Off Topic / I cannot stop watching these videos

For whatever reason, I find it absolutely hilarious to see people get trolled in games such as these.  I've done it myself, in such games as Project Reality and Resistance & Liberation.  To be a total jerk, and see people get so mad that they can't even think straight, is something I find very funny.  This guy (stgggs) has quite a few great videos, and he recently got a surge in popularity from having the above video featured on pcgamer.com and some other sites.

The best "targets" are the ones who seem to take everything on the internet seriously, such as everyone in this video.

I know this basically amounts to a "cool story bro" thread, but it's something that caught my fancy, and reminded me of the good old days when I did this kind of stuff on some older games.

Console gamers still, secretly, want to play on PCs.  So they try to stuff a PC in their console.

The bands are in alphabetical order.

Please listen to at least one song from each band, if not every song.  Bear in mind that I could possibly add to this, so don't consider it finished.  Also, I tried to pick lesser known songs, that's why, for example, there's no More Than A Feeling under Boston.  Too obvious.

Enjoy!

Off Topic / Best media player?
« on: January 05, 2011, 03:07:08 PM »
So, I'm looking to finally switch from iTunes, since it won't let me convert to mp3.

Basically, I just want opinions on which media player is best and why.

Preferably, I'd like a media player that categorizes the music like iTunes, with the ability to convert my music to mp3 (and not destroy the original) and be able to accept mp4 files from iTunes.

Yes, I have googled, and most publication's comparisons are really old.

Games / Last day of Steam Christmas Sale, what should I get?
« on: January 02, 2011, 06:41:37 PM »
The three games that I would like are Just Cause 2, GRID, and Lead & Gold: Gangs of the Wild West.  The question is, should I get them now or wait until the summer sale?

If you would like me to get one, explain why you like it.

Thanks in advance for participating.

So I recently got the Cubase 5 Trial to see if it's any good for my recently-built recording studio, and decided to record a few covers and see what the program can do.  I've made two such songs, and I'm posting them here for your torture enjoyment.  Just a reminder, I'm a total noob at this program, so the mixing and effects (let alone the recording quality) could use a lot of work.  Let me know what you think.

Quite possibly one of the most awesome things I've ever seen.

Some of you may remember my older servers, where I hosted overly complex evented TDMs, edited add-ons, etc.  Well, now that I've installed Blockland on the new computer, I've been trying to get another build together.

Basically, I'm making a mall.  Not for shopping, but it's going to be another TDM.  I really want to make a quality map to play on, and it seems that those are few and far between.

I started a day ago, and I'm working through the main build, but here's what I think I need help on:

The storefronts.  A quick google search shows what I'm talking about:

I'm going to host a contest of sorts, throughout most of this week, where you can come and build a store like the above on a 16x32 baseplate.

I hope to be hosting later today, but I don't know the exact time.

Here are the rules:

1. Must be on an available 16x32 baseplate.  It cannot protrude overtop of the boundaries, either.  Basically, I want to have these things be modular, able to place them anywhere I have a 16x32 space.
2. Must be at least 8 blocks high.  Nobody likes buildings that are as high as the player.
3. Must have walls on all sides, it has to be an enclosed structure.  You are building a store that (if it wasn't a TDM) people would be going into and shopping in.
4. Can only have entrances on one wide side.
5. Only one floor, please.  Can have a raised platform in one part of the store, though.

I will post when the server goes up.
Server is down.
Server name is "Mall Storefront Building Contest".

Please come in and build when it does, and the good ones will be placed in the final build, as stores in the mall.  Needless to say, I hope to get a lot of entries.

If you are interested in participating, please post here saying so, so that I have a good idea of how many people will be coming.

Thanks in advance.

General Discussion / Blockland and Windows 7 x64
« on: May 02, 2010, 07:52:25 PM »
I'm going to try to install Blockland tomorrow, but I have a few questions.

I've heard of some problems that Blockland has on Windows 7/Vista, and on 64-bit systems.  I've seen people say "install directly to C:/Blockland, and not Program Files".

What's the dealio?  Will it even work?  Any particular things I must do to make it work?

So far, I've had no problems with every game I've installed when they are installed in Program Files, as long as I run it as administrator.  Do I still need to make an exception for Blockland, and not install it in Program Files?

Has anyone else gotten Blockland to work on Windows 7 x64?  What methods did you use to get it to work?

Hopefully I can get back into the swing of things by tomorrow, but I don't really want to spend a day troubleshooting this, so thanks in advance if you can help me.

Sorry.

Well, basically, the "Memes" topic reminded me of MemeGenerator, and how easy it is to make your own image macro.  So, I decided to make a contest.

The winner is whoever gets the most votes for his image.

Rules:

1. You must be original.  Don't copy your favorite image macro from any other website, you must use MemeGenerator to make your own, original caption.

2. You must use the MemeGenerator website.  This is to prevent pictures from being chosen based on aesthetic reasons.

3.  You can make as many images as you like, but only one image will win.  Please restrain your entries to three pictures per post, so as to give everyone a chance.  Remember, voters, vote for a single picture, not for the person who made it, no matter how many pictures he has made.

4.  You cannot use the same caption in multiple pictures.

5.  You can only use the following characters for your image macro:

Socially Awkward Penguin

Courage Wolf

Advice Dog

Philosoraptor

Success Kid

Joseph Ducreux

Conspiracy Psyduck

Hipster Cat

Ramirez

Submit your images now, and I will check this thread and add all new images to the poll every other day starting Monday the 15th.  So, if you get your images in early, people will have more time to vote on them, so get to it!

Games / Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory
« on: July 29, 2009, 07:49:28 PM »
http://www.splashdamage.com/wolfet

Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory is a free, stand-alone, downloadable multiplayer game in which players wage war as Axis or Allies in team-based combat. It's a team game; you will win or fall along with your comrades. The only way to complete the objectives that lead to victory is by cooperation, with each player covering their teammates and using their class special abilities in concert with the others.

Featuring multiplayer support for up to 32 players, Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory is the ultimate test of communication and teamwork on the battlefield. Players join the fray as one of five distinct character classes each with unique combat abilities. The Covert Ops can steal the uniforms of fallen enemies and perform covert reconnaissance behind enemy lines, while Engineers can plant and diffuse land mines as well as construct battlefield structures including bridges, guard towers and forward operations bases in the midst of combat to gain advantages for their team. Medics provide health and revive fallen teammates, as Field Ops use their binoculars to mark enemy positions for a Soldier's mortar barrage. Each Axis or Allies team can divide itself into smaller fire teams for quick and easy communication using an intuitive messaging system and dynamic command map of the entire battlefield.

No longer does winning a single battle win the war. In Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory multiple objective-based scenarios are linked together over the course of three maps to form a campaign where teams struggle for successive victories. Throughout a campaign, players gain experience in categories like battle sense and light weapons as well as their class specific abilities, each of which persist and accumulate over the course of the campaign. As players reach higher levels in each of the seven categories they are awarded with enhanced abilities as well as battlefield promotions that are represented as ranks on each players helmet. The 28 enhanced abilities range from higher ammunition capacity and faster power-bar recharge times, to the ability to see land mines, revive fallen teammates at full health or use a machinegun instead of a pistol as your secondary weapon.

In addition to objective and campaign modes, Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory introduces a team-based Last-Man-Standing game mode, where squad-mates cooperate to ensure their team has the last surviving man on the battlefield. Additionally, Splash Damage has created a new terrain foliage system that allows players to hide or take a sniper position in the cover of long grass or snowy mountaintops. With numerous game modes, epic campaigns, persistent character progression and an arsenal of overwhelming firepower including land mines, mortars, mobile MG-42s and a silenced sniper rifle, Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory will have players battling in the trenches for hours.
