The whole point is that the Krogan have a load of redundant organs as backups, so if their primary organs are harmed they still have something to go back to. Their home world, Tuchunka, is a vicious place, and even without the Genophage a lot of Krogan youth wouldn't survive the wastes, so being horny organic brick stuffhouses is literally a requirement for them.
