I was just thinking about your Trench Wars server a few days ago. This really takes me back. Thanks for releasing your old stuff, we all appreciate it!

General Discussion / TDM - Battle for Snowy Hills
« on: December 30, 2022, 09:49:09 PM »
It's back!

I will be hosting Battle for Snowy Hills tomorrow afternoon/evening.
It was updated a ton (turns out there were major event errors when I hosted last time, which have been fixed).

The original topic can be found here: https://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=321885.0
It has some more pictures that you may want to see.

I hope to see some of you there!

I was really looking forward to his procedural terrain generator update which would add a brush to manually sculpt terrain, as well as his Block Party game.

I listen to a lot of classical music, and some of the songs that I listen to were written by composers who rushed to get their music finished when they knew their time was coming. Not all of them could do it in time. This feels like that: an artist who couldn't finish his art.

I always have sympathy for those who couldn't finish the things they wanted to see through before they passed. They had just one request before they died, just one small and simple request, and they couldn't even have that. They weren't asking for the world, they weren't asking for money, they weren't asking for popularity, they just wanted to leave something complete behind.

It's not fair.

General Discussion / Re: how does everyone build so well
« on: July 25, 2022, 10:46:16 AM »
I was bad at building, but over the last several years I've made some builds that I'm very proud of. Being a perfectionist does NOT help at all. I don't participate in freebuilds or Fort Wars often because of this. I just can't make something on demand.

To remedy this, I actually devised two strategies. The first is recreating buildings or structures I see in real-life. The second is something I like to call "prototyping." I build something, typically a wall, hallway or structure of some sort, then I duplicate it over and over and make incremental changes, multiple designs, until I found something I absolutely love, or I just pick the best looking one. That's how I built the spawns and bases for Battle for Snowy Hills, and the spawn and weapon shop in my Trench Wars server that I plan on hosting soon. I can post some screenshots of this if you want.

General Discussion / Re: the stagnation of blockland
« on: April 13, 2022, 04:15:01 PM »
Circling back to the server hosting discussion, I got a few things up my sleeve.

There's a few servers out there for people that are already made. Hodot's big TDM comes to mind. The download doesn't work anymore, but I still have the files for it and the required add-ons in case anyone wants to try it out. I plan on releasing Snowy Hills for download, but I think people were right when they said the map was too big. Fighting would be so spaced out and people would quickly lose interest.

Meanwhile, my Trench Wars server seems far more promising.

Remember when Blockland and Roblox had a similar number of players?

Roblox literally has over 40 million players daily as of now.
Blockland can barely scratch 30.

General Discussion / Re: How in the hell are any of you still here?

I got "serious" about several years back. I would actually finish builds I started rather than leave them unfinished. I also planned on actually hosting servers. I'll upload Battle for Snowy Hills sometime this year so people can play on it. That build has a ton of potential, and I'm sure people would love to mess around in it. I plan on finishing up my Trench Wars server soon. I also began modelling and programming around that time, too, which really gave me a reason to stay. On top of that, I still occasionally have fun when a good server is up. I just don't plan on quitting anytime soon.

Add-Ons / Re: Weapon_AEBase
« on: April 10, 2022, 12:01:57 PM »
This is definitely one of the best weapon packs yet. I love the incorporation of static shape projectiles. I also find the customizability insane. I love how you can adjust the HUD style so that you can easily combine it with other weapon packs, and I love how you can switch the projectile types. I would probably place this somewhere in the top 5 best weapon packs ever made.

This build is amazing!

No I didnt use ptg for the terrain I hand made everything, it was much pain.
I know that feeling.

General Discussion / Re: What makes you stay?
« on: October 05, 2021, 07:02:11 PM »
I'm not the type of person that picks up a game only to never play it again. I just don't tend to get bored playing video games. I was always one of the first to join a server and one of the last to leave. I would spend maybe 2-4 times the amount of time on a server than the average player. I guess I have a high tolerance for repetition.

When I play a game for years, I don't usually stop playing it. I still play Pokémon Emerald regularly, a game I got when I was in kindergarten. I've spent so many hours on this game and I refuse to leave. I couldn't make myself leave even if I wanted to. I always had so much fun when I played this game. I look back fondly at all of the memories I made, and I have little to no regrets. I try my best to relive the glory days.

I'm currently making builds, 3d models, and learning how to script, which is definitely helping me stay interested.

I thought about starting a new topic where you post old screenshots and give the date, time, and the name of the server they were taken on. I think it would be a great way for the newer players to see what Blockland used to look like, and a chance for older players to remember things they may have forgotten.

We have 4 days until January 11th, make sure you save any MediaFire files that you wish to keep.

I'm currently looking at web crawlers, web scrapers, and link extractors that can help me find MediaFire links on the BLF. I downloaded a MediaFire bulk downloader that allows me to download multiple MediaFire files at once, so I do not have to manually download each individual one. I'm not sure if I'll be ready before the 11th, but I'm trying.

im not the one to contact about making archiving scripts. the one i made for blf was such a huge pain in the ass and i would very rather hand it off to someone else who    knows more about what tf theyre doing and is far more tolerant of the constant bullstuff they'll have to face
anyway i searched my blf db post contents for "mediafire.com" and it returned 15,610 results. gl to anyone out there wanting to tackle this because im not doing it
plus im pretty damn sure mediafire has already wiped a bunch of their old files. most links nowadays already return errors. rip

I would greatly appreciate it if you could send me the script.

Maybe I can take a shot at it. I have some old USB sticks that I can download some things to. However, I only really want to download vehicles and weapons, so I may just do those.

If nothing comes out of this, we may just need to rely off of suggestions and requests whenever we need an add-on that we can no longer find.
