General Discussion / Re: the stagnation of blockland

I can see how interiors and terrains could've been a bridge too far for shaders/shadows, considering how almost every single graphical system in blockland immediately breaks when you enable shaders; ranging from projectile textures to colorshifted additive transparency. But the outright lie was that it was preventing anything else and that there would be an acceptable alternative

Yes. Exactly.

Shadows&Shaders might have broken on most maps, so why not leave that to map devs and clients?
Disable/Enable Map Shaders. Have them disabled by default for the client, and disabled by default for
default maps like Bedroom, Kitchen, Slopes, etc.

I'm not trying to disprove you or whatever, i'm genuinely asking out of curiosity if Blockland ever received an update post-shadows and shaders that justifies the trade off
Not really, no.

It takes mods to even make the Shaders look decent, because the as is shaders are kinda garbage.

Aside from that, what new additions have we gotten since then that couldn't be done when we did have interiors and terrains? Like the bots, the treasure chest and doors, the teleporter brick, etc

We were told that the interiors and terrains made Blockland's development harder or something like that, but what did we really get out of their removal besides the shadows and shaders that couldn't be done otherwise?
my point is, I don't even think the shadows and shaders needed the removal of maps.

On a related note, just how many updates did Blockland get that couldn't be done before v21 anyway?

Badspot claimed Shadows and Shaders couldn't co-exist with "Interiors and Terrains"

I really doubt that claim, and honestly, I think it was more likely that he couldn't figure out
how to make shadows and shaders look good inside of maps like Bedroom, and decided to axe them.

blockland's been suffering from a negative feedback loop of there being no good servers so nobody's on and then people don't make good servers because nobody's on
the idea that i could be spending massive amounts of time on something only to have 10~ people playing on it is what made me stop for good

That negative feedback loop is because of the inherent issue of Blockland now.

Blockland now requires multiplayer to be fun. Everything about Blockland is built to lean against multiplayer.
Back in the Pre V21 days, with all the maps, builds and content available, even if you were on the game alone,
Blockland could be fun.

Blockland became dependent on Multiplayer at a time when it should've leaned a bit further into Singleplayer.

When a game's multiplayer is dead, the singleplayer is all that remains.
If the game's singleplayer is worthless, and the multiplayer is dead, the game dies.

Maybe instead of nuking everyone because they disagreed with his decision making process.
Badspot should've taken his own advice:
"Might does not make right."

When V21 was announced, the community was divided, and most people at the time agreed that while the shaders looked nice (in the trailer)
it wasn't worth alienating map developers and people who liked playing on maps.

What'd badspot do? Called them all whiny caveman who 'no liked change'.
But it was an OBJECTIVELY BAD CHANGE.
v21 traded a gameplay feature for an aesthetic feature, that's a BAD TRADE.
The community was upset, and he decided to call them cave men, that's loving ignorant.

And every time ever since that update, whenever there's been an issue, his "fix" is to remove the
feature/make it unusable.

Keys, gone.
Forum registration, gone.

Maps propbably could've co-existed with shadows and shaders, but because he couldn't get it to
work they way he wanted, he decided to nuke maps.

also IIRC he claimed something about Steam GreenLight not accepting games that didn't have shaders,
which I'mma put a big X to doubt on that one, assuming I'm not mis-remembering this.

As I've said, the community can only do so much, but when the developer actively fought against keeping the game
alive, there's not much we can do.

The Steam Forums are basically worthless.
The BLF is inaccessible to most.

We lost RTB because we went to steam and Ephialtes presumed that meant
RTB was going to get replaced with the Workshop, as did most of us.
(Also behind the scenes stuff apparently happened between Ephialtes and Badspot.)

But basically (TL;DR), If Badspot really wanted to try to let Blockland float on it's own, He'd:

  • Set up the Steam Forums to be a Mini BLF, sans the insane BS that happens here.
  • Set up the Steam Workshop to allow COMMUNITY CONTENT FFS
  • Make an official Before v21 launch option to select between Blockland and Blockland Legacy (PreV21 features like maps)
  • Link Blockland's username system to Steam's.
  • Advertise the game.
  • Stop being so adversarial with the community.

Guess Biden isn't gonna deploy us
Of course he won't. He's an asset to our enemies.

Not anymore no, protests are pretty much either riots in progress or too peaceful to be meaningful at this stage in the game. Between the media and bad faith actors there is nothing in between the two poles. In the next <5 years people are going to notice their votes don't matter and their protests will just give fuel to the overstate to clamp down further.
I wished I had realized the minds had been made up in 2020.

Protests are useless on deaf ears.
Riots are only useful for the establishment, which holds the power.
Doesn't matter from which side it comes.

The only solace is that the Freedom loving Americans are pissed.
Quote from: John F Kennedy
“Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable."

I've tried to play ball, and play it fair.
But it's clear to me right now, there is no longer any place for negotiation
in US politics.

You either have a brain, or you're a democrat.

If you're a democrat, you like the boot being placed on the neck of peaceful protestors,
funding the Burn Loot Murder organization, and Think Biden is "the best President EVAR!"
because "atleast he's not DRumpf!"

I'm not emptying out common sense, so that I can be in the cool pool, that's filled with
stuff and smells like soy.

Basically, if you're a Democrat, forget you.

Afghanistan falling is your fault.
Ukraine falling is your fault.
Gas Prices going through the roof, is your fault.

Do you even know that Biden forced the US out of
being energy independent?

Do you even know that Biden went way past the
original planned Afghanistan withdrawal date, and
was still unprepared.

Do you even know that Blue cities are the cities with
the major racial issues that YOU complain about?

Annoying Orange wasn't the Russian asset, Biden is a Chinese asset.
Republicans aren't ruining the country, YOU ARE.

forget you, close the borders. It's not tribal it's rational.
forget you, voter ID, it's not voter suppression to make sure the people voting are loving CITIZENS.
forget you, I'm done pretending to be calm to look good on your propaganda media outlets.

Your leftist outlets only lie. Being smeared as a tribal, fascist and national socialist by tribal communists, is a loving Honor.

i swear i remembered matthew being pro vaxx at some point, so i went back a few pages to check. sure enough i found it

so which is it matthew 🤔

That was a different era for me.

130
matthew do u choose to be any of those things
Saying something isn't a protected class by law, despite the fact that taking
that action is a human right violation, is wrong. That is my point.

People don't choose to be covid vaccinated either, they
are coerced and blackmailed into doing so.

131
"unvaccinated" isn't a protected class, foolish child
According to Human Rights, it is.

Maybe not to Canadian Law, but the right to not undergo coerced or enforced medical procedures is
a Human Right.

Just because it's legal doesn't mean it's moral.

Perhaps this will get through.

1860s US:
Quote
"slave" isn't a protected class, foolish child
1950s US:
Quote
"colored" isn't a protected class, foolish child
China:
Quote
"Uyger" isn't a protected class, foolish child

134
everyone should be required to get vaccinated or literally never leave their home. that's the choice you get gothboy

And what will you do if they leave their house, unvaccinated?

135
>builds police state that opposes any kind of protest movement
>defends militarization of police by giving them billions in budget for surveillance
>give them all the surplus military gear possible
>defend them and back the blue because """law and order"""
>create a dumbass vaccine movement where you sit in trucks and honk and try to cut off supply lines to get noticed
>they enact martial law to clear you out
>"wtf i thought the blue was on our side"
>surprised pikachu face

God damn it, you can't put aside your differences for 5 seconds.

Not even when your political opponent conceded you were right about one thing, you only see the opportunity to use it as a "gotcha."

Most Younger Republicans today are where the average liberal stood in 2008.
Most of them were democrats. They were against militarized police, and a police state.

Then a group of lunatics would consistently burn down half the country every election cycle
As the Democrats and the left cried "peaceful protests".

The 2008 liberals either peaced out or turned right.
Then the lunatics gained control of the media, banks, major corporations
and pop culture.

Now the same groups who were occupy protesters in good faith stand by the
Freedom Convoys. And those who ended up being bad faith actors, who
We now know as Antifa and BLM are the ones cheering for the police state.

If antifa, BLM and the left in general believed in standing against government overreach and
Police states, and authoritarians as they once claimed, then they would choose to stand
with the convoy.

Instead, it's a hypocritical gotcha, "police good now. But bad before."
