for some reason ASUS does not have functional drivers for 8.1
either that or it's specific to my computer. either way several problems relating to drivers come to exist after i update, even after updating the drivers to 8.1
when i update to 8.1 and then install the updates after that, it gets hung while configuring and i have to factory reset
still has metro

also steam/skype do not work on my less than one month old windows 8 laptop
i have them installed properly
i've reinstalled several times
i don't have the energy for this

That's all your problem.

I have 8.1 installed on my new computer, asus motherboard and gpu, drivers work fine. Steam is working perfectly. There have been no problems relating to this operating system.

In what way? Unless you're a full blown handicap there's nothing you can't do functionally on this operating system that you could do on Windows 7.

all i've heard from her about windows 8 in general is problems. like how she can't play any dvd's on her computer or run any games without it crashing.

I've had an HP laptop that's done well for me. I think its a dv7 pavilion or some stuff.

It was the only thing I could play Watch Dogs on when my desktop had AMD all inside it.

i think all the 900s turn fans off completely at below 60c
let em run long and hard and see what they can get up to. the fans should pop on lol

I think I wasn't giving it enough time to update that I wanted the fans on 100%. They're running now, thanks anyways. :)

Two things on that note, this GTX 970 cools down really fast, apparently without the fans on at all. And the second thing is, what overclocking software do you guys recommend? I have the ASUS and MSI one right now, didn't know if there was a superior third party application.

a gpu would overheat very easily if there was no cooling at all. you would blue screen within 10 seconds of launching a game.
so something must be working lol

It was reading over 60C while I was playing Space Engineers on the highest settings, and I was starting to worry about long term heat like that on the card. I was always going to adjust the fan curve, but then it hit me that I've never seen them on.

Alright, just tried to up the fan speed to a 100% or whatever in Afterburner, they didn't turn on...

Starting to freak me out.
