General Discussion / Super's Beachbuild
« on: August 16, 2017, 08:02:22 PM »
Beachbuild!
So since Trogtor's Floating City build seems to be mostly dead, I decided why not host another sorta-specialized building server? It's not as fancy as his, but it's a really long beach and boardwalk.

Uses a few of Elektrk's Playable Instruments. If you want to cut down on the download time, grab those right here!

"Art"
that game where you draw stuff and it does things

You are faced with a blank canvas. It seems too empty.

please note that by "you" I mean "your character" and I'm actually going to be the one doing the drawing.

Suggestions & Requests / Odd spaceship-ish vehicle
« on: August 02, 2017, 12:38:14 PM »
I've had an idea for a racing-ish game and kind of wondered if the idea for the vehicle would work in blockland
I know the Freestyle Buggy allows control with the mouse for steering and keys for tilt, would it be possible to make a zero-gravity ship that accelerates with space/jump, moves up/down/left/right without turning with WASD (or whatever your movement keys are?), fires with space, and turns with the mouse (like planes do)?
Kinda like the Fast RMX cars but without gravity or a track.

Off Topic / Poll: Fun in Gameplay VS Fun in Challenge
« on: July 28, 2017, 07:18:12 PM »
Fun in gameplay would be enjoying playing the game, not in victory or being good at it. Examples vary, but I like to play Robot Roller-Derby Disco Dodgeball; I suck at it, but it's just generally fun to play. Winning is totally unnecessary, you don't need to be good at the game. This includes games with low skill requirements, where it's fun to win despite knowing you didn't really work that hard to achieve it. If someone can start up the game for the first time, absolutely wreck everything and have fun doing it, that's still fun in gameplay.

Fun in challenge would be enjoying seeing your skills improve and in winning something you fought to win. This is present in competitive multiplayer games, but also in singleplayer games like Crypt of the Necrodancer where there's a challenge to be overcome and where definite skill improvements are obvious.

so sometimes when Gus posts a video, it gets posted here (for example, someone posted the Domino's thing and that's how I learned of Gus)
thought I would contribute to that
today
today he tried to cook things in weird ways again
this time with fireworks
please berate your local gus johnson & friend for dangerous, irresponsible and likely illegal behavior
thankfully neither gus nor sven seems to be permanently injured
you'd think they'd have the brains to stop after a lot of "OW IT'S HOT OW OW"

General Discussion / Randomized Mission Gamemode?
« on: June 17, 2017, 09:03:50 PM »
A quick note, if I worked on this I'd do it after at least getting a proper paint gun working if not the entire paint gun based gamemode. This is NOT a request, this is a discussion of a potential gamemode, attempting to develop the idea rather than asking people to make it.

I looked at the satchel charge addon, and saw the demo GIF where it's used to blow up a tank. That got me thinking, what if one team's given setup time to prepare for an enemy with unknown resources and objectives? They would have to ask "Do they have a tank? Do they need to go across that bridge?" and such. Then, the other team has to figure out what's going on, where the enemy team is, and coordinate to cover what they think are the most likely objectives. The offense team is given maybe three objectives per round, to be done in a specific order. The defense team can try to sneak into a base or get close to members of the enemy team to listen in on teamchat to try and find either mission orders or clues as to what the offense team is planning to do.

Anyone got any thoughts on how this idea could be improved, or opinions on how well you think it'd play? It's certainly not perfect yet.

Gallery / Paint Rockets VS ATC Fort
« on: June 10, 2017, 10:05:08 PM »
...I figured out how to make rockets paint stuff when they exploded, mostly by copying Swollow's code that detects all bricks hit by an explosion.
I plan to make paint color a variable, so that you can pick certain colors to paint or have them set by your minigame team or whatever.

I painted it white with the New Duplicator first, because eventually I plan to make a gamemode based around paint and I plan for the maps to be white.

ATC Fort after I assaulted it.

The interior of ATC Fort.

I may have cheated and set the gun to fire rockets to do this faster.

Games / Terraria: Every other day at noon EST!
« on: June 08, 2017, 12:14:25 PM »
I'm getting a group together to play Terraria in Expert Mode. Anyone's welcome as long as they'll be friendly enough.
To join the group, you'll want to add me on steam and join the discord. Message me on Steam who you are on the Discord and I'll add you to the main channel.
You don't absolutely need to be part of the Discord; I'm going to have it open to all steam friends so you'd just look to see when I was playing Terraria and hit "join game" (for those who don't know where this is, click the little arrow by my name in the chat window). Discord is so I can quickly tell everyone "Hey, I'm hosting at such-and-such a time." I'll also invite everyone online once I actually get it running.

Hosting starts Tuesday at 3PM, then goes to 10AM every other day from there.

Modification Help / How does code on playertypes work?
« on: June 06, 2017, 06:23:42 PM »
I want to make a playertype that changes its view direction to be closer to the direction it's moving. This seems pretty simple logic-wise, I can probably make code for an event that does this when you run it on a loop but I don't know how to make this code run on the player and not as part of an event. It doesn't really make sense as an event; it's better to put it on the player because it's entirely a player-based thing.

How does code on playertypes work? All the documentation I can find is on modelling them... I need something either running on a loop all the time or while the player is moving under their own power.

Off Topic / Help! My parents won't stay out of my business!
« on: May 29, 2017, 05:44:47 PM »
Stuff they do that I want them to stop doing:

1. Coming into my room uninvited. I really don't like people in my room. It's weird to me. Someone being in my room uninvited is like someone standing right next to me as close as they can without touching me, and someone being in my room when I'm not around is like someone standing right behind me and trying not to be noticed. My point is, it's really weird/creepy to me when other people are in my room and my parents apparently don't understand that or don't care.

2. Following me around on the internet. Stuff like forwarding my email to them and setting up some google thing that notifies them when a new search result for my username comes up. It's like they're following me around listening to everything I say and everything other people say to me and that's creepy too. Imagine if they did that offline just creepily hanging out in the corner saying nothing. Also, a quick reminder. Being forwarded my email means they have access to reset most passwords and access basically any account. I've removed this because what the heck.

I've talked to them about it and they basically just say "No, we're your parents we do what we want" and ignore all my claims that it's creepy,
I'm at the point where I feel like almost everything I do, someone's watching me and judging me. BLF, help.

Now that I think about it, if they really wanted to they could access just about any account they wanted. Most accounts only need access to my email to reset the password, and they actually own the backup email I use to reset my password for gmail if I lose it. They actually own the domain and host the server. Basically my only account they couldn't access would be Steam because of the Steam Authenticator thing, but they'd have access to the computer that already is always logged into Steam because you can reset the computer's password from the internet as well, so...

Is it possible to find bricks at certain coordinates? Like, let's say I have a 2x2x5 brick placed at the origin, and a water brick placed there as well, and I type in 0 0 1. I want to make BOTH bricks do onRelay. How would I do that?
