Off Topic / A Youtuber started off a series "Dead Games" with Blockland
« on: November 17, 2016, 07:14:51 AM »
I went on Blockland's Youtube Gaming page and this was literally the first thing in Popular.

So, according to our host General Red, who actually played Blockland back in 2008, the game is dead.

Right when he was saying a bit about Blockland's he said that Blockland started like a Lego-like game. Not too wrong, until he says Lego sued Badspot so he had to change the whole look and that's what brought us to retail.

Apparently the server browser had a lot more servers and wouldn't stop loading servers but since right then there are only 76 servers and 175 players online... Everyone's dead, Dave.

Also, all that's left of Blockland now is "crazy little kids". Enough of my commentary though - I'll let you be the judge for the rest.

Watch it here.

Some servers have events like OnBotDetectAlly and OnBotDetectEnemy. I can't seem to find those anywhere though. Does anyone have them?

Also, if anyone can, please make a OnBotKill event that triggers when a bot kills, because it wasn't ever made AFAIK.

Off Topic / Had an awkward talk over a really pessimistic guy
« on: November 09, 2016, 11:06:54 AM »
So I was playing a game and I asked a guy called Nebri how they was. They said they were doing better before the US election results came up. That's when someone with the handle 'dunhamgames" starts saying very awkward, pessimistic things.

Look at the chatlog here. Then, discuss.

Names in the pastebin:
Error 305: Cannot load username - Me
dunhamgames - The really pessimistic guy
Nebri - Person who was "relieved" by above guy
strokeontent - Someone who just came at the last moment

Help / Posting to master server throws errors
« on: October 12, 2016, 06:52:18 AM »
When I try to host a server wireless, it works perfectly fine without even having a static IP.

When I try to host a server with ethernet cable connected to router, I get errors "unknown command delete" and "unknown command connect" every time the game attempts to post to master server.

Is there a fix which is not going wireless?

Off Topic / What games on Steam are worth buying?
« on: October 01, 2016, 05:47:43 AM »
For the longest time, I didn't know all I had to do to get money on Steam without Paysafecard is get a Steam gift card. Anyway, I've done just that, but I am clueless as to what game I should get.

Do you have any ideas?

My budget is 10 euros/11.20 US Dollars, and funny jokes are acceptable as long as they are funny. (This means Bad Rats and "off" are right out.)

Off Topic / Marios Looks Back On His Past
« on: September 24, 2016, 12:33:33 PM »
Blockland. An indie game. Which was noticed by Lego and attempted to be bought by them. A dynasty lasting about 8 years or so, in spite of a billion trillion people believing it's over. An actually good game you'll keep coming back to eventually.

But how did I get here?

Well, since this is the weekend, I have the time to see it now. My longest journey up to the point where I became a recognized Blocklander, or perhaps "advanced friend", but hey, that's an upgrade either way.

So, the aforementioned journey lasted long. Or, at least for my standards, if you don't consider one year a long time. Looking at the entirety of my story will take a long time, so I'll have to look on the most important parts.

Here, is my past.

The Beginning
More to come?

The Beginning

I began with a welcome topic. After all, doesn't that happen in most forums/fora? Not in the Blockland Forums. They are different. Different, in the sincere sense, not in any heartless sarcastic one.
But how different? Different in the sense of 4Chan for kids except it's a forum? Or perhaps different in the sense of being the true Hell incarnate?

Not entirely sure how that question can be answered objectively, but, nevertheless, that question is actually related to my welcome topic.

So, let's have a look on it.

I wrote my few paragraphs there to introduce myself, along with implications that I may know something more than the average new guy. However, I did not truly know the people, because the only way to do so is interact with them. The thread would be a great opportunity to interact, wouldn't it? Hopefully it was.

The first reply was "Welcome to HECK." Today, I don't agree with the third word, but back then I had been worried that was true.
The second reply was "Remeber, you're here forever." Can't really say they're wrong. But the person who brought the second reply would turn out to be the same person striving out on his way to prove I am not a new person, but in fact an old person's sockpuppet.
Third reply was the first useful one, and accurate one. I'm not quoting it here, because it's not just a single phrase. It did help me with navigating myself through the forum a bit.
Though I should be talking about the rest of the thread in short, the fourth reply was the first negative one, worthy of featuring. "what the heck" it was.

The rest of the first page was me being welcomed into the forum, or getting warned about its community. It was also someone getting tricked by my fake "alternative account" link, the classic "redirect to your own profile" trick. People have been tricked by that for long before I came, and it still worked wonders.

The first alternative account suspicion was that I were Betelgeuse. I also sounded "awfully annoying", and apparently had a plan to wait five months just to not be considered an alternative account. I was then given a quote pack I never actually used, and I also exclaimed out loud I had Asperger's Syndrome (also known as High Functioning Autism, whatever that means.)

My first mistake was... right on the second page of the welcome thread. I became aggressive all too fast and tried to make fun of Pie Crust. That's when my alternative account likability went high up. How can he know about who Pie Crust is, and his dog 'child-making' incident?

Moving on to the third page. A person who never posted anything else ever again was happy about people named "Mario" joining the forums, and I further proved I was awfully annoying. I also notice that the person to whom I sounded awfully annoying used the word "awfully" an awfully large amount of times. That's awfully weird.
I was able to relate to someone else with autism, whether the internet rendition of it or the real autism, and I turned out to have found out about Blockland Forums matters because a friend linked me there.
Original research. Is that ever a thing?

Anyway, I went on to be more active outside of my welcome thread and had a disagreement. That's when my likability of being an alternative account increased even further. A second person was glad about having a coder around the field, and I had a little banter with the person I tried to make fun of. Another person said the best way to enter the forums is to just start posting, so that nobody thinks anything about you then.
Well, I didn't want to just appear from the shadows. Though I could, since they were added before I joined the forums. Amiright?

[Cue Rimshot]

Someone else wished me luck, and another person told me "hi alt" expecting a response in the lines of "hi X i'm alt" most likely. Another person warned me that generically linking to the profile thingamajig would redirect people to their own page. You don't say! Either that, or that was an implication that I was an alternative account.

The welcome thread is nearing its end, as my chance of being an alt has reached cloud nine. The Black Badger finds that I have an abstract piece of knowledge without being aware himself that I was given the knowledge earlier in the thread. Regulars place bets regarding whose alt I am, and people get tricked by my fake profile link Houdini magic. Only a single person with a bright avatar had awareness of the trick I made, making fun of everyone who is outsmarted by it.

The final posts are here, and the end of the beginning is near. I am warned I can't leave the forums after entering, and that I will get severe autism from the forum. Problem being, I already had autism before entering the forum. Minor derailment occurs, and then the last two folks find I was their alt all along.

This is when the thread stopped getting any new posts, and it is also when the beginning has ended.

But the ending has not began.

More to come?

Do you like this concept? Should I keep telling the story of my digital life? Vote on the poll, and post your opinion! This will only be interesting if you are also interested.

So, I have managed over the course of a year and a half to accumulate 1338 posts! Woo!

Unfortunately, I wasted my leet post at YLYL, so instead I saved my 1338th for this occasion! Yay!

Am I a real Blocklander now?

General Discussion / Anyone remember Blockland Turmoil?
« on: September 05, 2016, 01:22:58 PM »
It was a cool Half-Life-ish gamemode! You began in a broken tutorial which you had to fight through, occasionally finding another blockhead who was playing the tutorial at the time and has access to all tools. After you get through the tutorial's ruins, you discover that Badspot has been kidnapped by someone and you are the only one who can do anything about it!

If that doesn't ring a bell, maybe this will!

Add-Ons / Freeze Tag Playertypes Ver. 1.2.0 [Update Finally Here!]
« on: September 01, 2016, 08:08:55 PM »
Hey, hey, hey, it's my first released addon!

Have you enjoyed playing Freeze Tag back in Roblox when you were younger? Well, maybe you never actually even played Roblox. But whatever, here come three playertypes so that you can play Freeze Tag with ease!

Freeze Tagger
Can click on Untaggers to make them fine ice statues.
Runs (and accelerates) 60% faster than the normal player.
Jumps 30% higher than the normal player.
Has 25% air control as opposed to 10% air control of the normal player, which is enough to strafe in the air.
Moving while standing is just as fast as moving while crouching.

Freeze Untagger
Can click on Frozen players to make them into plastic again.
Is otherwise identical to the Tagger, but runs (and accelerates) 50% faster instead of 60% faster than the normal player. Run, Forrest, run!

Frozen Player
Is a fine ice statue that can crouch, speak, shake its arms, turn around, but cannot move.
All it can do is try and help the Untaggers not get caught by Taggers it can see (via communication) and wait to get unfrozen.
Also, it has forced third person view.

Every playertype has forced third person and disabled jets in common.

Pictures
And now, footage of a demonstration!
Size of the images reduced intentionally so that the post isn't too long. Original image resolution 800x600.

These are the materials I will use for the demonstration of the addon. At the left, a bot Untagger ready to be frozen and unfrozen. At the right, a black brick to become a Tagger, a white brick to become an Untagger, and a good old red brick to become an ordinary blockhead.

The HUD is intentionally visible in the screenshots, you will find out why later.

Because the bot is not currently frozen, becoming an Untagger now is pointless. So, I've chosen the blue pill- uh, black brick and became a Tagger. This also put me in third person. Not anymore. Though third person helps for understanding things, so I won't update the pics.

I go up to the bot, tag it, then back off so that you can have a good view at it. As you can see, I now have a message confirming I tagged someone, and the bot is a distinct ice statue. The message shows the name of the person you tagged too, it doesn't do that now because I didn't give the bot a name.

Now I turn into an Untagger via the white brick and unfreeze the bot. I have another message stating I have untagged someone, and the bot is back to normal.

After the torture the poor thing has gone through, I use the red brick to become normal, run up to the bot and hug it so that it feels better.

There are also messages for being the person yourself that gets tagged and untagged, but there was a shortage in playtesters for the final version of the addon, and bots don't know how to play Freeze Tag, so they cannot be shown.

Thanks To...
TableSalt, for suggesting something that didn't exist already and was within my capabilities
The dump() function, which helped with finding all the variables and functions I needed
Zapk, for happening to have a handy raycast script in his OnActivate expansion addons I know he is banned alright
Shift Kitty, for telling me how to make immobile players not slide away

P.S. The addon has plenty of comments included if you wanna check out how it works!

Off Topic / The Overwatch loveuality Discussion Topic
« on: September 01, 2016, 04:05:24 PM »
This may be just my own opinion or perhaps even more pointless than a Blogland post with just 4 paragraphs, but whatever - here goes:

Blizzard has encouraged fans of Overwatch to make artistic content based on the game.

Sounds good!

Quote from: Wikipedia
To support this, Blizzard released the hero reference kit before release, providing official colors and costume and weapon designs for all 21 heroes present at the game's launch. Fans have used these, the game's animated media, and other assets to create a large amount of content, including art, cosplay,

and anime opening-style music videos.

Is that Wikipedia lingo for YouTube Poop Music Video/MaD?

Quote from: Wikipedia
Some Overwatch concepts have created internet memes such as "Gremlin D.Va", which focuses on the character D.Va, portrayed through gamer stereotypes.

As can be expected from the internet.

Quote from: Wikipedia
There also exists researchographic fan art of the game,

Well, rule 34, as can be-

with researchhub searches of Overwatch characters partaking in loveual activities spiking by 817% shortly after the release of the open beta.

Blizzard made efforts to remove the works. Game director Jeffery Kaplan stated that while they do not want to infringe on anyone's freedom of expression, Blizzard is mindful that many players are teenagers or younger and would hope the community would try to keep such imagery away from them.

...Well, that's that. At least it wasn't robot research, right?

...Oh wait...

So, I suppose this is where /discuss comes.

And, before I forget, the source.

Help / What port does Blockland use by default, and can I change it?
« on: August 24, 2016, 01:10:06 PM »
So, I have known how to port forward for a while (my router has absolutely nothing like a "Port Forward" tab, and there wasn't any valid guide for my own router, so it was not immediately obvious.) I believe Port Forwarding will result in better connections than Universal Plug and Play, and thus I want to use it on Blockland.

However, the port I've forwarded to is probably not what Blockland looks for. The final sentence is the title of the thread.

100 hours in Blockland and 1013 posts in the forums later, I got a big break playing anything else.

Have I missed anything big?

Urgent Edit: Great Scott! How many new names in the forums are there?
