: I lost two of my pilots out there, but the rest of the squadron came back with minor or moderate damage.
She looks back at the nearly totaled flanker. That's from flying into the tower.
Bell takes off her helmet before replying to the Marshal.: What are we picking up from there? More parts for the craft we have aboard or something else?
Bell makes her landing first, hoping that the Flanker doesn't fall apart on impact.Disembarking from your plane, you encounter the Sky Marshal making his way to the recovery deck. He overhears your thinking-out-loud.: Oh wow, it looks like they brought the entire fleet here. I guess it's that big of an operation, huh?
Faw's mind goes numb and he flicks on the full-auto. dumping at many round as he can at the power-armour in a mad attempt to kill it.Faw's Ballistic Skill 30
"forget it!" Faw hits the dirt and fires a returning semi-auto burst at the power armor near the entrance.Faw's Ballistic Skill 30
"What!?" Faw reflexively twists around and barely aims before firing his underbarreled grenade launcher at the entrance to the tunnel.Faw's Ballistic Skill 30
Faw takes a peek over the barricade and observed what's happening. He wonders if the Imperials would really take him prisoner- no Imperial massacres of Aesthian or allied prisoners came immediately to mind. But flashes of Yui's end and his own unit's transgressions make this an uncertainty, for him, anyways. He keeps staring down the sights at the power armor.
He tugs the soldier next to him,
"What are you planning to do?"
Faw halts his fire, and withdraws back into cover. He turns over to the Aesthian commando and tells him what's happening.Commander Blom responds in the form of standing up and taking aim at the power armor, who points his gun at him in return. You hear what sounds like someone sighing into a loudspeaker coming from down the hall.
"They've stopped firing. And the tin can? He's standing still. Gun down. Hand up. What do you think we should do?"
Faw fires a semi-auto burst at the power armor from cover.Faw's Ballistic Skill 30
"Ah, stuff!"Commander Blom stands up and fires on the power armor again as it continues to draw near.
Faw rolls over and stumbles up to his feet. He braces himself against the cover, reading himself to fire at the approaching enemy.
Faw lunges towards the grenade with the intensity of a man possessed and barely grips it in his hand before whipping it out from the barricade towards the end of the tunnel from where they came. He then goes to hit the dirt with his legs pointing towards the tossed aside grenade, hoping to minimize the damage of any shrapnel to his torso or head. The other Aesthians duck behind the barricade and simply prepare for the worst while Faw handles the grenade.
Faw crouches up and squats behind the piece of cover. He starts to unload the krak round from the grenade launcher and insert a HE round.CDR Blom's BS 40
"Gods damnit! We've got two down!"
Faw puts some spring into his step and sprints towards the pop up cover 20 meters away, dolphin diving behind the barricade to hopefully dodge any bullets coming his way.You hit the deck a few meters behind the non-disintegrated cover. One commando runs past you to the left and reaches the cover still on his feet, and to your right another slides along the smooth concrete the last few meters, ending up crouched entirely behind it. The commando with the grenade launcher slows his pace just enough to fire a shot with his drum-fed grenade launcher.
After hitting the concrete floor, Faw sighs in exasperation and tries to let the tension out of his arms and legs. He lets out a low, nervous chuckle, and wonders if he's going to end up like Yui, her burial site 50 meters long and 50 meters wide, strewn all about the roof of an office building. It'd be nice to die a hero's death, like Geary's, but down on the ground, the grim reality of the situation is displayed in full, the brutality of it unobscured by kilometers of altitude or unabstracted by HUD readouts of maps of friendly or enemy positions and radio confirmations of "good hits" or "fire effective."
Even though, he thought, he was already doomed, it'd be a lot more difficult to sacrifice himself down here rather than up there.
He makes sure his rifle is ready to fire, and readies it with shaky hands.
"Alright, let's go!"With 20 meters still to go to the pop-up cover, an enemy squad appears through the door at the end of the hall. Two riflemen, two exoskeleton-wearing shieldbearers, one machine gunner, and a suit of powered armor. The exoskeletons take point, deploying their shields and extending the sides to provide enough cover for three (tightly packed) people, the riflemen and machine gunners file in behind them and take cover behind the barricades, and the power armor steps through the door and readies its minigun to fire.
Faw hastily jams a krak round into the 'nade launcher and rushes forwards with the squad of Aesthians down the hallway.
