General Discussion / Re: So are maps/terrain ever coming back?
« on: June 14, 2013, 01:08:42 PM »
yeah its not so bad once you get the hang of it
just build effeciently (conservative) and you could have a map equivalent in no time flat!
Yeah, I guess that's true but still it was really fun to make my own maps and interiors for blockland.  Not many other games let you do that, and now this one doesn't either.   Just kind of limits the creativity of mod creators like me.

Only reason I miss t&i is stranded gamemode
Yeah, there was that, my RPG server, Jorgur's RPG and Dogfight, a ton of cool challenge maps like Irk's challenge, my challenge, and some others.  So many good servers that can't be used now because of no terrain.

your best bet is to get a builder to make a map out of modter bricks, or you can use GSF's terrain generator.
Yeah but lets be honest, the terrain bricks don't look too great and the GSF terrain generator is kind of boring.

people gonna have to learn to build maps with bricks lol
Bricks are only good to a point.  Once again, too many bricks lags people a lot.  Terrain never did that.

Never coming back.

It's better without them.
Yeah, they're probably never coming back.  Honestly though, I think the game was way better with them.  Really added a lot more possibilities to the game-play.

Because they were buggy with the new shaders. Just use terrain blocks to build a awesome map.
Yeah, but blocks can be laggy when you want to build big maps to play on.  Terrain was a lagless way to play on a big map and make it the way you want.  I know people will disagree with me on this, but shaders really don't add that much to the game and losing maps just for them doesn't seem worth it to me.  Just my opinion.

It would be nice to have them back so I could host cool server again.  They really added a lot to Blockland as a game and were just awesome.  Then I could host my cool RPG StoneQuest that really heavily relied on maps and that would be fun.
So yeah, I just want to know if there's ever any plan to add them back in the future.
Thanks.

Is this still in development, or should I just forget about waiting for it and find a way to do StoneQuest without bots? :|

It's been a while but I have lots of news to tell you guys (not that anyone probably even cares):
I am still working on spirits, even if people think it was a "fail"
I have my own website now where I make my own games and maybe even some mods (www.chaomoon.com)
I will not be hosting again on blockland
If you want to talk with me about stuff, post on my website.
Im working on two big projects at the moment: a game called Magick and a server for maplestory, both of which you can see on my website

I'm posting this not for advertising reasons, but so that my friends will know where I have gone.

Maybe you didn't catch it, but I'm not stupid enough to make my script rely on the terrain.  What I'm trying to say is that stonequest and all the other RPGs that use maps will just not be the same without their maps.  It has nothing to do with bad ai or bad scripting.

Everything you said up until this quote were legitimate points. However, this is just stupid. Terrains and interiors were originally introduced to help populate a game with a relatively low brick count. When Retail was released, the features were transfered over because he had no reason not to add them. Since that time however, Badspot has complained about different issues concerning these features that bar him from implementing new features, which in itself is enough of a reason to remove them.

While it is sad we will be losing a fairly large chuck of our modding community due to this update, mapping was never a promised feature of the game. Blockland is the game where you build things using it's brick system. And he has decided that improved graphics will benefit the promised features.
What i'm trying to say is that Badspot basically got us modders hooked on creating mods with maps, and now he thinks he can just completely destroy everything us modders have worked for.  He should know that since he was the one that allowed us to create maps, he would have a problem like this when he tried to remove them.  He should have known that all of the modders would raise hell.  And just think, he's completely getting of all of the user-made maps, just for some shadows and shaders.

What would you rather have, pretty little shadows or all of the user-made maps.

Enjoy riding a jeep on a blank slate.

You know, it's really hard for most of you guys to understand how me and Jorgur feel.  I highly doubt that most of you have put years into developing great RPGs that rely on terrain and interiors.  And now v21 will take our hard work an basically destroy it.  You must understand, it takes years to develope these mods.  We have spent days on end reforming our code and scripting these RPGs.  The feeling that all of your hard work for the past few years will go down the drain is just horrific.

I'm not saying that everyone should be against it.  I'm sure that many people do not use interiors and terrain in their daily lives and actually would much rather have shadows.  And i'm also sure that many people that make mods using interiors and terrain are fine with v21 and would much rather have shadows.

I don't really care what side you are on.  Just understand that 2 years of my life have been focused on making StoneQuest better and better.  I guess I could make just make it out of bricks, but it just wouldn't be the same.  Just like Jorgur says, if this actually happens, it will really hurt blockland's creative potential.

If badspot didn't want terrain and interiors, he shouldn't have introduced them in the first place.

Either way, blockland to me will just not seem the same.
I just can't accept the fact that all of my hard work over the past two years is all going down the drain.  If you were in my place, you would understand how I feel.  I don't know if I'll ever will see blockland he same way after this.

I came to blockland to create.  I wanted to make my own game.  I've done that, and had fun while it lasted.  I'm only one person, and nobody probably even cares about what I think.  I honestly feel pretty devastated by this entire thing.

Since it will ruin my entire stonequest rpg, I have to be against it, obviously.

Let me just say this: Nobody wants your stupid shadows over all of the great RPGs
plus, heed's slopes tdm will be gone :{

Oh yes, I probably should say that StoneQuest 2 was released yesterday to the public for alpha testing.  Feel free to join the server anytime today.
