in the Bedroom:

Another special thing about its flag is that it has its own color slot for a unique pallet, containing dark red, white, and navy blue.

Brick count: 19,173

Some specifications:

Hoist (width): 1,000 studs
Fly (length): 1,900 studs
Length of a thin stripe: 1,140 studs
Width of a stripe: 77, except the middle (7th) one, which is 76
Diameter of a star: 62 studs
