Off Topic / What's going on with my laptop?

I've had this laptop for 2 or so years and it's been working just fine, but for quite a few months (not sure how many but i think about 5 - 7 months), my laptop has been having problems with having it's battery charge and just running in general

Problems with charging consist of different issues happening with pretty much any charger wires, even if they're brand new and still in good condition, one issue is where the laptop will have the lights indicate that it's charging, but the icon will say that it's plugged in but not charging, then a second issue with is the first one vise-versa where the icon will say it's charging, even as far as playing the charge animation, but the power light and the charge light will be orange and blink on and off, indicating it's plugged in, but not charging, also, i'm not sure if the laptop can die when either issue is happening, i haven't kept it in that situation long enough to find out

But what's weird is that most of the time i'm using the charger, it works just fine, the lights and the battery icon both indicate it's plugged in and charging and shows the battery percentage going up after a while of charging, but once one of those two problems start, chances are, it doesn't stop for a long time, and it fluctuates between the two

Something may be wrong with the port, but i can't see anything wrong from the outside, so if it's coming from inside the laptop, is there something i can do about it?



And as for running in general, there are times where it just randomly shuts off without any warning, and when i turn it back on, the battery percentage is below the critical battery percentage of 7%, i usually find it at 1%, even though before it shuts off, it's still in the progress of charging, like maybe it'll be around 58%, for example, and it'll just shut off

I assume it's overheating when that happens, because my laptop gets really hot sometimes, especially when i have a game running (even if it's something small like Blockland or Minecraft), but i haven't known my laptop to actually overheat and shut off in the 2 or so years i've had it until a while back, almost the same time the problems with charging started happening

Another issue is when i shut off my laptop, the power light will come back on, but orange, turning the laptop back on will only mix the blue 'on' light with this strange orange light, shutting the laptop off, the blue light will go off, but the orange will stay on, the only way i know to get rid of the orange light is to remove the battery and put it back in

I really don't know what causes that as it seems to happen randomly, it doesn't always happen when it shuts down

So any of you tech savvies know what i can do about this?

Off Topic / How do i restore my fonts folder to defaults?

So due to the amount of fonts i had on my laptop, Photoshop would randomly crash anytime i used the font tool, but after fixing Photoshop by deleting all of my fonts (except for fonts Windows won't let me delete because they're in use), i've lost default fonts like Comic Sans, Impact and probably several others that were default but weren't in use

I've looked around for ways to restore the fonts, but i get unhelpful stuff about restoring font settings (which is completely different and results in restoring font size, font set for various programs across Windows, etc), how to delete fonts, but not actually restoring it back to it's default state

I did get linked to a page on Microsoft's site that showed a list of fonts that come with Windows 7, but that's not helpful after having deleted all my fonts, and i've done way too many things to be able to restore them with a system restore, i also came across someone who uploaded a zip file of 'default Windows 7 fonts', however, there were a ton of fonts in it, most i was not familiar with, with some actual default fonts sprinkled about, so seeing all the strange files made this feel kinda shady, so i decided not to install any of the fonts it came with

So now i shall ask you guys, after having deleted my fonts folder, and not being able to system restore, how do i restore my fonts folder to it's original state?

Though Microsoft should get off their lazy faces and make a way to restore the fonts folder to factory defaults considering how many people overdose on custom fonts

A while back, Megaguy came up with the idea to edit the Blockhead Ruins Xmas build and remove all the snow and Christmas stuff, and after working on it every now and then, it's as done as we could get it

We changed the color of roofs, fences, bushes, trees, removed various lights and other decorations, made a few changes and additions here and there, and of course changing all the snow into grass and cement, however, there may be some things left over from the original version that we may have forgotten or overlooked

Before downloading, make sure you've got the ModTer content enabled, even before editing, this build had floating bricks coded into it, so we just went with it and left them there as well as making floating bricks of our own by building inside invisible ModTer blocks that cover the place

Anyway, comes in two flavors!

A recreation of my pre-v21 map of the same name, BL_Construct, made out of default bricks, just make sure that Brick_ModTer_InvertedPack, Brick_ModTer_BasicPack, and Print_ModTer_Default are enabled


Started around the 21st, finished on the 30th while taking a few days off to work on other things in between, it contains a total of 7,641 bricks

The only issue is that the water blocks didn't work with the ModTer bricks, so i had to fake the water with baseplates

The white room features a working light switch and there's two other things, but you'll have to find them out for yourself :)

A new promo for the upcoming movie simply titled 'The LEGO Movie' was recently uploaded to the Roadshow Films Youtube channel

This promo features various characters from the movie talking about the movie, their roles in the movie, their voice actors and more

It's just so entertaining and silly even though it's a short 4 minute video, i just can't wait to see this movie!

I never knew about this until today, but apparently Microsoft (in collaboration with Internet Explorer) has remade their old Hover! game from 1995 with better graphics, new sounds, and a single short looping up-beat tune that's louder than the game sounds!

In this version, you can play singleplayer or multiplayer and choose from 3 different vehicles, and play 3 different levels, there is no more rear view mirror and no more points, but you can now zoom in and out of your map for whatever reason

FUN FACT: Typing 'bambi' on the main menu will let you play the first level of the original Hover! (complete with Windows 95 desktop with clickable icons)


Though there's some things i don't like about this, like the aforementioned looping up-beat tune, it's the only song that plays, it's louder than some of the game audio and it's really noticeable when the song loops

Also the AI is really really bad, i know it's a recreation, but i think they take even longer to collect your flags than in the original game, they could have added in an option for difficulties, IMO

Then there's this glitch where the hovercrafts will just get sucked into a wall and fall below the level

After i fell outside the level, i found out where my adversary disappeared to, he's just spinning around underneath my flag, but then i see something in the distance just past him, it's another him, but it's motionless, stuck in mid-air just outside of a wall!

So what do you guys think of this re-creation?

For those who don't know, The Idiots of Garry's Mod were these random skits in the game 'Garry's Mod' put into a 10 to 20 minute long or so video made by a group of people called ICTON, only two exist currently, click one of the following links to see either video

After many years of people pleading, begging and yelling for more, there's been nothing but silence...

Until December 10th of this year, that is, ICTON member Modman posted a video to his Youtube channel called 12/11 which showed 12/11/13 slowly fading in and out throughout the video

On the 11th of December, a video was posted on the alternate account of ICTON admin, Djy1991 (i know some of yous may be familiar with this guy, winkity-wink), named WergBurg, the video is titled mossman4 1 and features two players and someone saying "Alright, Mossman, right hand yellow", this is a reference to the first video in which Half Life 2 characters G-Man, Judith Mossman, Alyx Vance and Dr Kleiner are playing a game of Twister and someone says "Okay, Mossman, right hand yellow"

The description of the video contains a mess of characters that look like something written in base64, i've tried and had no luck with decoding it as it just outputs an even worse mess of characters, feel free to try it yourself by using this site: http://home.paulschou.net/tools/xlate/

This small string of events could possibly mean that the next Idiots of Garry's Mod will be starting up if it's not already in the works

What do you guys think? How do you feel? Will Mossman ever put her right hand on the yellow circle without violently exploding?

Bodygroups change the face from the normal black eyes and mouth, to a desu face, female eyes with black mouth, or no eyes and no mouth (for skins that don't have animateable parts)

Skins change the overall look of the Blockhead, there are a couple of skins that have parts that can't be animated as they are just part of the head texture

Right click the object in the animation set list, click Override Materials, right click the model's animation set, find the option to view the 'Model' in the Element Viewer

Then scroll down and click the (+) to the side of 'materials', click the (+) next to 'white' (or 'whiteTrans'), right click the material you want to edit the color of, open the menu for Add Attribute and click Color (which uses color values of 0 to 255) or Vector3 (which uses values of 0.000 to 1.000 like Blockland commonly does) and name the attribute $color2

If done right, the model will turn black by default and you can edit it from there by clicking the black bar (if using Color) or on the text box with the 3 0's in it (if using Vector3)

Modification Help / /!\ PSA: Change the weapon reload key /!\

For as long as weapons have had a reload feature, i've been bothered by how the reload key is the light key, and i'm sure i'm not the only one who thinks this could be done better

There are two problems with weapons using the light key for the reload button, those problems are
  • If the server takes place in a dark environment, to toggle your light on or off would have to wait until your weapon is reloaded, not everyone has their lights turn on when in dark maps, and because i haven't tried it recently enough, i don't know if a player's light stays on when they respawn whether or not they have that option enabled

    Not a particularly good point, but it's a point nonetheless

  • A better point to make is how uncomfortable it is reaching the light key to reload whenever necessary, it seems to me that like me, the majority of people put the light key on the L key, makes sense right? L for light, yeah? But if you're keeping four of your fingers on the A, W, D and F keys, it's gonna feel pretty uncomfortable trying to get your thumb to the L key to reload since your thumb is the only finger that can reach the L key

    And in that case, to move your thumb to the L key, your hand's gonna twist in a way that lets your thumb move to the L key, but keep 2, 3 or even all 4 of your fingers on the A, W, D, and F keys, which will feel uncomfortable for your fingers and possibly even cause some minor/very minor cramping in your wrist which can become a nuisance after a while

| A: Use sit instead of light |


Now you may be wondering, "Why use sit?", think of it like this, how important is sitting during combat situations? It's not important, players are gonna want to toggle their light more than wanting to sit down during combat, so the sit command becomes far less useful during whatever minigame the server is running that includes combat of any kind, so it makes more sense to make the reload key replace such a useless action

In addition, S is typically the backward movement key, so people would probably bind sit to a key they may not be using much or just some random key, if reload was to be made into the sit command, it can be bound to a key that's much easier to get to, such as the R key, the R key is the reload key in many shooters, and it's in an easy to reach spot while you're using your pinky, ring, and middle fingers to control your character, you can easily move your index finger to the R key to reload

So it makes the most sense, right? Anyone else agree and/or want a change to how weapons reload?

Modification Help / Making a vehicle with a chase cam

I'm working on my snowmobile vehicle, and i want to give it a chase cam, but i don't know how, 8 seems to work best, from what i could tell when i manually typed it into the console

I want to make it so that when a player gets on the vehicle, the chase cam activates, and then deactivates when they get off, something like this
