Any prebuilt will cost more for the same hardware. That's the advantage of assembling your own. If a prebuilt manufacturer makes it harder to upgrade, that's just bad marketing.

Also, kids are dumb.
It's irrelevant as to how stupid people were for taking the loans that forgeted up the current economy, it is still manipulation done by banks in search of a profit and only a profit. Even if the people were stupid, and I don't believe they were, the only way to stop them from making these choices is to stop the choices from being offered by the banks.
Or you could punish those who go into debt, like in Dubai. You get jailed if you run out of money there, no matter what the reason. Can't pay for healthcare? Jailed. We have everything here except the jailing.
