« on: September 10, 2012, 07:16:57 PM »
It's a print for the 2x2f print plate, the archive is called Print_2x2f_Blueprint, it has the 512x512 PNG in the prints folder, the 64x64 PNG in the icons folder, it has a proper description, namecheck and rtbInfo text file and has the server.cs which says it does nothing because print loading is done automatically, however, i Print Gun a 2x2f print plate and i don't see my print anywhere

Environment Files / Bedroom skybox (carpet ground recommended!)
« on: August 12, 2012, 08:04:24 PM »
Description
Kompressor thought he was rid of it, but little did he know, he only flattened it!

Basically it's a skybox with Bedroom's wall, wood and ceiling textures and with the same exact lighting (matching direct lighting included)

Download from Mediafire

Screenshots

On a side note: I tried uploading this to RTB, but it wouldn't let me because it said that Bedroom.dml and Bedroom-thumb were missing from the .zip, but i double checked the archive file and they're both there, so i don't know what it's on about :(

General Discussion / How the sun's direct lighting affects textures
« on: August 12, 2012, 10:55:35 AM »
Some of you may already know, but for those who don't, the sun's direct lighting affects certain parts of textures, how is this done you may ask? According to my research, it depends on the brightness of the texture, even if those parts are transparent, it's still gonna affect how the direct lighting affects it

Let's look at an example, Jirue's archer decal

"Oh god why does it look so hideous?"

This is why

Anything that isn't completely black is gonna have some sort of shine to it, and with wacky colored transparency like that, there's bound to be some odd issues with the direct lighting

"But what can i do about this?"

A free program like Paint.NET can easily remedy this, open up your face or decal or print, make sure you have the Layers window open by clicking on 'Window' on the top of the Paint.NET window and click the Layers option

Create a new layer by clicking on the Layers window and move it below the original layer by clicking the , while on this new layer, click the 'More >>' button on your Colors window, set your color to pure black and the 'Transparency - Alpha' to 0, then use the Paint Bucket to fill the whole layer

Then click on the original layer above your transparent black layer and click the to merge the top layer down over your layer, then all the transparent parts should turn transparent black

I've done this with Jirue's archer decal, and now here's what it looks like with visible alpha/transparency

Much better?

Music / Annie - Chewing Gum
« on: August 05, 2012, 02:35:40 PM »
That song from the Blockland physics preview

I've been told there's already a loop of this song but it doesn't loop very well, so i set out on a quest to make a loop of this song, i've been able to make two loops but sadly, i can't decide which i like best, so i'll leave that to you guys by having separate download links!

Short repetitive loop of the music only
http://www.mediafire.com/?dino8oqtckpfszb

Longer a bit less repetitive loop with music and singing

As always, place the .OGG files in the Blockland/Add-Ons/Music directory

Music / Windows's 'Town' and 'Onestop' loops
« on: July 28, 2012, 07:05:29 PM »
As requested by Megaguy (i was unable to make a good loop of Flourish though)

The songs Onestop and Town which can be found in MIDI form in the C:/Windows/Media directory

Onestop has 4 different loops because it's a long song which has multiple parts in it, one loop fades in and out only because it was too good to pass up, so i had to find some other way to loop it

Place the OGG files in your Blockland/Add-Ons/Music directory

Music / Mister Softee jingle
« on: July 07, 2012, 09:08:17 AM »
The jingle played by the Mister Softee ice cream trucks

For all of your ice cream truck needs! It's a short loop, not the whole jingle, by the way

Place the .ogg in the Blockland/Add-Ons/Music directory and enable it in the Music List when starting a server

Introduction to the Source Filmmaker

Quote
The Source Filmmaker (SFM) is the movie-making tool built and used by us here at Valve to make movies inside the Source game engine. Because the SFM uses the same assets as the game, anything that exists in the game can be used in the movie, and vice versa. By utilizing the hardware rendering power of a modern gaming PC, the SFM allows storytellers to work in a what-you-see-is-what-you-get environment so they can iterate in the context of what it will feel like for the final audience.

How do I use stuff from other Source games in SFM?
Create a new folder in your "game" folder and extract the maps, models, materials and particles folders there. Then go to the usermod directory, open gameinfo.txt and add the following line to the appropriate place:
Code: [Select]
Game foldername
Remember that SFM loads folders in the order specified!

How do I use Portal 2, Alien Swarm or CS:GO stuff in SFM?
See above. Once you've done that, save this batch file (thanks to Smashman!) to the directory (so, for example, to your SourceFilmmaker/game/csgo folder) and run it. It'll fix the models to work properly in SFM.

If you want to use Portal 2 maps, right click on the viewport and click "Draw Game Entities > Draw Other Entities". Otherwise you'll end up with huge holes in the map.
Alien Swarm maps may cause crashing if you don't use fogui to lower the draw distance.
CS:GO maps won't work, as they're a newer version of the map format.

How do I use Left 4 Dead 2 stuff? It keeps crashing!
See above. Once you've extracted the files to their own folder, install jimbomcb's compatibility fix.

How do I make phoneme extraction work with HL2 models (and custom models that use HL2-style flexes)?
Right click the animationset and choose "Show in Element Viewer > AnimationSet". Then in the Element Viewer, right click the animationset's name and choose "Creates Phoneme Presets based on HL2 FACS controls". Done!

"The map I want to use is complaining that it's not HDR enabled!"
You'll have to recompile the map with HDR enabled in the compile settings. If a source (.vmf) file is not included, and the author is no longer present in the community, you may need to decompile the map, though be aware this is far from a perfect solution and may introduce bugs.

NEWS
February 8th, 2013, February 11th, 2013

With Valve's consent, TF2 community member, MaxOfS2D has uploaded the models and sounds from the days of the closed Source Filmmaker Beta, you can download the models HERE, and the sounds HERE, the models and sounds include various stuff that was used in The Meet the Team videos, that includes plenty of unused stuff

Welcome to the Source Filmmaker media thread where you can post any videos or pictures you or other people have made in the leaked or official beta Source Filmmaker

The official beta includes Meet the Heavy, Meet the Engineer and Meet the Soldier, so you can feel free to see how Valve did what they did... or you can just screw around and remake the videos in your own twisted way!

The Source Filmmaker also includes the character models you see in Valve's Meet the Team videos that have detailed facial expressions and higher poly, more detailed hands with better texture quality than the standard TF2 character models you see in game, you can find these models in the 'models/player/HWM' directory of the 'tf_movies' category

KNOWN BUGS
White disco specks: Open the console with ~ and type mat_specular 0 and wait for the game to finish disabling the specular

Videos are darker after being exported: Use a different codec such as AVI when exporting your video

Diagonal line of whiteness:

You probably are using an integrated chipset and don't meet the minimum specs. Refer to the "What are the specs for SFM?" Question.

You need to make the camera an animation set, then set the bloom slider all the way to the left. You need to do it for every new camera, but it removes the white line.

In a recent Steam update, it has been made possible to give games in your library's grid view a custom image that has to be 460 x 215 and can be a JPEG, PNG or TGA, i've made a Blockland picture using one of the screenshots from the site's media page

You can save it anywhere and go into the grid view of your Steam library and right click your shortcut of Blockland and click 'Set Custom Image', i have chosen that picture because it shows off the 'land of blocks' thing very well

Now onto a more important matter for those of you who use Steam and use Windows XP Service Pack 1, Steam will be dropping support on August 31st, "But Masterlegodude, if someone has Steam, they're more than likely to know about this!", true, but i figured i'd put this in a topic for discussion and possibly for people who use XP SP1 but don't have Steam just so they'd know that they'll be dropping support

The update page can be found here

So feel free to use the above image for your Blockland shortcut, or post your own images for others to use and feel free to share custom images for other games/shortcuts

Edit: Forgot to mention, was the Self Updater bugging out? Some weird symbols were appearing and text was going off the screen that couldn't be re-sized to make the text not be cut off

Also, while you can add a custom image to the grid view, it won't work for list view and thus Valve should make that a possibility next

Drama / mandarkthegenius: "The magic butterfly says..."
« on: June 18, 2012, 09:42:34 AM »
Profile: http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?action=profile;u=38678

Just wanting to make a note of this guy, his most recent posts only consist of "The magic butterfly says" with yes or no after

Hopefully this behavior will come to a halt soon enough, it's bothersome that he's already done this quite a few times now as well as trying to use 500 for his text size in a couple of his posts

It should also be noted that he hasn't posted since May and back in May and before then, he was posting normally, so either he's having some 'fun', got hacked, or decided on becoming a nuisance, though that last thing could actually be the same as the first thing depending on how you see it i guess

And boy are scratch cards a tease and a pain in neck! I have 7 scratch cards, and i get $1 x2 and a $$ on a match card and won a total of $2, one card is like a slot machine, you scratch a row and scratch the prize for that row, i did it in reverse for some reason but, saw row 2 had $2,500 as the prize and thought "Pfft, no way i'm winning that much!", my family tends to be rather unlucky with scratch cards, i think they're rigged

So yay, i have a cake on my profile!

I'm trying to give my weapon the Hammer's explosion datablock, but it doesn't give my weapon the Hammer's 'clink' explosion sound, adding in a sound datablock named hammerExplosion with the hammerHit sound doesn't work, is there a way i can remedy this? Also, since i'm using the default wrench model, it uses the 'armattack' animation, but does the default wrench model have it's animation coded into the DTS? Because while it does the 'armattack' animation, it also does what looks like the wrenching animation, if it's coded in the DTS, i'm assuming there's nothing i can do about this?
