putting this in big text because I feel like some people are missing an important point;
Before ANY big sales or anything that occurs that will attract more [new] players, the game NEEDS to be made more new-player-friendly.
Like seriously, this needs to happen if we don't want first time players (who normally walk into these games completely blind) to get confused, we need to make the game more friendly to new players. I've seen several ideas mentioned on how to do this, and want to drop my two cents on them.
Tutorial
Honestly imo the tutorial covers enough information to get players started. The problem is most of the new players don't know where it is. The tutorial button needs to be re-added.
Also; I suggest removing the multiplayer option for the tutorial to avoid confusion? What do you think?
Better, more attention grabbing (and fun) servers?
This isn't something that's easy, but I feel like the community should start pitching together to make some cool servers. They should also be a bit more new player friendly, like maybe a button that greets new players and gives them tips, simple stuff like that. idk just throwing out ideas, like Ike said we need more good, high-quality servers to keep players coming back for more.
Steam Workshop
New content is also a neat idea, but with the add-ons community it's not needed. What IS needed is Steam Workshop, since a lot of our new players are gonna come from Steam, it's a huge step in letting them modify their game easier!
Workshop is also a huge boost for the add-ons community too.
I also like a few of you, think that a new engine / entirely new game, would be a good option, but ISN'T going to happen. No one is going to revamp all add-ons and certainly badspot isn't going to take his indie game, which he made as a hobby(?), and totally redo it.
