Windows 10 will be free for 1 year for Windows 7 and 8.1. After that you will require to pay a subscription.

a microsoft employee already clarified this.. multiple times, saying that as long as you upgrade within a year of it's release you will have a valid windows 10 license forever.
which means it will be free.
completely free. forever. unless you wait an entire year after it releases this fall for whatever reason
