To put it simply, don't be a kissass and don't get on people's bad sides. As of right now, you being as nice as you are, probably won't. Also--You should really forward your ports as soon as possible. You should also read all of the stickies on the Forum Subsections. Not to mention, you should also get RTB, as most of the "nicer" people have it. I'm sure Ephialtes, or maybe even Kaje (with a lot o' luck) would give you some tips. One huge thing you should know, is if you're going to make Add-Ons (tools/items/weapons/etc, in game for extra "fun") you should start out simple--Decals or faces.. But try MS3D, (Milk Shape 3D) A program for modeling. There are a lot of tutorials on making add-ons on the RTB forums--I find them simpler and easier to understand, and they've helped me greatly in modeling.

The best tip for not getting banned is to disable the chat if you are under 10 years old. 

I agree and disagree with that--In some servers, the dumbass leaders tend to be pissed if one doesn't talk. ._.
But then again, if a server sucks, why be there anyway? :D
