unless some technology comes along that allows you to transfer your consciousness and personality into some other form that effectively allows 'you' to exist after your old body has given up on you then you're going to cease to exist one day

Google is looking into it actually.

Even so if near death experience and out of body experiences exist then that means consciousness can exist out of the body but only if the brain is still alive. So I picture consciousness like a bluetooth device and the brain is the bluetooth adapter plugged into the body.

That is if out of body experiences are actually legit.

you are essentially your brain
your personality comes from your brain and with your personality comes the way you think, talk, dream, and act
once your brain stops doing what it does then 'you' get lost
the you that was there to dream and think before death is no longer there
sometimes when you wake up you don't recall having a dream and death is just like that but without the waking up part
