His teammates follow suit, not willing to stay and wait for the enemy to come down the stairs they just entered from.

Faw gets into position on the left hand side of the door and starts to aim his grenade launcher down the hallway, at the barricade about 50 meters out.

The man standing in the doorway behind the robot gets shot at while you do so.

Faw loads a HE grenade into the underslung grenade launcher and follows closely behind Bogi.

Standing behind the man in the doorway, you get a better view of the hallway. It seems to stretch on for at least a hundred meters, and about fifty meters out there is a flip-up barricade behind which four Imperial soldiers are shooting down the hall. You count three rifles and one MG. Bogi fires with the robot's beam rifle.

Faw quickly checks his rifle to make sure it's loaded and ready to fire, and then charges towards the pinned Helian robot and push it further towards the wall. Faw tries to jam the muzzle of his rifle up into it's guts. Or where it's guts would be.

"stuff!" Faw books it to the tunnel, leaving a dust trail in his wake.

You are now in a moderately sized entry room at the bottom of the stairs. It has three sturdy-looking blast doors (not counting the one you just came through, one on each wall. One of the doors is open, and what you can see beyond is a wide, hemispherical concrete tunnel, dimly lit by orange-tinged incandescent lighting. One of the commandos is grappling with an armed Helian robot, pinning it against a wall; while another is blind-firing down the hallway with an appropriated Imperial service rifle (old model). There is signage above each of the doors, but Faw can't read Gothic.

Faw quickly gets to work, replacing his pilot's armor with the dead soldiers breastplate and fastening the greaves and arm guards to his body. He clips the chest rig to his body armor, making sure it's safely secured to his person before stuffing the pockets full of ammo and grenades. Finally, he takes off his pilot's helmet and puts on the dead soldier's headpiece.

Faw hesitates for a second after getting suited up. He takes a deep breath, drawing the smoky, acrid air of the battlefield into his lungs and pushing his gut out. He takes a look at the mutilated soldier pinned to the wall, and exhales slowly. He then speaks.

"Alright." He stops for a second and picks up the rifle. "Let's go."

: A word of warning. Don't ever fire that thing on full-auto unless there's a tin man less than 10 meters away. Got it? Good.

With that out of the way, he begins barking orders to his subordinates.
: Alright men, Blom and Hamar are gonna make sure nobody comes after us while we head downstairs. Get that grenade launcher loaded with AP in case we encounter any surprise-

He doesn't get to finish his sentence. A glowing jet of metal punches through the wall and then through MCPO Anar's midsection, leaving him with an exit wound the size of a basketball through which his guts are all too happy to jump out of. He doesn't even react, just tips over and lands flat on his face with all the grace of a falling tree. The commando in the doorway watches this unfold, then springs into action.
: forget that!

All the other Aesthian soldiers run for the tunnel access at the back of the room.

Faw dusts himself off before drawing his pistol out of it's holster and brandishing it like a prized watch.

"Yeah, I guess."

The man, who you now see has a nametag simply reading "ANAR", looks at the gun and tilts his head. He then is overcome by a fit of raucous laughter.
: Bogi!
: Sir?
: Give him Reior's kit. He won't be needing it.

The wounded commando gathers the dead one's stuff and brings it to Faw.
Faw receives:

Three more rounds snap past you, one coming dangerously close to your head, before you reach the relative safety of the building the commandos are residing in. The one standing by the door gives you a congratulatory thump on the back while the one crouching returns fire on the infantry outside.
: Ha-ha! Nice moves out there! Hope you didn't come us for a rescue though!

Up this close you notice the patch on the man's shoulder. An artist's interpretation of a member of the Faceless Horde charges forward brandishing a halberd, bordered by the text "I'M ALREADY HOME" along the top and "DEATH IS JUST A FORMALITY" on the bottom. Looking around the interior of the building, you see a motionless, bullet-riddled suit of power armor pinning one of the other commandos to the wall by the waist via its hydraulic claw, its victim's lower half sitting on the floor beneath it. The bodies of several of the buildings' staff still lay in their seats, obviously taken by surprise during the breach. In the back of the room, a third commando covers a doorway leading underground, and the fourth is currently seeing to the fifth's wounds.
: So, you armed?

Walter speeds up and begins to disengage from the area.
"Mjolnir 1-5, withdrawing from operation." 

"stuff, I thought I wouldn't make it out of there. Everyone, let's pull out."
Bell starts making a beeline for the carrier group in her incredibly crippled plane.

Jaakko's heart jumps as Bell exits the gun through a fireball. He is immediately worried that her aircraft will not make it out of the combat zone, but it seems to handle alright for now.
"Let's go, let's go," he repeats anxiously.

"Snowman, egressing," Lorens calls out. He intercepts the course leading to the carrier and increases power for maximum dry thrust.

Tippy seeing the odds are far too much against them, continues course to retreat, but not without bashing a hard metal surface with her fist several times and leaving her comms open for everyone to hear.
"forget! forget! forget! Damn it all to hell and forget me for listening to you bastards! This mission is horsestuff and my boot will go up *transmission garbled* that you won't be able to walk for a week!"

The Imperial planes pursue Mjolnir out to sea, slowly but surely closing the distance. Before they close to weapons range against the slowest planes in the unit however, the surviving two Starvipers dive on the enemy formation and strafe the lead plane, leading half of the enemy unit on a wild goose chase into the upper atmosphere and causing the remaining planes to pursue less aggressively until they finally turn back.

Faw continues to dart towards the building, occasionally moving erratically to throw off the enemy's aim.

One round whips past your head with a loud crack while two more kick up dirt in front of you. You draw nearer to the building and see one of the Aesthian commandos crouched in the doorway observing your approach. He turns to one of his comrades inside the building and gestures in your direction as if to say "are you seeing this stuff", and another helmeted head peeks out the door to watch your mad dash.

Everything, even the dumbfired heatseeker, hits the fragile machinery at the top, though the beam laser was of dubious effectiveness. Those viewing from outside witness a thin red beam shooting straight up, followed by a series of minor explosions capped off by one final detonation that sends bits and pieces of the tower's internals sky high. Bell's plane emerges from the fire, crippled and barely flyable but intact, ascending towards the clear skies directly above Palisade's tower and backlit by the shafts of light shining through the gap in the clouds.
: No loving way.
: Did she do it? Did she make it out?
: Hell yeah she did!

Enemy reinforcements will be in missile range in Two turns.

Faw unbuckles himself from the pilot's harness and starts to trek towards the building, observing his surroundings as he crouches and crawls towards the structure. He clicks on the comms.

"I appreciate the offer, Tippy, but don't risk it. You've got one in your co-pilot seat, and we've almost finished this fight. Just get yourself home in one piece."

Over the gunfire being exchanged between the Gothic infantry outside and the jet engines, you hear a sign that you've been spotted crawling across open ground.
: [Hey you! Stop right where you are!]
