Off Topic / Re: christmas time
« on: December 23, 2023, 12:50:25 PM »
i got my christmas present early, a garmin venu 2s to replace my fitbit whose battery couldnt last even a mile long run anymore. early christmas present to myself has been a fully custom built keyboard that i've worked on with another forumer. then for actual festivities, i'm spending christmas eve and christmas itself with two other families since my own family is so far away

i still keep the forums page pinned to my browser. i can't bring myself to unpin it. i always worry one day i'll click on the tab and it won't load up anymore.

keep in touch with a few people from the forums still, mainly the crew from abs fiesta over in community projects. qwepir is running a sequel adventure to it over discord these days, and a bunch of the players are making a pilgrimage to have another in-person meetup in a month or so

A lot of us were probably too young and naive to notice or care, but there were a good few who did notice and tried to point it out, but they would just be ignored or overshadowed by whatever other discussion(s) were going on
i remember always hating bisjac and trying to call him out on some of his gross opinions, but i was also a teenage girl at the time, so... i kind of got dismissed from what i remember lol

i love kombucha and used to drink it daily. never felt the effects of alcohol from it, and neither did my super skinny best friend who also used to drink it a ton

Actually for some more etymology Meat apparently meant "food" in general.

This is kinda cool because I think people refer to pulp as "meat" sometimes.
reminds me of how we use "meal" to refer to like. food times. when meal is just ground up grains. and how japanese uses "gohan" (rice) as a general term for food times. humans really be like "staple crop"

lamb is goated. i love beef if it's rare. and fish is also top tier if it's raw. but chicken is old faithful because you can do so much with it and it's pretty cheap

Off Topic / Re: what are some of your favorite recipes?
« on: March 05, 2023, 09:46:09 AM »
I just got some cast iron crockery and I'm almost brand new to cooking things from scratch. Does anyone here have any simple recipes they genuinely enjoyed/were satisfied with making when they were starting out?
my go-to ez comfort meal is:
rice (my fav is basmati)
cream of mushroom soup (canned, half water half milk) to smother the chicken and rice in
herbed chicken (usually salt, pepper, thyme, sage, maybe some rosemary if you're fancy) cooked in butter
and if you want to be really fancy, saute some mushrooms with it to go on top
