So when somebody on my server says something extremely tribal I'll be oppressing them and taking away their freedom of speech when I ban them?
There's a difference between censorship and banning richardheads.

mcjob and whatnot are calling me triggered
Yes, because I totally called you "triggered" and, beyond saying the hashtag itself, have actually used the word "triggered".

I'm debating why I think the backlash is stupid. Yeah, there's absolute loving stuffrichards posting all kinds of crap. That doesn't mean everybody involved is an idiot, nor does it mean the whole message behind this thing is stupid.

The point is that censorship is ridiculous, because all you're doing is avoiding the problems rather than trying to address them. The problems are still going to exist, no matter how much you "wish them away" or try to create false problems to block out the real ones.

Which is the truth; there are many islander cultures that have none of the qualities of a true civilised society. Even Africa isn't yet civilised given the significant crime and health problems that plague the country. Would you want to live in a country where there is a huge problem with violence? I believe we can say that there's still quite an unfortunately savage part to that population which needs to be addressed before they can become civilised.

Not exactly true, but in the majority of cases obesity is caused by poor diet, sleep, exercise etc, and perpetuating your obesity problem rather than addressing it can be seen as your fault.

Completely true (regardless of the end insult). While there are situations where it's applicable, abortion is not something people should do "because they can" or to "empower" themselves. It's a horrible process.

I guess satire goes right over your head.

Cyberbulling is essentially the use of technology to accomplish standard bullying, which is a long string of personal attacks made by an individual at another individual for various motivations.

This isn't "cyberbullying". No specific individuals are being constantly bashed on. This is a group of people detailing their opinion on why certain ideas are stupid. Yeah, there's a couple of idiots who will take this too far and post some really horrible stuff, but there's also people in the SJW community who are complete nuts.

You can't decry an entire social media "event" (for lack of a better word) simply because you feel like it's a personal attack even though nobody has directly launched anything at you. If it bothers you so much, do what most normal people do and LOG OUT.

Games / Re: Advertisements in videogames

I have no problem with realistic games incorporating advertising into their world space (like the Burger-King NFS example or the NBA example), so long as it makes sense and doesn't distract or take away from the game experience (like a pop-up ad).

In some cases I really like it, as I feel more in tune with the world (for lack of a better phrase).

This is fantastic. Unfortunately, this isn't the way to convince these ridiculous idiots that their viewpoint is wrong; all it's going to do is make a lot of people angry.

The person who said "Maybe your problem is that you're not very smart, talented or attractive and society is pretty much OK. #TheTriggering" (Plippy McGee/@Plipster) had it right. Basic psychology mandates that when we find something contrary to our opinion, it's far easier to distort the truth and then actively and aggressively disagree than it is to change ourselves to fit the new information.

there was a document?
If that was sarcasm, it's 5:39AM and I've been up since 4AM, so it's flown right over my head.

If not, Headcrab Zombie linked a document which is in the quote in my post. It specifically mentions;

Quote
Gender: refers to the attitudes, feelings, and behaviors that a given culture associates with a person’s biological love. Behavior that is compatible with cultural expectations is referred to as gender-normative; behaviors that are viewed as incompatible with these expectations constitute gender non-conformity.

Gender identity: refers to “one’s sense of oneself as male, female, or transgender” (American Psychological Association, 2006). When one’s gender identity and biological love are not congruent, the individual may identify as transloveual or as another transgender category (cf. Gainor, 2000).

I'm not sure what "transgender categories" exist, but I'm certain that they're probably not as crazy or wild as some people out there who want to be special would have us believe.

Also note that credible groups like the American Psychological Association give seperate definitions of the terms
Funny how the professional definitions match exactly what I've been saying; it's a binary choice (with the exception being hermaphrodites when it comes to physical love).

So, over the past two days I began implementing an EXTREMELY simple AI system. Here's what I've got (from the Game Dev megathread):

VacBot, the cute little yellow cube, is based on this task-based system I've been working on. Aside from the fact he's extremely simple (he can only move forward and left), he also doesn't yet implement all the functionality I want for my AI system, but right now the way he works:

1) On the first update, he gives himself a task to complete ("Move Forward", assigning tasks will later be completed by another system).
2) Every task returns a bool on if it's complete or not (for example, Move Forward will only be complete if he's reached the end in this instance), and Task Manager uses the return value to say if we need to re-add the task to the task list so it can be processed again.
3) Every time we do a Move Forward task, a simple raycast is done in front to determine if there's an obstacle. If one is detected, the Move Forward task returns false and instead manually adds the "Clear Obstruction" task to the list.
4) Clear Obstruction performs a move operation to the left and then does three raycasts to determine we're not touching anything. I'm using only three because this example means he's only ever going to be going forward.
5) When Clear Obstruction finally stops repeating, the system will auto-assign Move Forward to the task list, and the cycle continues until it reaches the goal.

This thing is AI because it's dynamic. I can add as many obstacles as I want at any point, and he'll (almost) correctly handle that. There's a LOT of work to go from here, but I'm super happy I got the basic roots of task-based AI down (using delegates, since Unity/C# don't support function pointers).

EDIT: Should be noted; the task-list is a stack. The idea is that higher priority tasks are added at the top and completed before lower-priority tasks. In the end I'll likely change this, but the behaviour is working well for now. I'm also using single-parameter delegates for my tasks, although I will likely change this to be zero-parameter, instead using class variables where possible. I'm still working out the semantics as I go.
