http://sourcefilmmaker.com/Introduction to the Source FilmmakerThe Source Filmmaker (SFM) is the movie-making tool built and used by us here at Valve to make movies inside the Source game engine. Because the SFM uses the same assets as the game, anything that exists in the game can be used in the movie, and vice versa. By utilizing the hardware rendering power of a modern gaming PC, the SFM allows storytellers to work in a what-you-see-is-what-you-get environment so they can iterate in the context of what it will feel like for the final audience.

How do I use stuff from other Source games in SFM?Create a new folder in your "game" folder and extract the maps, models, materials and particles folders there. Then go to the usermod directory, open gameinfo.txt and add the following line to the appropriate place:
Remember that SFM loads folders in the order specified!
How do I use Portal 2, Alien Swarm or CS:GO stuff in SFM?See above. Once you've done that,
save this batch file (thanks to Smashman!) to the directory (so, for example, to your SourceFilmmaker/game/csgo folder) and run it. It'll fix the models to work properly in SFM.
If you want to use Portal 2 maps, right click on the viewport and click "Draw Game Entities > Draw Other Entities". Otherwise you'll end up with huge holes in the map.
Alien Swarm maps may cause crashing if you don't use fogui to lower the draw distance.
CS:GO maps won't work, as they're a newer version of the map format.
How do I use Left 4 Dead 2 stuff? It keeps crashing!See above. Once you've extracted the files to their own folder, install
jimbomcb's compatibility fix.
How do I make phoneme extraction work with HL2 models (and custom models that use HL2-style flexes)?Right click the animationset and choose "Show in Element Viewer > AnimationSet". Then in the Element Viewer, right click the animationset's name and choose "Creates Phoneme Presets based on HL2 FACS controls". Done!
"The map I want to use is complaining that it's not HDR enabled!"You'll have to recompile the map with HDR enabled in the compile settings. If a source (.vmf) file is not included, and the author is no longer present in the community, you may need to
decompile the map, though be aware this is far from a perfect solution and may introduce bugs.

With Valve's consent, TF2 community member, MaxOfS2D has uploaded the models and sounds from the days of the closed Source Filmmaker Beta, you can download the models
HERE, and the sounds
HERE, the models and sounds include various stuff that was used in The Meet the Team videos, that includes plenty of unused stuff
Welcome to the Source Filmmaker media thread where you can post any videos or pictures you or other people have made in the leaked or official beta Source Filmmaker
The official beta includes Meet the Heavy, Meet the Engineer and Meet the Soldier, so you can feel free to see how Valve did what they did... or you can just screw around and remake the videos in your own twisted way!
The Source Filmmaker also includes the character models you see in Valve's Meet the Team videos that have detailed facial expressions and higher poly, more detailed hands with better texture quality than the standard TF2 character models you see in game, you can find these models in the 'models/player/HWM' directory of the 'tf_movies' category
KNOWN BUGS
White disco specks: Open the console with ~ and type mat_specular 0 and wait for the game to finish disabling the specular
Videos are darker after being exported: Use a different codec such as AVI when exporting your video
Diagonal line of whiteness:
Or
You need to make the camera an animation set, then set the bloom slider all the way to the left. You need to do it for every new camera, but it removes the white line. |
