Games / Infinity
« on: November 24, 2009, 01:44:21 PM »
http://www.infinity-universe.com/Infinity/

Infinity is a massively multiplayer online game set in a persistent futuristic universe, currently in development.

Infinity features an advanced procedural engine allowing for a seemingly infinite galaxy of unique star systems and planets to discover and explore, including seamless planetary landing. Infinity offers new and existing players an extensive storyline following the complex and often intricate political and social interactions of hundreds of corporations, organizations, and reputation groups through the games three primary factions: the Centauran, the Deltan Federation, and the Star Fold Confederacy.

Infinity employs an open-ended world design, in which a player can control everything from a small shuttle to massive military dreadnaught, a single mining operation to an entire vast corporate empire, all without having to change characters. A completely player-skill based game design, Infinity sheds the need for character classes and skills by embracing self-balance over arbitrary limitation, allowing players to choose their own path to make their name across the galaxy.

Although all players are expected to act in concordance with their personal motivations, Infinity is not a traditional role playing game. The actions of a single player greatly affect the evolution of their character. Your character might grow from their humble beginnings as a young military officer to become the master of a vast corporate empire, or even a wanted mercenary and pirate.

The game mechanics do not emphasize any particular game play style - combat, trade, exploration, social relationships, you are free to choose your own path and goals. Players can choose from a number of interesting character backgrounds that serve as your characters personal history, circumstances, and setting in the Infinity universe to help ground new players in their new boundless horizon of stars. The only limit is your own imagination!

Combat in Infinity functions in real-time, utilizing Newtonian physics to control the fluid realistic movements of player ships and objects. Where the outcome of combat is determined by your own intelligence and reflexes. Not the level and class of another player!

Like all massively multiplayer online (MMO) games, you will connect to an online server shared by thousands of other players at any time. But, unlike other MMOs, the Infinity universe is an entirely persistent. The actions of your characters do not stop when you log off - as the actions of your characters continue to progress and evolve, even while you are offline.

By utilizing the advanced procedural techniques of the I-Novae Engine, Infinity has unshackled itself from the limitations of its forbearers, allowing for the dynamic generation of countless star systems and planets, each unique and awaiting to be discovered by a player. Drawing upon plausible astronomic scales and distances of stellar objects, the precise orbital path of every celestial body is modeled, as each planet and star moves continuously within the galaxy. Allowing players to glimpse the double sunrise of a binary star system on some distant rocky world, to the total eclipse of a tiny moon orbiting a massive gas giant thousands of light years from your home planet - every vista, every horizon is wholly unique in Infinity.

Oh wait that's me.

Anyways, gmod 5 dollar week is still going, and strangely enough, I CAN'T BUY IT. I already have TF2, which i bought on disc, so the source game is covered.

I'd very much appreciate if somebody could please gift me garry's mod. I probably sound like a desperate loser posting this on the forum, but i really am not able to buy it myself.

Off Topic / [Tutorial] Epic lighting in Blender
« on: September 06, 2009, 04:41:05 PM »
This tutorial will teach you how to apply lighting quickly and accurately into your blender scenes realistically.

Step 1. Delete the default lamp and camera, and create a plane.

Step 2. Create a cube, and then create an ICO sphere (I used a UV sphere) with a subdivision of 2.

Step 3. Give the ICO Sphere a material, go into the shaders panel, and move the Emit slider to the maximum.

Step 4. Move the ICO Sphere to a suitable position to be the scene's "sun". Then, go to the materials panel, then to the radiosity panel.

Step 5. Select every object in the scene, and press the button with the label "Collect Meshes".

Step 6. Press the button labeled GO, and the scene will begin lighting. Since we have not tweaked any settings and this is a basic scene, the lighting should be over very quickly. You are now left with a scene with blocky but true textures.

Step 7. Press the button labeled "Gour". This blends the textures, and the blocky look of the lights.

Ignore any steps past this if you do not wish to render your scene.

Step 8. Press the button called "Replace meshes", and then press "Free Radio Data"

Step 9. Create a new camera, position it, and hit F12!

Note: I will get around to putting pictures below the steps in img tags tomorrow, but for now they're attachments.

Suggestions & Requests / Bricks to Interior?
« on: August 30, 2009, 11:07:22 AM »
It'd be truly remarkable if there was a button to convert all of the bricks that you've seen and loaded/rendered OR the bricks inside of a save file, into an interior. This would allow you to create builds that are stuck in a map permanently, unless you go into mission editor and remove these bricks. It would also let you light the build with the maps lights, and if you had placed lights or emitters in the build, these would also appear with the interior, and would light objects as well.

This might seem like a stupidly impossible idea, but it would be, as i said, truly remarkable if anybody could do this.

Suggestions & Requests / Seamless Area Portals.
« on: August 23, 2009, 09:31:04 AM »
Before you read the wall of text, please note I AM NOT looking for onplayertransform, unless you're willing to give me version 2 of onplayertransform or show me where to find it.

Now, if you've been playing on blockland for a while and have an ID around or below 1500, you might have been on qwertyuiopas' endless stairs server. When outside, the building with the staircase seemed relatively small, but you could trek up and up and up and you would never ever find the top, then you would go down for 5 seconds and immediately hit the bottom. This was because he had made an addon that would let you place two linked area portals in the mission editor. Later on, he converted it to bricks, and added an endless hallway to the collection. Even later on, he added a maze where one wrong turn put you back at the beginning (seamlessly of course)

He had told me multiple times that it was very simple and after constant nagging, he finally told me he would release it. He never did. And now, he seems to have completely disappeared from the very face of the earth. Off of retail. Off of steam. Off of MSN. Off of everything.

So, I am asking you, the forums, to help me complete this long search. If it really is simple, then I would greatly, greatly appreciate it if someone could release it as an addon. And if you have it or know where somebody would find it, I would also appreciate it if there was a link.

tl;dr i want an addon that lets you place two linked area bricks that seamlessly teleport to eachother.

Games / Desktop Tower Defense

Have any of you heard of this neat little game made by handdrawngames? It's a lot of fun, and I've gotten really addicted to the DS version. You can play it over at http://www.handdrawngames.com

Basically, you build turrets to stop the multiple types of creep from reaching their goal, which is the other side of the screen, or desk if you will. That's all for now!

Forum Games / Blender City
« on: June 20, 2009, 03:57:20 PM »
Hey! I'm sure that a couple of you have heard of the freeware modeling program, "Blender", and I'm sure that some models with addons are made with it too. So, I wanted to start a community project called "Blender City", where we have an open .blend file and everybody is free to contribute their own addition to the city! I personally recommend you upload to mediafire or box, although any website will do. Also, if you feel like it, you're allowed to add lights/materials to objects, as well as applying your own textures.

The only rule is not to delete something without asking on the topic first, as it may be part of a larger part.

Also, if you don't have blender, you can download it over here.

Here's the most recent version of the city!

http://www.mediafire.com/?kowjxakjd22

Use that file to start the city! Also, i'll be adding my own contributions later in the thread.

It is URGENT that you post to say when you're working on something, so we don't end up with two people working at the same time! Not so much now.

Here's a render of the city currently.

General Discussion / Manual Lighting
« on: May 15, 2009, 11:19:14 AM »
Since this really isn't showing off a build, it wouldn't go in gallery and I couldn't find a better place to put it.

I've recently came up with a new idea for "Manual Lighting" where you manually paint blocks to make it look like they're being lit by a light source, which means you can do manual ambient occlusion, manual shadows, and if you're up for it, manual volumetric lighting. Of course, this will take time, and probably lots of it. I've put together a small build to show a very basic version done with the default paint set, although you could make it look a lot better I imagine.
