Games / Re: Grand Theft Auto Megathread - OP 3.0
« on: March 13, 2016, 04:38:42 AM »
GTA Online is the single worst online experience I've ever had.

I've already had to slogged my way to Level 12, and I can't progress any further thanks to a multitude of failures on the behalf of Take-Two/Rockstar. Here's the situation and the additional things that frustrate me;

1) Very few people post missions (I've joined with as many crews as possible in the hopes I'd get more), and if I go join a mission:
- Nobody else joins and the host leaves
- The host leaves during the setup
- GTA Online gives me a generic network error and boots me to GTA V
- The lobby is already full so I can't join
2) If I post a mission and invite everybody, especially the double RP ones, nobody loving joins.
3) Players love to go around and randomly kill you. I've been lucky enough to live long enough to put my money in the bank, but still.
4) Aircraft don't loving spawn unless you're level 20. That's loving bullstuff and there's not a single reason for this.
5) RB2K made me a modded car; I wasn't allowed to mod it or put in my garage.
6) At Level 12, I can't access any vehicle mods except "20% Armour Plating". Wow, that sure makes me want to play the game give the wide selection of choice! I can't even change the body shape or colours!

The only reason I push myself to play this handicapped game more is so that I'm not so feature-less when I play with my friends who are all 100+ and have everything unlocked, and I'm not going to ruin the fun of the group by forcing them into stuffty missions which only I need for ranking.

It's so extremely disappointing to have a great experience like GTA V, and then be so let down and disappointed by the Online component. Everybody on the planet hyped it up for me, and my expectations were completely true; this game blows unless you played from Day 1.

The only good thing about him is his bird avatar.

The sound is fine when the volume is low but the more I turn it up, the more the audio is distorted. Any idea what that could indicate?
A speaker is made of multiple components. Distortion at loud volumes sounds like possibly the cone or spider might have been shifted or split, and so as the volume increases and more power is output and there's higher vibrations, everything goes loving haywire.

I'm likely wrong, though. I'm not an expert, just making an educated guess based on my own speakers/headphones breaking.

My Swedish friend was so proud of his Sony Xperia Z3 because of the water resistance factor. He would spent a lot of time bragging about how, so long as you close up the port doors, that phone would loving survive the ocean.

He was apparently showing off to his girlfriend and, with the doors closed, dropped the phone into a tub of water. That forgetin' thing had to be serviced, and eventually he just upgraded instead.

For your issue, without disassembling the phone it'd be tricky. Speakers are temperamental little bastards. You could try using a hair-dryer to dry the phone further, but I would think the phone is plenty dry by now and that the actual issue is probably one of the pieces being damaged.

Off Topic / Re: real talk: is college education worth it?
« on: March 13, 2016, 12:29:40 AM »
Depends on the college you go to.

75% of what I've learned (and what I'm "learning) in my GAME DESIGN course is not applicable to me because it was all about film production and drawing. There was only ONE programming class that covered the same basics that I had learned in the 2 week holiday before the class. Every other games class was fine as there was a lot of interesting theory, and the business/philosophy/psychology classes were also very handy.

The point is that college education itself is not enough, but if you get a good place, you'll be far above the skill level of most people in your respective industry.

McDonalds. I wasn't good enough looking for the front, so I was in the back. 90% of the time I was the chef (both fried and the hotplate), but I also held the record for the fastest turn-around on the burger assembly line.

Unless I'm mistaken, POV-Ray. It's the LEGO community's favourite little rendering tool apparently, because they're the only people I see use it.
