Actually, Linux as a server I can understand. But yes, day to day use is just fail
I use it from time to time, because when I use it I usually end up learning something,

at least on Gentoo.

my last post here will be this,

Macs and PC's are two different OS' both do different things.

Mac users consist of:

Home Office users such as authors & lawyers
Start ups such as Twitter & Monster Designs
Accountants such as Nelson Accounting Professionals
Architects such as KAA Design Group
Creatives such as LinkedIn, T-Pain, Hallmark, and Francis Ford Coppola
Health industries such as hospitals
IT professionals such as MailWise
Law firms
Real Estate agents
Retail stores such as Paul Frank
Scientists such as The University of Manchester and The American Museum of Natural History

Windows users basically consist of the following:

Home office users
IT Professionals
Developers
Business owners
Schools
Hospitals
Banks
Police
Gaming
Fixed.  My OCD went off when you forgot those two.

it was the marketing strategy of mac back in the 80s
they needed to twist the minds of the consumers, make them think the world was changing and they reinvented the computer or something.

personal computer was obviously a term that defined any computers in a household, as was revolutionary.
well mac didnt want to be put in the same boat. apple needed you to think they were above that "old" industry of that time.

well obviously it wasnt always mac/pc, then it was apple/pc. same thing
Mac reminds me of the snobby kids in school.

Which Windows are we talking about? Out of every desktop/laptop OS, Windows is probably the worst in performance. This is probably because it's so bloated from all the legacy stuff they still have to support.

I also really wish people would stop comparing the OS with the hardware. If you are going to compare a Mac to a PC you need to compare the hardware possibilities, price, etc. If you are going to compare operating systems, please specifically compare features of each operating system. It's not a hard concept.

Furthermore, Mac's are not "immune" to viruses. Viruses are acquired because of exploits and human error. You are also more likely to get a virus while using Windows because it is widely used. The fact that Mac's don't often have viruses created for them could be a downfall. Malicious software developers often expose holes in security, holes that may otherwise go unnoticed for a long time.

In my opinion, which was probably stated already, the only downfall of a Mac is it's outrageous price.
>"I also really wish people would stop comparing the OS with the hardware."
>"Windows is probably the worst in performance."
Conflicting statements.

The only people who buy macs are those who are too handicapped to operate a computer.
A person's intelligence is based on their IQ, not OS.

I disagree.

I think Mac was a true winner earlier on due to releasing one of the first affordable home computers. But as time went buy PC got a stronghold on on business and a lot of home users. And that is because PC's are generic, just any old hardware bunged together with the Windows operating system slapped on. Mac makes everything themselves, they are self contained; the fact they are this well known and this powerful, when they produce everything themselves under their own brand, is incredibly successful.

I don't know anyone that uses Windows at home because they want to, but just because they ended up doing it since when you know little about computers its easier to buy one of many PCs rather than a Mac specifically. Most people don't even know the difference, so all this hinting that Mac was avoided by consumers is jargon.

Might help
I got Windows because I want to use it.  It's very small on resources, can look lovey (rain meter, rocketdock, etc.), and works for gaming.

Vice versa.

And actually I'm not a "maccigarette" I'm just a rare breed of person that owns both systems because I'm not stupid enough to take sides. I use my Mac for audio creation and editing, video editing, graphical editing, and animation because god knows on Windows all the programs for such are over-priced or just plain crap (or available for OSX).

As for my PC laptop which I'm on now, I usually use that for gaming, school work, Skype, and programming software and websites. That is because my graphics card on my Mac is regrettably poop.
Sorry I called you a maccigarette, but I was joking.

The first? I've heard of a few, fortunately Apple usually jumps onto it instantly and deals with it. What someone would have to do is make multiple viruses and release them around the web, then maybe you'd get a hold on OSX. Why would you want to when Windows is so much easier to exploit.

You kidding, Lion is a massive change to the GUI and the app store thing on OSX is huge. You should educate yourself on the proper features.
1.Windows isn't easy to exploit, the users are.
2.Why would you even want with an app store anyway?  Mac's come with most of the things you'll need anyway (besides open office, but that's free.)

OH!

Also, Iv'e been hearing that it can use windows made applications without anything like wine.
True?
Linux and Mac have Wine, but it doesn't run everything.  Most F2P FPS games crash because of the anticheat and DirectX runs slower (and I don't think D3D even works at all!)

If it is that will be my next computer.
Read above.

Its funny how whenever you mention Mac, many of the users here suddenly show their idiot side and start being morons about it and posting false inflammatory things about the system. Yet turn the table, and they'll gang rape people who make a derogatory comment about PCs.

Worst kind of idiot.
Maccigarette.  :cookieMonster:

Shut up man Windows rocks.
This.  Someone tell me what Mac can do that Windows can't.
